After the New Year's Eve dinner, the Lu family has the custom of staying up all night to welcome the new year.
Lin Ziyan took a nap in the afternoon, but couldn't sleep at night, so she stayed up with everyone to welcome the New Year.
Grandma gave her a red envelope and told her to put it under her pillow at night.
Lu Cheng suggested playing mahjong, so the butler brought out the mahjong set.
Lin Ziyan only knows the rules, she doesn't know any skills, and she doesn't want to use her brain in this kind of entertainment activity.
Finally, Lu Yunshen sat behind her, and when she couldn't make up her mind, Lu Yunshen helped her.
Lu Qiuying didn't ask Xiao Jin for help, but Xiao Jin sat behind her.
Lu Cheng and Lu Ying exchanged glances, both feeling quite full.
Just before midnight, the group stopped and went to the door to watch the fireworks.
In the following days, many people came to the Lu family to offer New Year's greetings, and they also went to other families to offer New Year's greetings.
Grandma and Grandma Lan took Jiaojiao and the others to the temple fair.
People squeeze together just for the fun of it.
Time flies, and soon it was the sixth day of the month for the banquet.
Lin Ziyan put on light makeup and wore her previous wedding dress.
She doesn't need to stand at the hotel entrance to greet guests; she can simply rest and wait for them to be seated before offering them a toast.
Everything was kept simple; even giving a speech on stage was omitted.
Lu Qiuying sat down with her in the lounge and chatted.
Lin Ziyan kept dozing off.
"Ayan, I feel like you've been sleeping a lot lately?" Lu Qiuying asked suspiciously.
He sleeps a lot, eats little, and avoids mutton.
During the few days of the Lunar New Year, apart from the first day when everyone gathered together for a meal, the rest of the days were spent visiting friends and exchanging New Year's greetings. Most of the meals were eaten out.
The more Lu Qiuying thought about it, the more she felt that Lin Ziyan had been acting strangely lately.
She used to love eating mutton hot pot, but this time when she came to Beijing, she didn't touch a single piece of mutton.
It seems her brother didn't eat either; he hasn't even gone to gatherings this year.
Lin Ziyan glanced at the door; her two younger sisters had already gone outside to play with the other children, leaving only the two of them in the lounge.
"I'm pregnant. We found out at the hospital on the morning of New Year's Eve," Lin Ziyan said softly.
Lu Qiuying's eyes widened, and she was stunned for several seconds. "Why were you still keeping this from me?"
"To be honest, I can't possibly have a proper New Year's celebration," Lin Ziyan said with a sly smile.
Lu Qiuying pursed her lips; it might really not be possible.
No wonder the two of them stay at home all day and don't even go to temple fairs.
"But if you keep this a secret, what will you do when you're toasting later?" Lu Qiuying frowned.
Lin Ziyan raised an eyebrow. "I'm allergic to alcohol."
She had already come up with this excuse.
People in Beijing have such a high alcohol tolerance, so she had already told Lu Yunshen that she wouldn't drink when toasted.
Lu Qiuying nodded, thinking that this way the guests wouldn't be put in a difficult position.
Inside the banquet hall,
Most of the guests were seated.
The host briefly explained the process on stage but did not give a speech.
The Lu family wedding only included the newlyweds toasting each other.
The Chen family sat at one table, and even Wag came.
Chen Niaoshu's gaze followed Lu Yunshen's direction, and she saw him weaving through the crowd, talking quietly to his friend.
"It seems the Lu family doesn't value this granddaughter-in-law much; they even skipped the speech," Old Master Chen sarcastically remarked.
Chen Kunsheng picked up his wine glass and chatted warmly with the person next to him.
Many people from various military and political departments attended the Lu family's wedding banquet.
Today is the last day of the holiday, and everyone is taking the opportunity to wish their leaders a Happy New Year.
Chen Kunsheng introduced Wag to many department heads, expanding his network of contacts.
"Shushu, stop looking. If Wag finds out, things will get messy," Chen Niaoshu's mother, Liao Dongmei, tugged at her sleeve and whispered.
Old Master Chen leaned back and looked at the tables near the stage, where several people sat, people he couldn't possibly curry favor with.
The Lu family only hosted a banquet for twenty tables, but every table was full, and at least ten of them were occupied by high-ranking officials from various departments.
Old Master Chen squinted, secretly alarmed. He hadn't realized that the Lu family had already left the Chen family so far behind.
As he was deep in thought, the door to the banquet hall opened, and several guards surrounded a man as they strode into the room.
The previously noisy banquet hall instantly fell silent.
Commander Chu?
Everyone was shocked; they never expected to see such high-ranking officials, usually only seen on television, at the Lu family's wedding banquet.
Commander Chu walked directly to the main table and bowed to an elderly man sitting there.
Everyone craned their necks to look at the main table, trying to guess the old man's identity.
Chen Niaoshu's pupils dilated in shock as she looked at the table in disbelief.
"Shushu, do you know that old lady?" Old Master Chen asked, frowning as he looked at her expression.
“That’s Lin Ziyan’s grandmother. How could she know Commander Chu…” Chen Niaoshu replied in a low voice, unable to control her expression in shock.
Meanwhile, at the main table...
"Aunt Lin, the IOU I wrote back then is still valid. You can redeem it at any time." Commander Chu's voice trembled as he held the old woman's hand, his eyes moist.
Lin Atai said calmly, "You've already paid it back."
Commander Chu paused for a few seconds, recalling what she had said when she handed him the gold bars.
As long as the war can be stopped, we'll be even...
“But now we have the ability to repay…” Commander Chu paused.
"Your IOU saved the Lin family. If we really want to calculate it, I still owe you a favor." Lin Atai's face was full of wrinkles. She looked at the old woman with gray hair in front of her and her eyes flickered slightly.
Time waits for no one; the spirited young man of yesteryear is now gray-haired.
“We are all blessed people, don’t stand, sit down quickly,” Lin Atai continued.
Commander Chu was reminded of his fallen comrades by her words, and his nose tingled and his eyes welled up with tears.
