Chapter 42 No Food Allowed

Wu Yunhua was busy in the kitchen.

He was quite surprised to see his two daughters return.

"Why don't you stay out a little longer? The food isn't ready yet."

Shen Qianqian put Shen Miaomiao on the sofa, brought her a comic book to look at, and then went to the kitchen to help Wu Yunhua pick vegetables.

“We just went to play in the sand pile in the square, and a little kid snatched Miaomiao’s snacks. His grandma even tried to blame him, and I had a big fight with her. We lost all our fun and just came back.”

Upon hearing this, Wu Yunhua quickly glanced at her daughter on the sofa. Seeing that her daughter was calm and engrossed in her book, not looking like she had been hurt, she felt relieved and asked Shen Qianqian what had happened.

Shen Qianqian recounted everything in detail, full of curiosity: "Everyone else in the compound is very nice, but that old lady is unreasonable and unforgiving. Where did she come from?"

This old lady Yang is even more bizarre than old lady Fang. She treats extortion as a business, and she specifically targets children.

She recalled that quite a few people echoed her sentiments at the time, which shows that she was very unpopular.

Logically speaking, this place is full of cadres' families. Even if not all of them are literate, given the limited conditions in the past, they should at least understand some basic principles!

Good heavens, she acted like a shrew.

Wu Yunhua sighed: "Don't pay attention to her next time. She is the mother of Su Kunjun, the deputy director of the propaganda department. She used to live in the countryside. Later, Su's wife passed away five years after giving birth to their youngest son, Su Beihu. Su was busy with work and could only call his elderly mother from the countryside to take care of the children."

What Wu Yunhua didn't mention was that Su Kunjun's deceased wife had three children, two daughters and one son. The eldest daughter was already in high school. At that time, the family was perfectly capable of taking care of each other. After Old Lady Yang came to the capital, not only did the people in their compound suffer, but the Su family's daughters suffered the most.

Whenever she thinks of this comparison, she feels that her mother-in-law is not bad, except that she is stingy, domineering, and inconsistent in her words and deeds. At least she is not as ruthless as Old Lady Yang.

However, Wu Yunhua was still a little angry. This old lady Yang had a good relationship with her mother-in-law, so how could her grandson bully her daughter and act so shamelessly?

The brief retort, though somewhat impulsive, was undeniably satisfying. Neither of them took it seriously.

Ke Jia was on his way home from work when he was stopped by someone.

Old Mrs. Yang, hands on her hips, said aggressively, "Minister Shen, no offense, but your daughter comes from the countryside and has no manners. Instead of keeping her at home and disciplining her, she's always cursing and swearing. Today she even pushed my grandson down, making him cry all the way home. He can't even have a moment's peace. I'm taking him to the hospital right now. If anything happens to him, your family will have to pay compensation!"

Shen Jia was completely bewildered by what he was being told.

Are you talking about my daughter, Chen Qianqian?

Grandma Yang, without a trace of guilt, tilted her head back and exclaimed, "Who else could it be but her?!"

Shen Jia didn't know the specifics, but he nodded in agreement. After all, the old man wouldn't stop him from lying for no reason.

Moreover, Shen Qianqian is indeed a bit wild, having grown up in the countryside, and she even dared to argue with him at the dinner table.

Shen Jia stormed home, pounding on the door. "Shen Qianqian, you come out here!"

Wu Yunhua heard the sound and ran over immediately.

"Old Jia, what are you doing? Shouting so loudly will scare the child."

"Get out of my way! A doting mother spoils her child. You've spoiled Shen Miaomiao so much, and now you want to ruin Shen Qianqian too?"

Shen Jia pushed Wu Yunhua away and launched into a tirade, leaving Wu Yunhua flustered and bewildered, her head buzzing.

But Shen Jia's questions didn't stop there. He pointed at Wu Yunhua and said, "Don't bother me while I'm disciplining my daughter. Go cook your meal!"

Wu Yunhua's expression turned extremely ugly in an instant. Her hands trembled, shocked and angry. She didn't know where she got the courage, but she looked up and met Shen Jia's angry eyes.

"I'm part of this family too, and I'm also a respected elder. Can't I even discipline your children?! Shen Jia, I'm just your wife, not a servant you can dismiss at will!"

Shen Qianqian had heard enough inside. She opened the door, rubbed her eyes, and was somewhat surprised to see the two people outside.

"Dad, Auntie, what are you doing at the door?"

"Auntie, have you finished cooking? I was reading to Miaomiao, and we both fell asleep. Now I'm so hungry."

Shen Jia's anger was first extinguished by Wu Yunhua's unusual reaction, and then his daughter's natural attitude made him unable to vent his anger.

He waved his hand.

"Let's eat. We can talk about this later."

However, Shen Qianqian, the other protagonist in this incident, straightened her expression and disagreed with going to eat first.

"No, Dad, just say what you need to say first, then we can eat. Otherwise, we'll eat later..."

Even the best food tastes bad if you're not happy eating it. "..." A whole repertoire of little道理 (principles/truths).

Shen Jia suddenly felt a headache coming on, especially since he couldn't vent his anger at the moment, which made him very annoyed.

“I heard you hit Su Beihu today? How could you bully a little kid like him? You even cursed Old Lady Yang?! Shen Qianqian, it was my fault for not raising you properly before, but you've grown up so much, I believe you know right from wrong. I hope you can control yourself.”

Wu Yunhua was about to explain when she heard this.

Shen Qianqian reached out to stop her: "Auntie, let me speak."

Shen Qianqian is not short, but she is still not as tall as her father, Shen Jia, who is over 1.8 meters tall.

She looked directly at her biological father, whom she hadn't seen for thirteen years, her expression stubborn and serious.

"Comrade Shen Jia, under what circumstances do you think I would retaliate?"

Without a second thought, Shen Jia said, "No matter what, you can't bully people!"

"Pshaw, are you deaf?! I was talking about fighting back, and fighting back is not the same as bullying. Fighting back means I'm not in the wrong, you understand?"

Shen Jia was stunned, feeling that his daughter's aura had suddenly changed. No, no, had she just scolded him?!

“I’m your father, and you still talk to me like that. No matter what, you can’t be so rude to me.”

Shen Qianqian curled her lips into a sneer: "Politeness is relative. You're not polite to me, so why should I be polite to you? Just because we're related by blood? Please, I'm a person first, and then your daughter."

Wu Yunhua remained silent.

Shen Qianqian watched as Shen Jia's chest heaved violently with anger.

She sighed, somewhat helplessly.

“Dad, please regain your senses. Don’t rush to cause trouble for your own family just because of what outsiders say. Doing so will not only make you look stupid, but it will also hurt your family.”

Shen Jia finally realized that his daughter was not as obedient as he had imagined.

What obedient girl would say to her father, "You have hearing problems" or "You're stupid"? Not only that, he genuinely sensed a hint of contempt in Shen Qianqian's eyes.

Shen Jia: "..."
