"Apologize? What's there to apologize for!" Ding Fei thought Ding Hai had completely lost his mind today.
What a blunder! He's so afraid of a mere sales clerk. If it were before, that sales clerk would have been thoroughly subdued long ago.
"Brother, your behavior today is completely unlike you. When did you become so compassionate?" Ding Fei still couldn't see the situation clearly and provoked Ding Hai from behind.
"Shut up!" Ding Hai warned Ding Fei in a low voice. This was the first time he had been harsh with Ding Fei in many years, but it wasn't his intention; he was forced to do so.
But Ding Fei suddenly became dramatic. She had rarely been scolded by her family growing up, but now, her brother was telling her to shut up for the sake of a mere sales clerk.
How could she stand being treated like this?
"Since that's the case, then go play with this sales clerk!" Ding Fei stomped her foot angrily.
She turned around, got into the car, and drove off, leaving Ding Hai alone at the Zhang family home.
Ding Hai watched the car gradually disappear from sight, finally letting out a sigh of relief. He'd finally seen this little troublemaker off; now he could finally have a proper business talk with President Zhang.
"Mr. Zhang, you've seen it too. I..." Ding Hai turned around confidently. But he found that everyone in front of him had already gone into the house, and he was the only one left outside.
"Zhang Zhan!" Ding Hai roared inwardly. His hand, hanging by his side, clenched so tightly that the veins bulged.
He had never encountered such treatment before, but he dared not vent his displeasure directly. He could only suppress his anger and sit on a stone bench in the courtyard to wait.
Inside the Zhang family's house.
Zhang Zhan changed his attitude from when he was facing Ding Hai, and put on a gentle smile, "Weiwei, you've made us worry so much all these years."
He has always been a doting brother to his sister, and he has worried about her a lot over the years since she ran away from home. Now that he sees her coming home again, he is filled with emotion and joy.
Zhang Wei excitedly shared everything that had happened over the past twenty years with her dearest family members. Only after they had finished talking did Gao Yalan slowly speak.
"Xiao Zhan, where's Wang Fang?" Gao Yalan asked. "Your sister finally came home, but we haven't seen a single soul. What's going on?"
She called Zhang Zhan last night to tell him she was bringing Zhang Wei and the others to his house today. They had originally planned to ask about the undeliverable letters Weiwei had sent years ago, but now they couldn't even find Wang Fang.
"Mom, Xiaofang had something to do today, that's why she's not home," Zhang Zhan explained. He didn't understand why Gao Yalan's expression turned sour when she mentioned the name "Wang Fang" today.
Normally, Gao Yalan doesn't seem to have such hostility towards this daughter-in-law.
"What could be more important than your sister returning home after more than twenty years?" Gao Ya
Lan retorted, her tone commanding, "Make him go home right now! Otherwise, you'll be kicked out of the Zhang family just like her!"
Zhang Zhan always listened to his mother very much. When he heard his mother give him a strict order, he couldn't continue chatting with his sister and immediately called Wang Fang.
He made the call, and Wang Fang was back home in less than twenty minutes.
Before entering the room, Wang Fang still had a disdainful look on her face, but as soon as she pushed the door open, she immediately put on an innocent and harmless expression.
"Ah Zhan, why did you call me back in such a hurry? Is something the matter?"
Gao Yalan didn't even give her a glance. "Tell me, why haven't we received a single letter that Weiwei sent to our home before?"
Wang Fang gently covered her mouth and said in surprise, "Is that so? Weiwei has been sending letters home all these years since she left. I thought she had long forgotten about our family because of some poor boy."
Her words were clearly meant to ignite Gao Yalan's anger.
"What do you mean? Are you implying something about Weiwei, both openly and indirectly?" Gao Yalan slammed her hand on the table in anger, and the whole family barely dared to breathe. "Since you can't remember sending any letters home, surely you remember the letters I asked you to send out?"
In fact, on the eve of his passing, Mr. Zhang kept murmuring Zhang Wei's name. He felt guilty towards his youngest daughter and missed her dearly.
Gao Yalan specially wrote a letter and asked Wang Fang to deliver it to Zhang Wei at the post office so she could mail it herself. But in the end, before the old man passed away, they not only never saw Zhang Wei again, but they didn't even receive a reply.
At first, they genuinely believed that Zhang Wei held a grudge against him because of what happened back then.
To this day, we have never considered that the problem lies with the letters.
Wang Fang still looked confused. "Mom, I don't know what you mean, but you know that when I went to the post office to mail a letter, you sent someone to watch me mail it."
“We’ll see.” Wang Fang’s eyes suddenly dimmed. “Before I married into the Zhang family, I was already all alone in this world, without any relatives or friends. After marrying into the Zhang family, I devoted myself wholeheartedly to being Zhan’s virtuous wife.”
"Even if I wanted to stop the letter from being sent, I wouldn't have the ability."
The helplessness and despair in Wang Fang's eyes seemed genuine. Her eyes even reddened as she said, "I know that over the years, Mom, you've held a grudge against me because of Weiwei leaving home, but you can't just pin baseless accusations on me."
After she finished speaking, she wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. She looked exactly like someone who had been bullied.
Gao Yalan wanted to say something more, but Zhang Zhan stopped her.
