Chapter 1 Alive

Feng Yijia stood with her feet dangling in the air under the shadow of the locust tree in front of her grave, looking at the men and women busy burning incense and visiting the graves all over the hilltop, counting the time with her imaginary fingers.

Is this the twenty-fifth or twenty-sixth year since her death?

A long time has passed, so long that there are fewer and fewer familiar faces among the people visiting the graves, and more and more unfamiliar faces.

It was so long that she, a ghost who didn't need to count the days to live, couldn't even remember how many years she had been dead.

It had been so long that she could remain calm when she saw the two murderers who killed her dressed in suits and ties, looking respectable and being surrounded by people as they visited the grave not far away. She no longer tried to rush over to seek revenge, regardless of the burning pain caused by the direct sunlight on her soul.

This nameless hilltop is the cemetery of the entire Mengjia Village. Anyone who dies in the village is buried here.

Although for some reason, Feng Yi's family hasn't seen any other ghosts in these years, but it does not prevent the family from seeing some special festivals. The place is filled with fireworks and firecrackers, and it is very lively.

But in the past twenty years, none of this has anything to do with Feng Yi's family.

Her father died early and her mother remarried. She grew up living under someone else's roof and was disliked by others. Her husband died just after she got married and she was kicked out by her in-laws. She had no close relatives, so no one thought of burning paper for her at her grave.

The grave mounds piled up haphazardly by the villagers behind her had long been completely submerged in the grass, with no trace visible. Only the wild locust tree in front of the grave had grown from a seedling into a big tree, becoming the symbol of her grave.

Feng Yijia thought that today was no different from previous years. Seeing that the mountain had returned to tranquility, he flew boredly among the leaves and branches, and was very happy to see the leaves swaying slightly wherever he passed.

Unexpectedly, around noon, a middle-aged man who walked with a limp, carrying a basket of paper money, incense and candles, walked straight to the tall locust tree, then squatted down and lit the incense and candles.

Feng Yijia stopped in surprise and looked down at the man who was almost so close to her.

After a while, he shook his head, saying that he didn't know the person, or he knew the person but had forgotten him because it had been so long. In short, he was not familiar with the person.

The man lit the incense and candles, but did not kneel down. He just burned the yellow paper one by one.

After the bundle of paper burned to ashes, he whispered, "Feng Yijia, if you are still alive, please help me find the real murderer who killed you and clear my name!"

Hearing this, Feng Yijia finally knew who the man in front of her was.

His name was Meng Sheng, an unlucky guy. More than 20 years ago, he was walking home drunk and fell asleep on her body, unconscious.

Then he inexplicably became a murderer.

When Feng Yijia first became a ghost, he liked to wander around the village. I heard that this man was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.

It seems that he has been released from prison now, but he is only in his forties, the wrinkles on his forehead are so deep that they can kill a fly, and he has a limp in one leg.

He no longer looks like the young man he once was, which shows that his life in prison has not been easy these years.

But he would definitely be disappointed. As a ghost who cannot leave the grave, is afraid of the sun, rain and thunder, and can only make the leaves around her shake when she moves recently, and can't even scare people, even if she is in heaven, she doesn't have this ability.

Fortunately, the incense, candles and paper money burned in front of her were of no use to her at all, so it couldn't be considered as taking money without doing anything.

Meng Sheng didn't stay at the grave for long and soon left with the empty basket.

Feng Yijia was concerned about Meng Sheng's search for the real culprit behind the incident, so he rarely went down the mountain to the village after dark.

Nowadays, there are fewer and fewer people living in Mengjia Village.

The villagers have either disappeared or moved to cities and towns to live. Only a few old men and women are left who are unwilling to leave or have returned to enjoy the pastoral life in their retirement. There is no fun to be had anymore.

Feng Yijia was not in the mood to wander around, so when he didn't see Meng Sheng that night, he stayed with his mother.

Old Mrs. Meng is already in her seventies or eighties. She lives with her eldest son who is in his fifties or sixties and still single. Although the family is poor and lonely, their life is peaceful and quiet.

Feng Yijia watched them eat and sleep for two days and found out Meng Sheng's whereabouts.

This unlucky guy probably hadn't gotten over his bad luck yet, as he was called by that old man Meng Chengliang to go to the county town to help guard the warehouse.

Feng Yijia began to look forward to what would happen in the future. She stopped wandering around and stayed with Old Lady Meng and her son every day.

The sun rose and set, time passed like water, and the results came out in less than two months.

It was a very gloomy day, with a strong mountain wind blowing. The old lady was just hobbling out to collect the clothes that were hanging out to dry when the sound of a car engine was heard on the village road outside.

Meng Sheng was pulled back into a coffin.

Feng Yijiajia floated forward to take a look. The person was hit by a car and died. Many parts of the body were deformed and it was impossible to recognize the original appearance.

A death more miserable than mine!

Listening to the old lady's hoarse and desperate cries, Feng Yijia looked up at the gloomy sky with contempt in his eyes.

No one knew who said that God has eyes, but in her opinion, even if God really has eyes, they are blind.

It was not known whether it was a coincidence or the tangible disrespect in her eyes angered the almighty God, but a bolt of lightning struck directly at her location.

The last scene that Feng Yijia's ghost heard and saw was a blinding light, rumbling thunder and pouring rain, exactly the same scene as the day she was buried. None of them were pleasant to people, and the ghost hated them very much.

She thought she would disappear from the world this time, but unexpectedly she woke up again.

She was awakened by the pain. Her whole body ached and she felt heavy and weak, completely different from the light and airy feeling she had when she was a ghost.

Feng Yijia was shocked and tried hard to open his eyes. What he saw was the familiar mountains, forests and cliffs.

Lowering his head slightly, he saw a dark-skinned man's head on his chest, emitting a strong smell of alcohol.

It was exactly the same scene she saw when she died and became a ghost more than 20 years ago.

However, the discomfort in his body made Feng Yijia extremely certain and certain that he had not only returned to more than 20 years ago, but also came back to life.

She was stunned by this realization, and then she heard faint voices coming from a distance. Without thinking too much, she raised her hand and pinched Meng Sheng who was lying on her body.

The man groaned, his eyelids twitching a few times before he opened his eyes.

But in his open eyes, hatred and pain surged alternately, but there was not a trace of confusion from just waking up from the drunken stupor.

Seeing someone react, Feng Yijia hurriedly asked, "How are you? Can you stand up?"

Hearing this, Meng Sheng's eyes turned left and right, looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar scene in front of him. His brain was unable to react for a moment, and he felt a little bit unbelievable.

How come he was still wailing in pain under the wheels that crushed him before he lost consciousness, and when he opened his eyes again he was back to the turning point of his fate more than 20 years ago?
