"Grandma, are these cabinets a set?" Lin Ziyan's eyelids twitched.
This fragrance is definitely not from pear wood.
“Yes, it’s a group.” Lin Atai’s cloudy eyes gleamed.
Aunt Huang stepped forward, took a look, and nodded. "There's also a fragrance, it smells really nice."
The chubby girl was exhausted and collapsed to the side, saying, "Too heavy..."
"When you get married, your mother will have a cabinet like this custom-made for you as part of your dowry," Aunt Chen promised.
But the chubby girl disagreed, saying, "Wait a few more years. I'm not in the mood for that right now."
Then she was slapped on the shoulder. "You brat, when will you ever have any thoughts?"
"It's driving me crazy! She doesn't seem to want to get married at all. She'll be an old maid by now. If it weren't for Er Gouzi, her father and I would be looking for a son-in-law to live with us." Aunt Chen complained to Aunt Huang.
Grandma Lin laughed and said, "Maybe we'll be looking for a son-in-law to live with us in the future?"
Aunt Huang and Aunt Chen exchanged a glance, but neither of them spoke.
Aunt Chen clenched her hands, wanting to ask Grandma, but seeing her sharp gaze, she didn't ask.
The chubby girl's eyes lit up instantly. "That's a great idea, Grandma, what do you think?"
“I think so,” Lin Atai said jokingly, patting her hand.
She stopped fortune-telling a long time ago; it's not a big deal, and nobody comes to her for that.
Lin Ziyan got goosebumps on her arms, feeling that most of the things her grandmother said suddenly would come true.
Aunt Chen stared at her daughter, speechless.
If she were to actually take in a son-in-law, she would build a few more rooms next door, since the land at home was big enough.
In the following days,
Lin Ziyan had the old house completely demolished, making the yard much brighter.
She showed the drawings to the craftsmen, and several of them said they couldn't make something like that.
"You should go to the next village and ask Grandpa Huang to do it; that should be enough," Grandpa Lin said after looking at her drawings.
The Lin family demolished and rebuilt their old house, and villagers would come to visit it from time to time.
After a few months, they all had some money in their pockets.
Some people simply take on two jobs, helping out at the port and working as temporary laborers at the fish farm, which allows them to earn money quickly.
After the last typhoon, everyone was thinking about building houses.
They figured they could just build it while raising money.
Lin Ziyan nodded after hearing what Grandpa Lin said.
She wasn't in a hurry. Anyway, the house had been leveled, and there were two other rooms next door, though the stove was a temporary structure and not very convenient.
"Sister, Professor Shen has arrived at the village entrance..." Xiaoxiao, the second sister, ran back, panting and covered in sweat.
At lunchtime, she saw Professor Shen get off the bus with a group of people, and she ran back along a side path.
Lin Ziyan said, "Go inside and drink some cool water. You look so hot."
Xiaoxiao paused for a moment before continuing, "He brought a lot of people with him."
As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Hai walked through the doorway, and stared blankly for a few seconds when he saw what was inside.
"Did the typhoon blow down the old house?" He hurriedly went inside.
The layout of the courtyard remained unchanged, but all the old houses had been demolished, leaving not even a trace of mud.
"It was leaking, and one wall collapsed, so I got someone to demolish it. It's perfect for building a new house," Lin Ziyan explained briefly, then looked thoughtful as she saw a group of people at the door.
When she was writing her thesis, she found that many aquaculture experts had been stationed in fishing villages to conduct research.
Shen Hai coughed a few times, "I applied for funding to come to your fishing village to do research, and I brought them along as well, so we formed a research team."
A research building will also be built to facilitate future student visits and research trips.
Lin Ziyan raised an eyebrow slightly, but didn't ask any further questions.
It would be even better if a research team could move in.
Just when she was worried that she wouldn't be able to handle those yellow croakers, a group of helpers arrived.
A large group of people walked towards the beach to the east.
The village children followed them all the way, only leaving when they reached the beach.
It's quite far from the school, so they didn't dare to continue following.
"Why do I see more than just small yellow croakers?" Shen Hai asked, looking at the separated area with a puzzled expression.
He immediately went to the tool shed next door, put on his rubber boots, and went inside.
The others followed one after another.
Lin Ziyan waited until they all went inside before following them.
"Ayan, are they going to stay for a long time?" the chubby girl asked as she rushed over.
The village officials are already preparing houses; the commune office has been converted into a large communal room, where even luggage has been put.
"Yes, it's a good thing that the research team has moved in. Otherwise, it would be a bit uncertain whether we could successfully raise yellow croaker." After saying that, Lin Ziyan put on her straw hat and followed.
Shen Hai first arrived at the fish farming area, looked at the yellowish-brown water, and nodded.
Immediately, someone took out a toolbox, took some water, and added the reagent.
Before it was even shaken, the water turned purplish-red.
"Teacher Shen, do you also do water quality testing?" the chubby girl asked casually.
Everyone looked at her, their eyes filled with surprise.
Lin Ziyan, however, had already walked forward, wanting to check on the condition of the sea crabs.
“Ayan has done it too…” The chubby girl briefly explained before following Lin Ziyan.
She was more interested in seeing sea crabs than yellow croakers.
Shen Hai's lips twitched slightly. He had almost forgotten that Lin Ziyan would definitely have the water quality tested.
A group of people walked in together, and when they saw the sea crabs, they were all stunned.
Shen Hai was so excited he almost plunged into the sea, but luckily he grabbed onto a wooden pillar next to him.
"You also raise sea crabs? And what's over there?" Shen Hai discovered that the other side was separated, and the area was quite large.
He was only gone for a month, how come it feels like he missed out on so much?
