Chapter 57: Hoax

Meng Sheng didn't know that his parents at home were worried about him differently.

They dragged the raft, which was piled with stuff, to a place where firewood was piled and stopped.

Then he stuffed a dozen pheasant eggs and a pheasant into Feng Yijia's backpack, and asked someone to carry half of the basket down the mountain first.

Seeing that the people had disappeared, he tied two pieces of firewood to the raft, covering the prey tightly, and then slowly dragged the raft down the mountain.

Don't show off your wealth, and the same goes for free meat.

He has so much money, he is reluctant to give it away. If he doesn't, people will definitely call him stingy.

It’s better to keep it hidden to save trouble.

Chen Hongxing pricked up her ears and finished sewing a shoe sole when she finally heard some movement in the next yard.

He quickly got up and walked to the gate of his yard. Instead of going out, he leaned half of his body out and stretched his head to look to the side.

Seeing the mud on Feng Yijiajia's clothes, his heart tightened, and he looked carefully at the person walking.

Seeing that there was nothing unusual, he turned around and went back to the house.

I counted on my fingers, muttered early July, late August, and finally thought to myself that I had to have a good talk with my son. No matter what, it had to wait until after October.

Feng Yijiajia is not very strong, but he has a strong sense of his surroundings.

He had noticed Chen Hongxing's gaze long ago and looked over here in confusion. Seeing that the person had retracted his head, he lowered his head and continued with his own work.

I just had no idea what was going on in people's heads, and I felt a little uneasy.

Today I asked my son to help me with the work again.

Not long after, Meng Sheng, who had deliberately fallen behind, came back dragging the raft.

Looking at Feng Yijia who was busy in the yard and smiling at him with gratitude, the weight on his shoulders seemed to be lightened, the sun above his head was not so scorching, and he felt a little dizzy.

Seeing that there was no one on the road nearby, he went straight to the back of the yard from the open space connecting the two yards, intending to unload the firewood and Panax notoginseng for Feng Yi's family.

Then, just as he reached the corner, he made eye contact with three people who were halfway through digging the sewer in the house on the other side and were sitting down to rest.

Meng Qiang blinked impatiently and pointed at the raft behind Meng Sheng and asked, "Second brother, I haven't seen anyone for most of the day, and you only managed to chop this little firewood?"

Meng Qiang's eyesight was better, and he actually spotted a colorful feather among the layers of branches. His eyes suddenly sparkled, and he jumped up from the ground and ran straight to the raft. As he ran, he excitedly asked in a low voice, "Second brother, did you kill a pheasant?"

Thanks to the policy of collective ownership of everything in the past few years, everyone subconsciously acted secretly and did not dare to make any big noise, even without anyone reminding them.

The last time he ate meat was more than ten years ago. He worked hard every day and his meals were not very oily, so Meng Qiang had been craving meat for a long time.

Upon hearing this, his long and thin legs jumped up as if they were equipped with springs, and he ran over here following his elder brother.

The two boys arrived in front of the raft in a flash. One of them carried a bundle of firewood and threw it over to the side. They were stunned for a moment when they saw the pile of prey exposed. Then they turned around happily and whispered, "Dad, come and see!"

Meng Chenglin, who was still sitting there, had already seen it and was carefully looking the second boy up and down to see if he was injured anywhere.

Hearing his two sons shouting, he said angrily: "Why are you shouting? I'm not blind!"

After that, he asked his second son, "How did you get so old?"

In a short time, Meng Sheng had come up with a good reason. He walked over to his father, tilted his head and pointed at the yard surrounded by thorns, and whispered, "He did it in collusion with someone!"

After he finished speaking, seeing his father’s skeptical expression, he continued to explain: “Really, Feng Yijia learned how to collect herbs from Doctor Zhang, and also learned some methods to deal with animals in the mountains.

Today when I went into the mountains I happened to see her shooting pheasants with sharpened wooden arrows coated with medicine, but her aim was poor and she missed nine times out of ten.

I was itching to try it, so I went up to talk to him and then tried it.

I didn't expect it to be so successful. I've gained so much in just half a day!"

Meng Chenglin was obviously not someone who could be easily fooled. Upon hearing this, he pointed to the place where a prey had been obviously hammered flat and bruised, and signaled his second son with his eyes to continue making up a story.

Meng Sheng scratched his head and whispered in embarrassment, "My aim isn't very good either. I often miss, and even if I do, it's rare for me to hit the vital spot. The medicine doesn't work immediately, and these things still have to run crookedly for a while before they fall over, but the movement is much slower.

The mountains were full of old trees, vines, and thorn bushes. We used things to smash them in case they ran away to places where they were hard to catch.

Although this may seem a bit tragic and wasteful, it is still better than running away and not being able to find your shadow."

After he finished speaking, afraid that his father would get up and carefully examine his injuries, he lowered his voice and called out to his two brothers who were still excitedly circling around the raft: "Big brother, third brother, move your things home and pack them up first.

The sun is strong, if you leave it out any longer it will stink!"

Upon hearing this, the two men ran back to the yard through the back door with their prey in their hands.

Meng Sheng pointed at the firewood on the ground and the Panax notoginseng on the makeshift raft and said to his father, "Feng Yijia said that we have a large family, so she only took two pheasants back and didn't want the rest.

I couldn't take advantage of her too much, so seeing that she was weak and had difficulty moving things, I offered to help her bring back the firewood and herbs she had chopped from the mountains.

His son spoke in all seriousness, and the whole thing was barely covered up. Plus, it involved the girl next door, so Meng Chenglin felt a little upset. He even didn't like the meat anymore, and didn't think much about it.

He just continued to sit there and said, "The prey is still quite old. I'll process it and distribute some to others later.

You don't need to use too much strength, otherwise it will be considered as bullying.

And since you agreed to help someone, you should deliver it quickly!"

"I'll go right away!" Meng Sheng had achieved all his goals. Before leaving, he added conscientiously, "Dad, you take a break first. I'll do the gutter cleaning work when I'm free later!"

"Okay, go and do your own thing!" His son cared about him and no matter how complicated Meng Chenglin's thoughts were at this moment, a smile appeared on his face.

After coaxing his father, Meng Sheng continued to deliver firewood and Panax notoginseng.

Standing at Feng Yi's house behind his house, he looked at Meng Chenglin who was sitting not far away, and then looked at Meng Sheng who was piling firewood into his own firewood pile. He felt a little headache and felt even more uneasy.

Gritting his teeth, he took Sanqi and whispered, "I can get the firewood myself. You can go and do your work at home!"

"With your physique, I'm afraid you'll collapse from exhaustion after carrying a bundle of firewood back from the mountains.

Don't worry, my parents both agree that I can help you!" Meng Sheng said, then put his things away and left.

While Feng Yijia continued to wash and dry Panax notoginseng, she was still thinking, has she met one of the top ten good neighbors?

Was the strange look in Chen Hongxing's eyes when she looked at him pity or concern?
