Chapter 46 Backyard

In that moment of silence, everyone heard Su Manao crying.

Everyone looked toward the storage room.

Only Su Dazhi turned a deaf ear, focusing intently on wiping his pot in the kitchen.

As for Su Jin, who never gets involved in family disputes, he was lying on his bed in the east wing, listening to the commotion outside as if watching a play.

Su Ruyi went straight to the storage room, and Su Tong followed.

Su Manao had already thrown Su Ruyi's bedding on the ground and was struggling to make her own bedding.

She was laying the cloth while crying.

"What are you doing?" Su Ruyi shouted sternly.

“Dad made me move in.” Su Manao wiped away her tears, not intimidated by Su Ruyi at all. “If you have any objections, go talk to Dad.”

Seeing that she seemed to have forgotten what it felt like to have her face run over by a truck, Su Ruyi raised her hand to slap her.

Only then did she notice that Su Manao's right cheek was swollen and raised by at least two fingers above the left cheek.

Without hesitation, she raised her hand and ran over the left side of her face four times like a truck.

She likes symmetrical things.

Su Manao's face instantly became symmetrical, but she was also knocked unconscious on the spot.

Su Ruyi started throwing her things out.

Yes, throw it out.

They threw the items out of the yard one by one.

Seeing that even the most honest sixth sister was starting to cause trouble, Su Dazhi suddenly felt emboldened: "Sixth sister, what are you doing?"

“My room is small, it can’t fit two people,” Su Ruyi replied coldly.

"Then you can go live with the eldest daughter!" Su Dazhi immediately gave her the order.

"No one is allowed in my room! If anyone comes, I'll kill them!" Su Zhenzhu roared from the west wing.

“I’ll stay in my own room, I’m not going anywhere. As for Su Manao, let her go wherever she wants, it’s none of my business.” After saying that, Su Ruyi picked up Su Manao’s box with one hand and threw it on the ground.

The incredibly sturdy wooden box shattered as easily as an eggshell.

Everyone was stunned by what was inside—hair ties, floral fabric, ready-made clothes, buttons, socks…it was like a small supply and marketing cooperative counter!

Before anyone could get a good look, another box was thrown out, and it shattered like an eggshell.

Inside were iron basins, leather shoes, cloth shoes, plastic sandals... and even dozens of handkerchiefs.

These things were all "found" by Su Manao from the entrance of the supply and marketing cooperative and other secret treasure spots around the time he was a child.

Handkerchiefs are the easiest things to find. They're small and don't take up much space.

She gave most of these things to Guan Yumei, and the box contained only the small portion that she had saved.

She even found several watches.

She was too young then to know the value of the watch, and Guan Yumei tricked her into giving it away.

That's why her relationship with Guan Yumei was so unbreakable, and that's how she got these two big boxes.

Guan Yumei used the items that Su Manao had found to make a lot of money, which she mostly gave to her third brother's family.

While Su Ruyi was throwing things away, Su Dazhi's braised pork had already sizzled into the pot.

That evening, the aroma of braised pork and Su Ruyi's act of throwing things created a strange connection in the minds of everyone in the Su family.

Many years later, every time Su Tong ate braised pork, he would still want to throw the plate away.

Su Ruyi threw away everything Su Manao had brought, then vigorously shook her bedsheets in the yard before making the bed again.

Then she locked the door from the inside.

Seeing this, Su Tong felt relieved and returned to the east wing, where he lay down on the bed.

Su Jin, who was lying on the bed with his legs crossed, asked, "Where did you go?"

Su Tong said, "I went to the state-run restaurant for dinner."

Su Jin's stomach suddenly growled: "Why didn't you wake me?"

Su Tong asked curiously, "Aren't you waiting to eat braised pork?"

Su Jin sighed, "Dad boiled the pot for three hours! By the way, what did you eat at the state-run restaurant?"

Su Tong: "Braised pork."

Su Jin rolled over, facing the wall, and stopped talking.

In the courtyard, only Guan Yumei and Su Yin remained, staring at each other.

Su Yin's eyes held a deep sorrow—exactly the same as Su Dazhi's.

However, Guan Yumei couldn't understand that look. She said, "Third brother, it's good that you're home. From now on, you must study hard."

"What about my rural allowance?" Su Yin asked.

"I really didn't sign you up for the rural service program!" Guan Yumei hurriedly explained. "I'm truly innocent! Third son, when have I ever lied to you?"

"It's her! Officer Zheng said it himself! She asked Su Tong to accompany her to register us!" Su Jin shouted from the east wing.

He never expected that just one sentence would make Su Yin resent Su Tong, planting a huge time bomb for Su Tong's future.

Su Yin also turned around and went back to the east wing, glared at Su Tong, and then climbed up to his upper bunk.

Each of the three was preoccupied with their own thoughts and remained silent.

Guan Yumei stood in the yard for a while before coming to the storage room. She pushed open the door and leaned on the doorframe, saying, "You jinx, get yourself ready tomorrow and come with me to your third uncle's house!"

Su Ruyi didn't even glance at her.

"You jinx, are you deaf too?" Seeing that Su Ruyi, who was the easiest to manipulate, completely ignored her, Guan Yumei's anger flared up again.

Su Ruyi got up and closed the door.

If Guan Yumei hadn't dodged quickly, her nose would have been flattened.

She flew into a rage and kicked open the door to the storage room.

Su Ruyi's face was icy: "Can't you even tolerate me staying at home for another seven or eight days?"
