A little boy peeked out, saw Lin Ziyan, blushed, and called out, "Sister Lin."
"Tiger, who is it!" Aunt Huang's voice came from inside the house.
"Sister Lin from next door..." Tiger opened the door and ran inside.
Lin Ziyan, "..."
She followed them inside. "Aunt Huang, my family made some sweet potato soup. I'll bring some over for you to try."
Lin Ziyan walked into the house and saw Aunt Huang sewing pants.
Tiger sat beside her picking vegetables, looking very well-behaved.
Rainwater slid down the eaves like threads, and a thick mist filled the air.
"Ah Yan, why did you send this over? This candy is so rare..." Aunt Huang hurriedly stood up, her expression full of disapproval.
Tiger started clamoring to eat as soon as he smelled the aroma.
But where in the house is there any candy?
The sugar I bought in town was long gone, mixed with sugar water and drunk up sometime ago.
"Aunt Huang, we cooked too much at home, it would be a waste if we couldn't finish it." Lin Ziyan put down the bowl and left. She didn't know what else to say if she kept refusing.
She used to be a socially awkward person who only buried herself in books and experiments. She only learned to cook because she didn't want to go out.
Reborn into this small fishing village, she didn't interact much with her neighbors.
Lin Ziyan walked quickly, holding an umbrella as she returned to the courtyard.
Aunt Huang watched her retreating figure, her eyes slightly red.
This isn't about cooking too much; it's about thinking of them. Who would cook too much food to give away these days?
"Mom, can I eat this?" Tiger licked his lips and stared at the sweet potato soup in the bowl.
"Eat up, remember how kind Sister Lin is, and don't be lazy if you can help with chores in the future." Aunt Huang lowered her head to sew her pants, trying to hide her bittersweet emotions.
"Mom, you eat too." Tiger took a bite, then placed the bowl in front of her and handed it to her.
"You eat, Mom isn't hungry..."
"No, Sister Lin brought it over for us to eat together." Tiger was very stubborn.
He held the enamel spoon to Aunt Huang's mouth and watched her eat.
Aunt Huang's nose tingled as she thought of her eldest son, and her eyes welled up with tears again.
It's been almost half a month since I left, and I haven't heard from me at all.
…
Two days later, on the cargo ship.
Yang Yanzhou looked at the churning waves on the sea, his eyes filled with worry.
Lu Yunshen simply watched, his thoughts drifting away.
"Brother Shen, it's been raining for almost a day, and the waves are so big. If a small cargo ship were in this area, it would probably..."
Yang Yanzhou suddenly stopped and didn't continue.
He almost forgot that Brother Shen was discharged from the army because of a shipwreck.
Lu Yun Shen looked at the sea and suddenly frowned slightly.
There seems to be something floating on the sea ahead.
He picked up his binoculars and looked out at the distant sea. There was a person lying on the log.
"What's wrong?" Yang Yanzhou became tense when he saw his expression change.
Pirates are frequently seen at sea these days, so you won't be so unlucky as to run into one, right?
“There’s someone over there.” Lu Yunshen handed him the binoculars and turned to walk towards the cockpit.
Yang Yanzhou glanced through the binoculars, and his brow twitched.
There really is someone here; there shouldn't be any small cargo ships around here.
This is a notoriously dangerous sea area, abundant with king crabs, but only large cargo ships dare to sail into it.
Experienced captains generally wouldn't venture into these waters.
"Turn around, head that way," Lu Yunshen told the captain, then quickly walked to the other side.
A scene flashed through his mind: his comrades voluntarily abandoned the floating object and sank to the bottom of the sea…
Lu Yunshen clenched his fists and strode towards the location where the yacht was being lowered.
"Are you crazy? Going off the ship yourself to rescue people?"
"The waves are so big now, it's too dangerous, you could lose your life at any moment!" Yang Yanzhou grabbed his hand.
He strained with all his might, staring in shock at his friend.
"Let go." Lu Yunshen flung his hand away and strode into the yacht.
"If everyone stood by and did nothing, I would have died in the sea long ago, and my body would never have been found."
Lu Yunshen's voice was cold, and the muscles in his arms were taut, with veins bulging.
A huge wave crashed over Yang Yanzhou, drenching him from head to toe, and he shivered.
The salty, fishy smell lingered all around him, and he could only watch helplessly as his friend disembarked to rescue people.
Yang Yanzhou gripped the railing on the deck, his gaze following Lu Yunshen toward the floating piece of wood.
Another huge wave surged up, and in an instant, the yacht was lifted up by the wave. Lu Yunshen grabbed the boat and reached out to pull the people on the logs.
…
the next day,
The sun was shining brightly, and the sky was crystal clear.
Inside the Lin family courtyard,
Lin Ziyan was moving ice blocks, this time she called a village oxcart.
Because it was the weekend, a group of children gathered at the door, watching them move ice blocks.
"Uncle Chen, the two of us can carry it. Please sit and wait for a while."
After Lin Ziyan finished speaking, she quickened her pace and walked back into the house.
The children at the entrance were gathered around the oxcart, staring intently at the blocks of ice on it.
Under the sunlight, the sea surface shimmered with a dazzling white light.
After loading the ice, the chubby girl got into the oxcart, which swayed slightly.
Grandpa Chen turned his head and glanced at her, his lips twitching.
It's not easy to find a plump girl in these surrounding villages.
Since the chubby girl returned to the village, matchmakers have practically worn down her doorstep.
What family wouldn't want to marry such a lucky girl?
"Uncle Chen, let's go!" The chubby girl had barely finished speaking when the oxcart started moving.
Lin Ziyan watched them leave before returning to the courtyard.
Last night I heard Aunt Huang crying softly in the yard. Her eldest son hadn't returned home by the due date, and things looked grim.
Early in the morning, Aunt Huang took her youngest son to the temple.
Lin Ziyan frowned slightly, then stopped thinking about it.
