Chapter 43: Courage

Feng Yi's family has always been short of food, but these days, they have been fed by Xu Xiuping's family and have gradually become accustomed to various meats.

I ate two large bowls of greasy stewed meat in the evening and didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

However, at Meng Sheng's house next door, except for Meng Sheng who had eaten a lot of wild food outside, everyone else had diarrhea to varying degrees.

The next morning, when several people were fighting for the toilet, Chen Hongxing felt so distressed.

The good stuff didn't even survive, it passed through the stomach and ended up in the toilet almost in the same state.

When she came out of the toilet holding on to the wall, she was so angry that she scolded her prodigal son Meng Sheng again.

After washing up, Feng Yijia ate noodles with the leftover broth from last night, and listened to the scolding from the neighbors, with a grin on his face.

Even while chewing the pork sent by Meng Sheng, she couldn't stop herself from gloating over the misfortune of others and listening to the fun.

Maybe the diarrhea affected the fighting ability, so Aunt Chen stopped scolding after a while.

Feng Yijia finished the noodles with some regret, cleaned up the dishes, and then continued to go up the mountain to collect medicinal herbs with a backpack and a medicine hoe.

This time, I also put some bamboo tubes and cloth bags in the backpack.

After Doctor Zhang and his family left, there was no one nagging her to be careful, and now that she had all the ingredients for preparing medicinal herbs, she felt she could show off her skills.

As soon as Feng Yijia entered the mountains, she began to keep her eyes and ears open. Thanks to her powerful soul that had been floating for more than 20 years, she now not only has a stronger memory, her five senses are much sharper, but she is also much more flexible.

While collecting herbs, they would also take any valuable snakes, insects, rats, ants, etc. that they found nearby.

There are many kinds of snakes and insects in the mountains in summer. Even though the wounds on his body had not healed completely, some of them escaped from his hands. In less than half a day, Feng Yi's container was full and he reluctantly went down the mountain early.

The sun was still rising slowly in the eastern sky, and it was only a little after ten in the morning.

I happened to run into many villagers who were returning home after work in the fields.

So many villagers saw Feng Yijia coming down the mountain with a basket filled with some unknown medicinal herbs on his back, a string of sealed bamboo tubes hanging around his waist, and several cloth bags in his hands.

Unlike their usual indifference, each one of them couldn't help but look at me again and again, and even looked back after passing by.

Of course, he was not looking at Feng Yijia and her strange appearance, but at the cloth bag she was holding in her hand.

Oh my, through the thin cloth, I can see many strip-shaped things wriggling.

They all grew up in the mountains. You don’t have to guess what the long things that bulge out from time to time are.

Some people in the village also catch snakes, but they just happen to catch one and take it home to add to their dishes.

That thing swims fast, can hide, and many are poisonous. It's risky to catch one, but there's not much meat on it. No one goes out of their way to catch this thing, and no one catches so many at once.

Look at those bulging cloth bags, there are at least a dozen snakes in them.

After the Meng Yun brothers were arrested, Feng Yijia became like a dirty object in the village. Although everyone knew that she was innocent and pitiful, they were afraid that they would also become dirty if they got close to her.

So most of the villagers just glanced at her and passed by without going up to talk to her. At most, they would mutter in their hearts that this girl was so bold that she actually dared to attack the long insect and was not afraid that she would be bitten to death by a poisonous snake like her father who died early.

Of course there are exceptions.

Feng Chunhua, who was carrying a hoe and preparing to go home, came over and looked at the cloth bag in Feng Yijia's hand. She asked with a tingling scalp, "Why are you catching snakes?"

Feng Yijia was extremely upset that he had improved in many aspects after his rebirth, except for his strength.

After walking a long mountain road with the things, he was very tired. When he saw Feng Chunhua asking questions, he simply found a shade under a tree to put the things down. Then he wiped the sweat off his face and replied, "I catch snakes and sell them for money. The medicine shop will buy them!"

“No, didn’t Sister Xu say that you were collecting herbs to sell for money?

Snakes are poisonous and hold grudges, and getting bitten by one is no fun. You have a house and land now, and the village isn't pressing you to pay back the money, so there's no need to fight so hard." Feng Chunhua couldn't help but advise.

Knowing that people were concerned about him, Feng Yijia replied with a smile: "I was picking herbs, and the snakes and insects were just a side item.

Don't worry, good days are waiting for me. I know the importance of the situation and won't fight to the death."

Feng Chunhua heard people say this, and since they were not that close to each other, she did not try to persuade them harshly. She just reminded them, "Be sure to pay attention to safety.

Money can be earned slowly, but life is only one, and if it’s gone, everything is gone!”

After saying that, she touched the goose bumps on her hands and left. She was born and raised in the mountains, but she could never adapt to snakes, which are cold-blooded animals that hide in the dark and wait for an opportunity to strike.

Next came Meng Sheng, who was carrying a dung bucket. Due to the busy streets, he didn't say much. He just said with a gloomy face as he passed by: "I'll come to see you tonight!"

Feng Yijia touched his forehead, wondering what he wanted from him.

Could it be that the people who were hiding behind the fence have received the results of their punishment?

That unhappy look on his face, is this because the result was not satisfactory?

Thinking of this, Feng Yijia's good mood of having a good harvest disappeared.

With a gloomy face, he picked up the backpack and carried the cloth bag and continued walking home.

On the way, she was still thinking about how she would make the Meng Yun brothers regret coming into this world if they were acquitted.

When I get home, I have to sort the things I brought back as soon as possible, wash, dry, soak, cut and bake them. Even if I have something on my mind, time flies by when I am busy.

In a blink of an eye, it was night.

Feng Yijiajia sat at the kitchen door holding a bowl, listening to the chattering and noise from the neighbors on both sides, and finished the last shrimp without feeling lonely at all.

He swept the tip of his tongue along his lips, rolling the soup on the corners of his lips into his mouth. He put down his bowl and chopsticks with satisfaction, sat down on the chair and smacked the remaining taste in his mouth. He felt lazy for a long time before getting up to clean up and wash up.
