Gao Lin and Chen Qin arrived at the Women's Federation office shortly afterward.
Upon seeing that it was Chen Qin, the staff of the Women's Federation immediately went up to her: "Are you here to pay the fine? Today is the last day."
"I...I..." Chen Qin was embarrassed to say that she hadn't asked her family for money.
Being kicked by Old Lady Li in front of everyone that day was already humiliating enough. If they found out that I couldn't even ask my family for money, that would be even more shameful.
Fortunately, Gao Lin took over the conversation: "We're here to see your director."
As she spoke, she took off her hat and scarf, which had been wrapped up tightly, and the staff of the Women's Federation realized that it was Sister Lin. They turned around and went to call Director Jiang for her.
Director Jiang and Gao Lin were old acquaintances, childhood best friends from the same village. However, they had argued several times because of Gao Lin's past superstitious beliefs, and gradually lost contact. But since Gao Lin married the brigade leader, she has been influenced by his teachings and corrected many of her bad habits, and the two have become friends again in the last two years.
"Oh, what brings you here?" Director Jiang was surprised to run into her old friend during the Women's Federation's working hours. Gao Lin used to hate coming to these kinds of places.
Gao Lin didn't bother with pleasantries and bluntly said, "I've been scammed! I was fooled by that 'birth essence' stuff that the village was promoting. What rubbish about birth essence! It's a complete scourge! My poor child was miscarried because of this stuff!"
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes again as she thought of the children who had left her.
Seeing this, Director Jiang reached out and wiped away Gao Lin's tears. Although her eyes showed pity, her words were entirely a reprimand: "I told you long ago, you can't believe in feudal superstitions! Look what's happened, you lost your child and damaged your health, you'll have to suffer all this in your old age!"
"Alright, stop crying. If you keep crying, you'll develop health problems and suffer even more when you're old!"
Upon hearing this, Gao Lin took a deep breath and barely managed to stop, sobbing as she said, "I promise I'll change, but you have to catch the murderer today!"
"What murderer?" Director Jiang pointed to Chen Qin, who was standing next to Gao Lin: "Look, aren't all the murderers right here?"
"It wasn't her. She's just taking the blame for the real murderer. The real murderer is Qi Qi!"
Upon hearing Gao Lin's words, Chen Qin quickly chimed in, "Sister Lin is right, the murderer is my sister-in-law. She said she'd give me 50 yuan a month if I helped her publicize this!"
Ever since she learned that Qi Ran was unreliable, all she could think about was how to get rid of her connection to the matter. She spilled everything and told me everything: "She also told me that she's not satisfied with just promoting placental vegetarianism in Cui Shui Village. She wants to go to nearby villages and then to the city, so that everyone will think that placental vegetarianism is a good thing!"
Upon hearing these words, Director Jiang and the staff of the Women's Federation frowned even more deeply, and they couldn't help but blurt out the same question: "What benefit does Qi Ran gain from doing this?"
They were unaware of Qi Ran's system's existence, and naturally assumed that no one would do something so thankless and exhausting.
Chen Qin also calmed down and thought about Qi Ran's behavior. If she advocated vegetarianism, she had secretly cooked extra food for the whole family on vegetarian days, so there was no real benefit to it at all.
But would Qi Ran really do something without any real benefit?
Finally, Gao Lin looked at the group of people who were deep in thought and said quietly, "Qi Ran is a heartless person, she does everything to harm others! You should all bring her here and teach her a good lesson!"
"Alright, let's go to the village and find Qi Qi first." Director Jiang was skeptical of Gao Lin and Chen Qin's words. After all, what others said might be subjective, and only evidence obtained through personal investigation would be the most accurate.
"As for you, you can stay here for now. You're in postpartum confinement, so don't run around with us." Jiang
The director told Gao Lin, and then took two staff members and Chen Qin to Cuishui Village.
The group arrived at the Lu family's house only to find it empty-handed; no one was there. They circled the village extensively, but still couldn't spot Qi Qi. Finally, they reached the entrance of Shen Qianqian's shop, where Shen Qianqian said, "You mean your sister-in-law? It seems she went back to her parents' home today."
"Why didn't you say so sooner?" Chen Qin had gone around in circles and got nothing, so she vented her resentment on Shen Qianqian.
Shen Qianqian felt confused and shrugged, saying, "You didn't ask me beforehand."
Actually, Shen Qianqian didn't know where Qi Ran had gone at first either. It was when she was chatting with customers at her small shop that a customer casually mentioned, "Your sister-in-law seems to have gone back to her parents' house again."
"Let's hope nothing else goes wrong later."
Shen Qianqian could only smile awkwardly. It seemed that Qi Ran's antics were well-known throughout the village.
Upon learning this, Director Jiang led them quickly to the village where the Qi family lived, accompanied by Shen Qianqian.
She deliberately closed her small shop to keep up with them. How could she miss such a good show—Qi Ran was going to be investigated, even fined and re-educated?
At this moment, Qi Ran had no idea that a large group of them had arrived in the village and were sitting at the village entrance chatting casually.
"You guys don't know about 'birth essence', do you?"
"What is this?" Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment.
