Chapter 8 I Don't Do Murder or Arson

Ji Huaizhi's expression was a little awkward.

He counted and fortunately, there were fifty-seven dollars and ten cents.

He handed the money to Li Yang: "Take these first, I'll figure out the rest."

Li Yang quickly waved his hands: "No, no, you don't have to think of a solution."

She didn't know exactly what Ji Huaizhi did for a living, but in her heart, as long as Ji Huaizhi went to make money, there was a high possibility that he would get hurt, otherwise where did the bruises on the corners of his mouth that had not yet disappeared come from.

Hearing this, Ji Huaizhi poked his cheek with the tip of his tongue, as if he could see what she was thinking: "I don't do murder or arson."

"..." Li Yang felt like crying, "That's not what I meant."

She really was just worried about him.

"What are you thinking about all day, little girl?" Ji Huaizhi patted the top of Li Yang's head and stuffed the money into her hand. "Since you are nominally my wife, I can't let you spend money, otherwise where will my face be?"

"But……"

"It's okay, just keep it." Ji Huaizhi interrupted her and turned into the inner room. "You can rest here from now on. There's a new set of sheets in the cabinet. You can change into them later. Sometimes I don't come back at night, so you can lock the door by yourself."

"Then where are you sleeping?" Li Yang felt that this question was inappropriate, so he explained, "No, I mean, you gave me your room, what will you do?"

Ji Huaizhi replied, "I'm going to sleep with Gangzi."

Li Yang also recognized Gangzi, whom Ji Huaizhi mentioned. They grew up in the same alley. When other children were avoiding Ji Huaizhi, he was one of the few who took the initiative to play with him, and this went on for many years.

Li Yang looked at the neatly made bed, feeling a little embarrassed. Not only had he asked Ji Huaizhi for such a big favor, but now he was occupying his bed. He said, "I really trouble you too much. Don't worry, after these few days of chaos are over, I will move to the factory to live. This way..."

The jewelry factory had staff dormitories, and all they had to do was pay a monthly fee for accommodation and utilities. However, Feng Mei objected, thinking it was too expensive. "You have a place to live at home, and you want to live in the factory? Why waste that money?"

After all, her marriage with Ji Huaizhi was fake, and she couldn't stay at his house and bother him all the time, so moving to the factory after sorting out the family affairs was the best option.

Under Ji Huaizhi's cold gaze, Li Yang spoke more and more quietly, and finally stopped talking altogether.

It's still a bit scary when the boss has a cold face and doesn't say anything. I don't know if he is angry.

She heard Ji Huaizhi sigh softly and said, "You rest first, we'll talk about these things later. I'll be out for a while." He turned around and was about to go out.

"Wait a minute." Seeing Ji Huaizhi about to leave, Li Yang mustered up the courage to chase after him. "Well, I want to ask, do you want to go home for dinner tonight? I have something to tell you."

When he heard the word "home", Ji Huaizhi was a little absent-minded.

Many years have passed and he has forgotten what home is like.

He has no home anymore.

But when he turned around and looked at the little girl standing at the door looking at him, something in his heart suddenly softened.

He nodded, his usually indifferent peach blossom eyes tinged with a hint of warmth: "I'm back."

Hearing this, the little girl smiled happily, revealing a pair of sweet dimples: "Then it's settled."

*

Li Yang originally wanted to clean up the house, but he found that although the house was simple, it was very clean and tidy. It was not at all like Li Yaozu's room which was messy and smelly.

There's nothing wrong with the house except that it's bare and lacks any earthly atmosphere.

Li Yang picked up a few decent pieces of clothes from the pile of discarded clothes, washed them, and hung them in the yard.

There's no way. She can't really throw away all her clothes. She has to wear them tomorrow, right?

When I finished my work, it was already afternoon. Thinking of what I had agreed with Ji Huaizhi to do to go home for dinner, I locked the door and hurried to the vegetable market.

As she walked, she was thinking about how to spend the fifty-plus dollars.

There are still many things that are missing at home, but her salary will not be paid for another half a month, so she can only buy the important things first, such as kitchen seasonings, which must be added first. As for the other things, she will deal with them after she gets her salary.

There are also many people in the vegetable market in the afternoon. Those who have to go to work in the morning and don’t have time to buy vegetables will come to the vegetable market to buy vegetables after get off work in the afternoon.

Today's wet markets are overflowing with a wide variety of ingredients. Chicken, duck, fish, goose, and seafood are already commonplace, and even many rare wild animals are trafficked. Li Yang remembers a saying that describes Guangzhou: "Except for airplanes in the sky and four-legged tables on the ground, there is nothing that cannot be eaten."

Li Yang wandered around for a while before finally buying half a free-range chicken, a wild crucian carp, and some cauliflower. He also weighed some fat for oil extraction. The chicken was used to make soy sauce chicken, the crucian carp to make tofu and crucian carp soup, and the cauliflower was stir-fried with the fried fat. Three dishes should be enough for two people.

In addition to the dinner, Li Yang bought a washbasin, a water cup, and some seasonings, then rushed back to the hunting village with the dishes.

Just as I was opening the door, someone who lived next door opened the door. It was a woman in her forties or fifties with short hair cut to her ears and a round face with a smile on her face.

Her eyes fell on Li Yang, and she looked him over discreetly before saying with a smile, "Oh, you're Li Jianhai's daughter, right? What are you doing..."

Li Yang had seen the woman in front of him in the village before. She could usually hear her hearty laughter from a distance. She didn't expect that she was Ji Huaizhi's neighbor and knew him. She nodded and said, "Ji Huaizhi and I are married. I'm going out to buy some food."

As soon as the words fell, the woman's eyes widened, obviously very surprised: "You married Ji Huaizhi?"
