Li Yang turned around and saw that it was Gao Xinchen.
He was wearing a flowered shirt underneath, his hair still combed back, and he looked at her with a grin: "It's so late, why are you here alone?"
There were several young people behind Gao Xinchen, both men and women, all of whom looked like rich young men and women, and they were looking at the two of them with ambiguous eyes.
Unlike the refreshing scent of soapberry on Ji Huaizhi's body, Gao Xinchen's clothes carried a fragrance that she couldn't describe. Just like the feeling he gave people, passionate and unrestrained. Li Yang tugged at her coat, wanting to return it to him: "I came to visit a relative."
Gao Xinchen saw Li Yang's intention and pressed her hand before her. He quickly let go and said, "You better keep it on. If you catch a cold, who will accompany me to the exhibition?"
Li Yang knew Gao Xinchen was a man of his word, so he could only nod, "Thank you."
Gao Xinchen waved to his companions: "Let's stop here for tonight. We'll meet again another day."
Gao Xinchen was obviously the leader among these young people. As soon as he said this, everyone nodded without any objection. However, one of the young girls called out in a delicate voice, "Young Master Gao..."
Gao Xinchen still had a faint smile on his face, his eyes narrowed: "Be obedient."
The girl was startled, bit her lip, glared at Li Yang in dissatisfaction, and left with the group.
Seeing that no one else was around, Gao Xinchen looked at Li Yang and said, "You're here to visit your relatives, so why are you going back alone so late?"
Li Yang curled his lips, a look of weariness still on his face: "I didn't notice it was already this late."
Just as he finished speaking, his stomach growled, a sound that was especially clear on the empty street. Li Yang covered his stomach awkwardly, "..."
Gao Xinchen tutted his words: "You are such a bad relative, you won't even invite me to dinner?"
Li Yang thought of Li Xue who was still lying on the hospital bed, snorted, and said nothing.
Gao Xinchen pulled up the sleeve of Li Yang's coat and said, "Come on, I'll take you to fill your stomach."
Li Yang wanted to refuse, but was concerned that Gao Xinchen was his creditor, and besides, he had good intentions, so he obediently followed behind.
Gao Xinchen took Li Yang for a short walk around the area. The big restaurants were all closed, leaving only a few street vendors still hawking their wares. He rubbed his nose and said, "Well, let's just eat something here. I'll treat you to a seafood feast next time."
Li Yang was already ravenous, so he didn't care about that at all. He nodded and said, "Anything is fine."
Gao Xinchen picked a small cart that looked relatively clean and tidy, ordered boat porridge, fried beef noodles and stir-fried clams, and sat on a small bench on the side of the road with Li Yang.
Gao Xinchen was tall and slender, and he was dressed quite elegantly. Li Yang found it a little funny to see him sitting with his long legs bent. He never expected that such a well-dressed and well-fed young man would be so lowly as to work at such a roadside stall.
Gao Xinchen couldn't see the smile in Li Yang's eyes and asked, "What are you laughing at?"
Li Yang shook his head: "I just think your outfit doesn't match the street food."
Gao Xinchen raised his eyebrows as he scalded the dishes with hot water. "It's not that complicated. When I was little, I often followed my old man around in all weathers."
The Gao family dotes on their grandson Gao Xinchen, but they also make sure he endures hardships. Therefore, Gao Xinchen has the arrogance and frivolity of a rich kid, but also the peace and calmness to blend in with the world.
Li Yang took the hot dishes and chopsticks he had prepared, just smiled and said nothing.
After spending a few times with Gao Xinchen, she had a rough idea of his temperament. Normally, if she followed his wishes, he would be easy to get along with and would not be afraid of anything. However, if she provoked him, he would immediately turn hostile.
She still wanted to rely on him to help implement her plan, so she naturally couldn't afford to offend him.
*
The two of them finished their midnight snack in silence. Gao Xinchen offered to take Li Yang home, but Li Yang refused.
Gao Xinchen didn't allow any arguments: "Come on, you live so far away from here, you won't even get there by daybreak if you walk on your two legs."
He made a phone call, and soon a black car drove over. The driver, who was probably the Gao family's driver, respectfully addressed him as "Young Master."
Gao Xinchen told Li Yang's address, striding forward, and got into the car. He leaned back in the chair, crossing his legs. "Why, do you want me to invite you up?"
When Li Yang heard this, he hurriedly got into the car.
Seeing Li Yang shrinking to one side and sitting upright, Gao Xinchen laughed: "Why, aren't you usually quite formidable? Now you're afraid of me?"
Li Yang didn't argue with him and said honestly, "You are my creditor, so naturally things are different from before."
Gao Xinchen clicked his tongue, obviously not satisfied with her answer, but he didn't make things difficult for her. He closed his eyes, supported his forehead with one hand, and dozed off.
Even though Li Yang repeatedly warned herself not to fall asleep, perhaps because the car was too warm, her tense mood of the day gradually relaxed and she fell into a deep sleep.
When they reached the entrance of the hunting village, the car couldn't drive in, so the driver stopped on the side and said, "Master, we're here."
Gao Xinchen stretched out his slender index finger, hushed, and waved his hand.
The driver understood, got out of the car quietly and closed the door.
The roof of the car was illuminated by a dim street lamp, which shone through the windows. Because of the darkness, it only added a little bit of light to the car.
In the closed car, Li Yang curled himself up into a ball, wrapped tightly in Gao Xinchen's loose clothes, and was sleeping soundly.
Gao Xinchen looked at Li Yang's sleeping face, reached out and brushed the strands of hair off her forehead, and chuckled, "You're talking about getting married? Would your man leave you out this late at night? Liar."
He withdrew his hand, opened the car door, leaned against it, asked the driver for a cigarette, and started smoking it intermittently.
