Chapter 20 The Shen Family

"How could that be? You haven't even read any books, how could you possibly go to school!" Do you think reading a few books is enough?

Yu Linyun's outburst came out of nowhere, startling everyone else at the dinner table.

Grandma Fang glared at her granddaughter unhappily: "What are you trying to do, all of this so easily?"

Yu Linyun became somewhat frightened and restrained herself, secretly glaring at Shen Qianqian opposite her, only to find that the other party didn't even look at her.

This made her even angrier.

She took a chopstick and forcefully scooped up a piece of rice from the bowl. There was a piece of meat that she had secretly buried at the bottom of the bowl. Seeing this piece of meat, Yu Linyun felt that it didn't taste so good anymore.

Ever since Shen Qianqian hit her head, everyone in her family has changed, especially her grandparents, who have changed the most!

Before my older brother was home, they were lucky if they ate meat once every three days, but now they eat meat every day, and Shen Qianqian eats the most! Even Grandma, who is so stingy, has never said a word to her.

And now, I don't know what's wrong with Shen Qianqian. She doesn't do any work in the fields, and she doesn't do any work at home either. She has to do all the work. She studies hard during the day, and when she comes back in the afternoon, she still has to work diligently. She's even more tired than an old ox in the fields!

And this job used to be done by Chen Qianqian, so how did it suddenly become hers?

Yu Linyun is a sensitive person. She noticed that her status in the family was declining, while Shen Qianqian was steadily rising, and even dared to provoke her aunt and older brother.

She had overheard their argument before. Grandma bought new tables and chairs for her older brother because Shen Qianqian had taken the tables and chairs from her brother's room to her place.

She had seen that table before; it was so beautiful, covered with scraps of cloth and topped with a whole piece of glass.

Li dreamt that the table belonged to her.

In this family, she always knew that girls were at the bottom of the food chain. Her eldest sister was, and so was she. Her eldest sister got into university but couldn't go, and she probably wouldn't be able to go either if she got into university in the future. The opportunity to go to university could only be given to her eldest brother or her younger brother.

Yu Linyun had always accepted this fact, after all, other families were like this, so it wasn't surprising that their Yu family was like this. But now, there was this oddball, Shen Qianqian. She was like an energetic monkey, making everyone run around in circles while climbing up to the top of the tree branch, and in the end, she even made it to the top, leaving those below unable to catch up with her.

Yu Linyun was furious. How could Shen Qianqian, a child even her parents abandoned, be living such a good life now? And even be able to go to school?!

That's so unfair.

After dinner, Wan Yindi asked Yu Linyun to wash the dishes, but Yu Linyun coldly replied, "Why should I wash the dishes? Doesn't my brother need to?"

Wan Yindi glanced at her, puzzled, and said matter-of-factly, "Your brother wants to go read a book. What's wrong with washing these few bowls..."

Yu Linyun placed the stacked bowls and chopsticks heavily on the table.

"We were born of the same mother and went to the same school. Does he need to study, but I don't? I'm not washing anymore, you wash yourself."

After saying that, he ran straight back to his room.

Seeing Yu Linyang sitting at the small table on the bed reading a book, I clenched my fist and walked over, tapping the small table twice.

"Hey, Mom wants you to wash the dishes."

Yu Linyang wasn't angry at being disturbed. He scratched his head, said "Oh," and put on his shoes to go to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Shen Qianqian didn't have a car, so she went to school with her siblings Yu Linyun and Yu Linyang. They walked for a week straight, but Shen Qianqian didn't feel any discomfort. The original owner of this body used to do a lot of work, so her physical fitness had improved, and this distance was no problem for her at all.

But Shen Qianqian couldn't bear the thought of walking to school while Yu Linsen rode his bike, which should have been hers, so carefree.

The capital city, a military compound.

Wu Yunhua returned from grocery shopping. As she walked to the gate of the courtyard, the young gatekeeper waved to her. She led her daughter over and smiled, "What, is it in our bag?" The young man flashed a bright white smile and pulled out a flat piece of mail.

"Teacher Wu, this was delivered yesterday afternoon. It's for Minister Shen. Please take it back for him."

Wu Yunhua took it and glanced at it. There was an address that was both unfamiliar and familiar: "Wuxing Production Brigade, Nanxian County..."

She remembered that her husband's child with his ex-wife was being fostered in their hometown in Nanxian County. This was the first time the child had sent a letter. The last time the child called, she told her mother-in-law and husband that very night. She didn't know if her husband had called back.

Shen Jia was getting married for the second time, while she was getting married for the first time. She knew from the beginning that her husband had a child with his ex-wife. Before the marriage, her mother-in-law was very warm towards her, probably because she misunderstood that she disliked Shen Jia's daughter who was raised in his hometown. So she told her that she would never let that child live with them.

Actually, she didn't dislike or resent the child. She was a teacher, engaged in the work of educating and nurturing people, and had a natural fondness for children. However, she was also a woman, and she felt happy that her in-laws treated her so well.

Her family all said that being able to marry such a young and capable cadre leader as Shen Jia was a blessing she had accumulated over several lifetimes.

Now, ten years later, after giving birth to her daughter Miaomiao, she feels especially guilty about her initial thoughts. A little girl, with no parents by her side, living under the roof of others, must have a hard life.

She also suggested bringing her stepdaughter to live in the capital, where the learning environment is better.

As soon as she spoke, her mother-in-law glared at her and said that her stepdaughter was probably used to the lifestyle in her hometown and that changing the environment was not good for a child.

So she dared not argue anymore.

Since the birth of her daughter, her mother-in-law made her quit her job and become a full-time housewife. All of the Shen family's expenses depended on Shen Jia's salary.

Most of the time, her words have no effect.

Wu Yunhua took the package back and saw her mother-in-law at home. She immediately became tense and put the package on the cabinet.

Grandma Lin looked over, her neat silver hair remaining perfectly in place.

"Why are you so late? Aja is coming home for dinner today, why didn't you hurry up and go buy groceries? You're always so slow and dawdling, you can't even learn how to serve a man."

Wu Yunhua dared not speak, letting the old woman on the sofa lecture her. Sensing that her daughter was a little scared, she quickly gripped her hand tightly.

Fortunately, Old Mrs. Lin probably had something to do. After saying a few words, she prepared to leave home and didn't focus her "energy" on her daughter-in-law. As she passed the entrance hall, the first thing Old Mrs. Lin saw was the bag on the cabinet. Her droopy eyelids tightened, she picked up the package, glanced at the address on it, and immediately opened it.

Wu Yunhua swallowed hard.

Grandma Lin opened the package and found only one letter inside. It was quite thick. She tore it open directly.

Wu Yunhua: ".....Mom, this is what Qianqian sent to Ajia."

Old Mrs. Lin's expression changed: "What are you trying to remind me of? This letter was written by my granddaughter to my son. Can't I read it? Is it any of your business?!"
