Chapter 48 Buying Books

After calming down, Grandma Lan frowned slightly.

"I got it from Grandma Lin's house. It was drawn by her granddaughter, Ah Yan..."

Grandma Lan briefly recounted what had happened at the Lin family's house.

“You can send someone to the school to investigate what Ayan said, as well as that foreign store.”

"That cargo ship model is an imported product."

Old Man He nodded. He wasn't sure about the other families, but he felt that Lin Atai's family was trustworthy.

Lin Atai was still holding the IOU written in the commander's own handwriting!

But she didn't plan to exchange it, saying she would keep it as a keepsake.

The gold bars she donated at that time saved the entire army in Fukushima.

During this special period, the Lin family was protected by the commander, and no one dared to touch them.

"Old man, you have to believe that geniuses really exist in the world."

"Our country is currently in a period of development, so we must protect our professional talents." Grandma Lan sighed, took off her reading glasses, and thought of her former classmates.

Old Man He nodded, picked up the phone and dialed a special number. He briefly explained the situation and asked them to verify it as soon as possible.

Grandma Lan gently stroked the blueprints with her wrinkled hands, feeling very calm at that moment.

"Lock up the blueprints," Old Man He said with a serious expression.

Grandma Lan nodded. Wouldn't she have that much awareness?

She looked up and glared at the old man, muttering, "What a hypocrite."

Old Man He's lips twitched, and he coughed twice to cover his embarrassment.

"Put everything away and come out for dinner." He walked out of the study with his hands behind his back.

Grandma Lan watched his retreating figure, shook her head, and smiled.

Two days later,

The shrimp larvae have entered another growth stage, so Lin Ziyan no longer needs to go to the shrimp farm every day.

She went to check out the feeding schedule with the chubby girl in the morning, finalized the feeding details for the following week, and then went straight home.

Today she wants to go to the city library.

"Ah Yan, are you sure you don't need me to come with you?" The chubby girl followed her into the courtyard and asked.

She was actually busy; she had to go to her father's shrimp farm that afternoon.

Lin Ziyan looked up at the cargo ship model on the table, her eyes flickering slightly. "No need."

"It only takes 3 hours by shuttle bus."

The chubby girl looked at her with concern.

The round trip takes 6 hours, and by the time we get back to the village, it's almost dark.

"I haven't been to the Friendship Store in the city yet, so I'll go and have a look around."

"I heard they have everything there, but everything requires foreign exchange drafts." Lin Ziyan tied her braids, deliberately making them loose this time.

"Things there are incredibly expensive; just one item costs twice the salary of an average worker." The chubby girl leaned against the doorway, watching her tie her hair.

She wondered if it was just her imagination, but she always felt that Ah Yan's braids were different from other people's.

Lin Ziyan nodded, thinking that there should be shampoo and hair cream there, but she didn't know if she needed foreign exchange drafts.

Fangjie doesn't have these things, otherwise she wouldn't have gone so far to buy them.

“My dad bought a bicycle yesterday, and now we don’t need a ticket.”

"He got up early this morning to clean the car, making sure to wipe away every speck of dust," the chubby girl muttered.

Lin Ziyan moved quickly, and in no time she was fully armed, even wearing a homemade mask.

The chubby girl rode her bicycle to take her to the town's bus station.

I took a bus from the town to the county, and then transferred to a bus to the city.

It was already noon when Lin Ziyan arrived at the city library.

The building is gray and white, with only the words "City Library" in black lettering on the outside.

She straightened her clothes before entering the library.

The wooden bookshelves, row upon row, are neatly labeled with categories. The pungent smell of printing fills the air, creating a quiet atmosphere that calms the mind and makes one unconsciously slow down their steps.

An older man with black-rimmed glasses was sitting by the door, flipping through a notebook and writing down borrowing records.

Lin Ziyan looked at the categories and walked inside.

There are probably not many books on ships and aquaculture in this era. When she came, she asked the uncle who drives a tricycle for passengers.

There's a bookstore next to the library; it has a wide selection of books, but they're expensive.

Lin Ziyan was in a hurry, so she went inside and found the categories. After looking through them, she was somewhat disappointed, as none of them contained the books she wanted.

She then looked through the basic aquaculture books and realized there was no need to borrow them back.

Lin Ziyan left the library directly.

The uncle guarding the door glanced at her, then looked down at his notebook.

He probably never met the person who came and left in a hurry.

People who come here usually stay for most of the day, since the city library has the most comprehensive collection of books.

Lin Ziyan had no idea what the older man was thinking; she had already quickly walked into the bookstore.

Without even checking the shop, he went straight to the ship classification section.

Her eyes lit up when she saw the English version of the book.

Lin Ziyan tiptoed, took down the book, and breathed a sigh of relief.

That's way too high...

She checked the price; the book cost over 100 yuan…

"Young lady, put this book down if you're not going to buy it, it's expensive!" The shopkeeper's heart jumped into her throat when she saw her take the book from the top shelf.

Lin Ziyan ignored her and read several more books on aquaculture, still holding that English book in her hand.

The proprietress hurried inside, intending to snatch the book from her hand.

Lin Ziyan switched hands, and she missed completely.

"I'll buy it," Lin Ziyan said calmly.

If she doesn't take it, who will she cry to if someone else takes it away?

This is her latest version; I guess the bookstore only stocked this one.

"Can you afford it? This book isn't cheap." The shopkeeper, having failed to snag a book, put her hands on her hips, her tone full of sarcasm.
