The port was reopened the next day.
The chubby girl returned from the port early in the morning and hurriedly rode her bike to deliver ice.
"Many cargo ships have docked, and the port is too busy to handle them all."
Ah Yan, the port is short of large blocks of ice…
She left with those words, got on her bike, and rode away.
Lin Ziyan pursed her lips, not surprised.
She was just about to go to the shrimp farm when she heard a commotion coming from Aunt Huang's house next door.
The sound grew louder and louder.
"Widow Huang, are you taking advantage of me because I don't know anything?"
Why won't you accept my seaweed and lemons?
Lin Ziyan frowned and walked to Aunt Huang's door to take a look.
That person's words are so awful.
Aunt Huang had been a widow for many years, but no one dared to come to her door and curse her.
"Grandma Qin, why are you looking for my mother? I told her I wouldn't accept your goods." Aunt Huang's eldest son, A-Jian, stood in front of her.
He continued, “Your seaweed is mixed with a lot of other hay, and these lemons, all of them are rotten.”
"That's why we don't accept them."
Lin Ziyan stood at the door, saw the old man, and thought back for a moment.
This Tan Atai was notorious in the village for being greedy for small gains and for taking advantage of his age.
She is also Wei Sheng's grandmother.
“I don’t care. All you’ve said to the outside world is that you’re collecting dried seaweed and lemons. If you don’t collect them now, I’m not leaving.”
Tan Atai sat down on the ground with a "what can you do about it?" expression on his face.
Aunt Huang was furious, but there was nothing she could do about it.
How could she possibly kick a woman in her seventies out of the house?
“Brother Jian, go to his house and ask his son to come and take the person away.”
“We really can’t accept these goods.” Lin Ziyan walked into the courtyard.
When Qin Atai saw her, he squinted, his eyes filled with malice.
Her grandson was bewitched by this little vixen; otherwise, how could he have gotten his hand caught and still be unable to work?
"Ayan, what brings you here? Haven't you gone to the shrimp farm yet?" Aunt Huang hurriedly stepped forward.
Having received so many items, this was the first time she had encountered something like this.
Tan Atai sat on the ground, fanning herself with a palm-leaf fan.
"That little vixen, just like her great-grandmother, is a shameless hussy..." Great-Grandma Qin muttered.
Lin Ziyan squinted her eyes. It was one thing for her to be scolded, but she also scolded her great-grandmother.
"I was just about to go out when I heard a dog barking, so I came to check it out."
"Who are you calling a dog?" Qin Atai suddenly stood up and reached out to grab Lin Ziyan's hair.
"Whoever agrees, that's who it is."
Lin Ziyan grabbed her wrist and smiled faintly.
But she didn't hold him for long before letting him go, lest he be extorted for medical expenses later.
"You...you..." Qin Atai clutched his chest, pointed at her, and couldn't utter a single curse.
Lin Ziyan walked to the snakeskin bag next to her, and a stench emanated from it.
The lemons in the bag were surrounded by a group of small black insects.
Another black bag contained dried seaweed mixed with a lot of other bits of straw.
“Brother Jian, if she’s not leaving, let her sit there. We really can’t accept these things.”
“Otherwise, if someone gets a stomachache, we’ll have to pay them compensation.” Lin Ziyan stood up, glanced at the old man glaring at her, and said nothing more.
"I'm going to find Wei Er," A-Jian said, and started to walk out.
When Aunt Qin saw him actually walk out, she picked up the snakeskin bag and the black plastic bag, glared at them fiercely, and then walked out.
She was afraid that if her eldest son really came to pick her up, she would only have a small bowl of rice for dinner that night.
At this time, the Wei family...
Li Zhaodi sat on a stone stool at home, eating sweet potatoes while muttering curses.
"You old hag, where have you been so early in the morning? You didn't even make breakfast."
"When she comes back, we need to change her bowl to a smaller one, otherwise she'll always eat a big bowl for every meal, and she'll eat up all the food in the house."
She ate half a sweet potato before going into the kitchen to start a fire.
"Mom, my stomach hurts from hunger. Isn't breakfast ready yet?" Wei Sheng called out impatiently, his hair disheveled and looking like it hadn't been washed in a long time.
"I'm calling back my soul! I came back from work this morning exhausted, and I ate sweet potatoes when I was hungry."
"Get ready, we're going to the next village to propose marriage later." Li Zhaodi said, her voice choked with anger, and she started cursing again.
Wei Sheng didn't hear the next sentence clearly, turned around and went back to his room to continue sleeping.
When Aunt Qin returned to her doorstep, she wiped the sweat from her brow. Hearing the cursing, she quickly went inside.
A short while later, shouting and arguing erupted from the kitchen.
…
Time flies, and a week later,
Lin Ziyan found an oxcart in the village to haul ice to the port.
She didn't go with the car; the chubby girl was waiting at the port.
Lin Ziyan went to the ice-making workshop to conduct a random inspection of the ice blocks and also changed the filter material.
When she got home, Huo Qizhen was sitting on her family's stone stool, with an old man sitting next to him.
"Boss Lin, if you don't come back soon, I'm going to wait for you at the shrimp farm." Huo Qizhen stood up when he saw her.
Lin Ziyan then realized that the person sitting next to her was Professor Ruan.
"The shrimp haven't even come out yet, and you're already pulling out the ice?" Lin Ziyan asked suspiciously.
She walked up to Professor Ruan and said, "Professor Ruan, please wait a moment."
"You go ahead with your work," Professor Ruan said calmly.
Huo Qizhen’s eyes lit up. He hadn’t expected that the person sitting next to him was a university professor.
He snapped out of his reverie and continued, "I'd like to sign a reservation contract."
"You don't know, a lot of foreign businessmen have come to the city recently, and the demand for shrimp is huge."
"The port has opened, but a lot of seafood is being shipped to other places, leaving only small shrimp behind, and the price has increased quite a bit."
Lin Ziyan nodded and glanced at the contract he had prepared in advance.
She added a few more clauses, and after chatting for a while, the two signed the second contract.
