The fat woman smiled:
"This thumb ring..."
It must have been given to you by your closest relative!
But what's inside...
But it's the merit of an entire lifetime!
Incredible!
That's absolutely incredible!
"What? My thumb ring also contains merit? But...aren't merits supposed to be golden? Why haven't I seen any golden light in my thumb ring?" Su Ruyi asked, puzzled.
"Who told you that merit is golden light? It's just that in this mundane world, ordinary people find golden light dazzling and won't look directly at it. So, merit is what golden light looks like. But you don't have much merit left in this ring." The fat woman said irritably.
"Why?" Su Ruyi asked in surprise.
"That's all the fault of the living soul you imprisoned! That thing has almost devoured all your merits!"
The fat woman shrugged as she spoke, looking somewhat gloating.
"What? That white mist is my merit?" Su Ruyi gasped.
The fat woman's eyes remained fixed on Su Ruyi's pocket, but it seemed as if she could see far beyond it: "Yes. That white mist is a complete accumulation of merit. If I'm not mistaken, it should be the accumulation of an entire lifetime—I guess you must have been a great philanthropist in that lifetime, very good."
"Huh? Then... what should I do now?"
Su Ruyi remembered clearly that Xiao Yao had told her that she had to bring with her double the merit accumulated from her previous five lives and this life in order to return to her original world and change the tragic facts that had already happened!
But now, all the merits of a lifetime are about to be devoured by Su Yin's soul!
Su Ruyi looked at the fat woman and bowed deeply: "Master, please save me."
"The soul inside has quite a connection with you!" The fat woman stared at Su Ruyi's pocket with great interest. "Let me see... Oh, I see! In your previous life, you saved his life twice... In this life, why not let him repay you with double the merit?"
"He's already dead, how can he repay me double the public good?"
"The spirit in your ring is no ordinary being. This fellow originally possessed great fortune, but he committed too many evils, exhausting his luck. By the way, you're a doctor, right? Then accumulating merit will be very simple for you..."
After the fat woman finished speaking, Su Ruyi suddenly understood.
But then he blurted out, "I understand! I get it! But, Master, how can I make the living soul inside obey me?"
"He can listen to you now. He has benefited from your good deeds. You are like Tang Sanzang, and he is like Sun Wukong. You already have the golden headband in your hands!"
"But I can only see him in my dreams, I can't even see him when I'm awake! How could I possibly chant the Tightening-Headband Mantra on him? Besides, I don't even know how to chant that mantra!"
"If your heart is moved, your intention will follow! Be moved, be moved! Give it a try!" the fat woman urged again.
Su Ruyi closed her eyes tightly, silently chanting in her heart, "I want to see Su Yin! I want to see Su Yin! Su Yin, get over here!"
In an instant, she found herself in a strange place. There was neither sky nor earth; she was standing on empty air, and in the distance, there were some cloud-like things.
Su Ruyi wanted to see more clearly, and then she saw the cloud suddenly magnify in front of her, and she understood—it was a cloud of white mist!
At the very center of the white mist was Su Yin's living soul!
He was still greedily devouring the white mist!
At this rate, it will probably swallow up all the white mist in a few more minutes!
Su Ruyi opened her eyes and continued to meditate silently—sure enough, she could still "see" Su Yin frantically devouring the white mist in that boundless ring space.
The fat woman's voice echoed in Su Ruyi's mind again—"Heartbeat arrives!"
Su Ruyi muttered to herself, "I'm going to give Su Yin a headache."
The thought had barely crossed his mind when he saw Su Yin clutching her head and collapsing to the ground, crying out, "Ouch! It hurts! It hurts so much!"
His cries were shrill, and his expression was one of great pain.
Su Ruyi closed her eyes, and in the next instant she was in front of Su Yin: "Su Yin, are you full?"
Su Yin's eyes were unfocused, and it took her a while to focus on Su Ruyi's face.
A slightly silly smile spread across his face: "Delicious, really delicious. You jinx, don't try to take these from me, they're all mine."
"Su Yin, what are you eating? It tastes so good!"
Su Yin scratched her head: "I don't know. They're delicious, I'm going to eat them all!"
After saying that, he opened his mouth again, wanting to continue eating.
With a thought from Su Ruyi, Su Yin was lifted up as if by an invisible hand and floated into the air.
He struggled with his limbs, but he knew it was Su Ruyi who did it, so he said anxiously, "You jinx, what are you doing? Put me down, I haven't eaten yet."
"Su Yin, now that you've eaten my food, you'll have to do my bidding from now on." Su Ruyi put Su Yin down, and Su Yin collapsed to the ground, cupped the last few cloud-like merits in her hands, and quickly swallowed them all.
Then, he lay sprawled on the ground, a blissful smile on his face: "Is this delicious food yours? Don't try to fool me. You're just a pathetic little thing, where would you get such good stuff? Even if you're a bit strange and manage to kill me by sheer luck, I won't accept it!"
Seeing his disbelief, Su Ru said, "Fine, then I'll let you suffer for a while. Think it over before you talk to me properly." As she spoke, Su Yin started rolling on the ground again, clutching his head, yelling, "My head hurts so much! It hurts so much!!!"
As he spoke, he rolled toward Su Ruyi: "Did you really make me hurt? Then try making me hurt somewhere else!"
Su Ruyi asked, "Where do you want it to hurt?"
“Try this foot!” Su Yin pointed to his left foot.
So, Su Ruyi glanced at his left foot.
"Ah! My foot is broken! Stop! Stop it now!" Su Yin immediately clutched her left foot and cried out in pain.
"Are you convinced now?!" Su Ruyi asked.
"I refuse to accept this!" Su Yin shouted.
"Oh, then you'll just have to endure the pain," Su Ruyi said indifferently.
Su Yin suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head and feet, and for a moment she couldn't tell where the pain was worse.
Logically speaking, this level of pain should be enough to make someone faint.
However, Su Yin was perfectly lucid and could not afford to faint.
Su Ruyi looked at his pained expression for a while, then silently said, "I want to go out."
The illusion vanished instantly, revealing the plump woman sitting in the chair in front of her, sizing her up with a cheerful expression: "How is it, Dr. Su? Are you tempted yet?"
Su Ruyi bowed to her and said, "I understand. Thank you for your guidance, Master."
