A military target practice song began to play, its melody uplifting and inspiring.
General Chu paused for a few seconds, then hummed along to the song, tapping his fingers on the table to keep the beat.
Cen Ning hadn't recovered from the news when she suddenly heard singing and quickly walked towards General Chu's direction.
Their trip south was less about finding glass and more about conducting an undercover investigation.
According to the newspapers, they all know that Guangzhou and Fuzhou are developing very fast, but just how fast exactly?
They didn't have a direct experience of it; they just felt that the claims in the newspapers were exaggerated.
But what they saw and heard on this trip south exceeded all their expectations.
It's happening too fast. Skyscrapers are springing up everywhere, and hundreds of control towers are being erected—it's impossible to count them all.
They arrived at Fushi Port just now, and were taken aback by the size of the port even before disembarking.
Cen Ning had visited the largest ports in other countries, but none were as safe as those in Fuzhou.
No, it's big and new, and its level of activity far exceeds that of major ports abroad.
"Has this radio been released yet? Where can I buy the cassette tape?" General Chu asked impatiently as the song ended.
Mr. Lu looked at him questioningly; he wanted to know too.
With a radio, you no longer have to worry about a bad signal on rainy days and not being able to receive the stations you want to listen to.
"It's already on the market, but it's mainly sold overseas right now. It won't be available in China until before the new year," Lin Ziyan said frankly, without hiding anything.
The domestic cassette tape industry started in Guangzhou, so even if it was launched earlier, it wouldn't make a difference.
She was waiting for cassette tapes to become widespread in Guangzhou...
Mr. Lu said directly, "Then we'll pre-order it. This cassette tape should be available in the electronics markets in Beijing by then."
General Chu nodded; he did indeed have this idea.
Cen Ning: "I want to make a reservation too, why didn't you two include me?"
He had a lot of contact with General Chu, so he wasn't as constrained in his interactions with him.
Lu's father and General Chu have only started seeing each other in recent years, but now they are both superior and subordinate and good friends.
Lin Ziyan readily agreed, "I'll send them to the Lu family then."
She did not ask for the addresses of the two leaders.
She asked what she should ask, and kept her mouth shut about what she shouldn't ask; even curiosity had its boundaries.
"You still haven't told me what the glass factory is called," Cen Ning asked hurriedly.
"Guangyao Glass." Lin Ziyan took out a business card from her purse and handed it to him.
The glass used in Hairun Science and Technology Park was all purchased from Guangyao.
“This logo…” Cen Ning rubbed his forehead, a fine layer of cold sweat breaking out on his back.
General Chu glanced at him, his eyes filled with suspicion.
Lin Ziyan silently lit a candle for Minister Cen, guessing that the glass they bought back from abroad at a high price must also be dazzling.
Guangyao seems to have been one of the first companies to set up factories overseas.
Lin Ziyan thought that after this, the country might have to conduct a major industrial assessment.
Who knows, the initial assessment might bring a big surprise?
She found the idea quite exciting: the preliminary investigation was over, and the company holding her back was from her own country?
In the evening, I returned home.
After taking a shower, Lin Ziyan went straight to the study.
"Are you going on a business trip?" She knocked on the door before going in, and asked casually when she saw the suitcase next to her.
Lu Yunshen nodded, "I'll be away on a business trip for a week."
Actually, he wasn't sure either. The information his uncle had found was too urgent, but Qi Wei's team couldn't bring it out once they got close.
None of them spoke the local dialect.
Lu Yunshen had spent two years in that place, speaking the local dialect, which made people think he was a native.
The information found is very important; it relates to the development of a classified stealth fighter.
"Bring more medicine and repair cream." Lin Ziyan didn't ask any further questions.
This business trip was different from the previous ones; she saw a handgun hidden under her suitcase.
The fact that he was able to bring it home means he's short on time and probably has to leave tonight.
"Please keep an eye on Tengyun for now. Yang Yanzhou doesn't understand technology, so he can't manage it," Lu Yunshen said softly, pulling her into his arms.
This trip is very dangerous, but he signed a confidentiality agreement and can't say anything.
Lin Ziyan nodded, pursed her lips, and slipped the Buddhist prayer beads off her wrist to put on his hand.
When the old lady returned home from the hospital, she gave the Buddhist beads back to her, saying that she no longer needed them.
Lu Yunshen felt the warmth on his wrist and looked at the prayer beads with a puzzled expression.
"Come back safely, we'll be waiting for you at home," Lin Ziyan said earnestly.
Some things have to be done by someone, and she couldn't stop him from completing the task he wanted to do.
Without those who sacrificed their lives, the country would not have the peace it enjoys today.
Lin Ziyan understood him and respected and supported his decision.
Lu Yun Shen nodded solemnly. No matter how dangerous it was, he had to go. There were many teammates waiting for him there.
Their maritime mission was already halfway complete; now he was going to complete the final half.
Some people have already hidden in the seabed; what they cannot complete, others will step forward to finish.
Two hours later,
Lin Ziyan stood on the terrace, watching Lu Yunshen's receding figure, lost in thought.
She remembered the important things that happened this year...
Perhaps this is the mission Lu Yunshen is about to carry out; that squad... was completely wiped out.
Lin Ziyan felt a chill run through her body. "It shouldn't be..."
She kept trying to comfort herself, but the chill that rose from the bottom of her heart did not dissipate, making her teeth chatter.
…
After getting into the car, Lu Yunshen headed straight for the airport.
Yang Yanzhou drove the car, flooring the accelerator, and the car sped along the newly built highway.
Darkness enveloped the entire city, and the wind carried a faint salty, fishy smell and moisture.
