Chapter 69 Opportunity

No one has ever asked the cafeteria lady this question.

The older woman was taken aback. Looking at Su Manao's smiling face, she hesitated for a moment before nodding: "It's possible, but nobody serves food like that... Don't you want to try more varieties?"

Su Manao had already seen it clearly on tiptoe: there were four dishes in the cafeteria for lunch today: braised pork with potatoes, stir-fried carrots and green radishes, stir-fried fatty pork slices with chili peppers, and stir-fried bean sprouts with vermicelli.

She pointed to the braised pork and said crisply, "No! I want all three dishes! Thank you, Auntie! I want braised pork in all three!"

So the older woman could only shake her head and start preparing the braised pork for her.

One spoonful, two spoonfuls, three spoonfuls...

Every time the older woman tried to stop eating, Su Manao would shake her head vigorously, her eyes filled with tears.

If Teacher Lin hadn't stopped her, Su Manao believed she could have gotten the cafeteria lady to fill the lunchbox to overflowing.

Su Manao carefully held the lunchbox, her face beaming with joy.

Because her lunchbox was full, she could only scoop the rice onto the lid.

Teacher Lin followed behind, carrying the lid of Su Manao's lunchbox and sighing.

The two found a table and sat down.

Su Manao ate the entire large box of rice and a box full of braised pork with potatoes, leaving nothing behind.

Teacher Lin looked at her with a bit of fear: "Su Manao, how long has it been since you last ate?"

Su Manao did the math carefully and replied, "It's been about eight or nine days since I've had a proper meal!"

Teacher Lin sighed again: "So... are you full?"

Su Manao patted her stomach and let out a long burp: "I'm about 80% full!"

Teacher Lin was so frightened that she quickly pulled her away, saying, "You can't eat anymore!"

Su Manao pointed to her feet and shouted, "Teacher Lin, you dropped your money!"

His shout drew the attention of everyone in the cafeteria.

Teacher Lin looked down and saw a large ten-yuan note on the ground.

She bent down in confusion and picked up the money.

A half-new, half-old 100-yuan note, full of creases.

Teacher Lin was a little suspicious—she clearly remembered that she only had 50 cents on her, so this ten-yuan note must have been lost by someone else, right?

She moved her lips, about to ask who had lost the money, when Su Manao exclaimed loudly, "Teacher Lin, what's wrong? I saw this money fall out of your pocket when you just stood up!"

Teacher Lin pursed her lips.

Ten yuan is equivalent to three days' wages for her.

With these ten yuan, she could send a round number of one hundred yuan to her daughter who had married far away.

Moreover, Su Manao's statement confirmed that the money belonged to her.

She waited silently for a few more seconds, and when no one came to claim the ten yuan, she put the money back in her pocket.

Seeing that Teacher Lin had taken the money, Su Manao quickly lowered her head to hide the smug look in her eyes.

Although ten yuan was lost, Teacher Lin will now be labeled a thief!

After finishing her meal, Su Manao said she was going to walk off her food and left the school.

She needed to find a safe place to hide her remaining 160 yuan and the pile of tickets.

She knew that tickets were more valuable than money; Su Yin had mentioned it several times before, but she hadn't taken it to heart.

Therefore, she didn't know which tickets were valuable.

Keep the ticket for now; 160 yuan should be enough for me to live on for a while.

But where is it hidden?

After much thought, she concluded that the Su family's courtyard was definitely out of the question. The money she had hidden on the roof beam had inexplicably turned into yellow paper—it was too strange.

We need to find a place far away from the Su family's courtyard.

It's not feasible in Haicheng City; you have to go to the suburbs.

With that in mind, she walked towards the suburbs.

Upon arriving at the grove where Su Ruyi had once hidden the lunchbox, Su Manao's eyes lit up.

Up in the tree!

She can climb trees, a skill that every child in the Su family possesses, because there used to be a very thick jujube tree in the Su family's courtyard that would bear many red dates every year.

When we were kids, every year before the dates were fully ripe, as soon as they turned a little red, the children of the Su family would all swarm up the tree, find a branch to sit on, pick them, and stuff them into their mouths—this was one of the few snacks we could eat to our hearts' content when we were kids.

However, Su Xueshu later took a liking to this tree and forced Su Dazhi to cut it down and make it into a cabinet, which was placed in the old house in Su Family Village.

Therefore, all the children in the Su family are skilled tree climbers.

Su Manao walked into the woods and climbed a tall tree.

Fortunately, she found a narrow crack in a tree branch, created by lightning, which was perfect for hiding things.

She stuffed the sixteen ten-yuan bills and the stack of receipts from her handbag into the bag.

Afraid of getting wet in the rain, she covered it with her handkerchief.

Then, she carefully climbed down.

After looking up for a while and feeling quite confident, he left.

Ten minutes after she left, Su Ruyi peeked out from behind a tree.

Early this morning, Su Ruyi finished studying a medical book, saw ten patients, and then went to the acupuncture room to wait for the old man to come.

Sure enough, the old man knocked on the door almost immediately.

After the acupuncture treatment, the old man, as usual, gave Su Ruyi a small wooden box: "Dr. Su, this is the consultation fee, please accept it."

Su Ruyi opened the box; inside was another note.

She unfolded the note, which read: "Your opportunity lies in the woods on the outskirts of the city. Remember, you must go there around 2 PM."

She mentally translated the note, and it seemed to mean something like, "Your opportunity lies in that grove of trees on the outskirts of the city. Remember, go there around 2 p.m.
