The chubby girl looked at her notes for a while, then felt like dozing off.
The sound of rain outside gave her the illusion of a lullaby.
"Smack!"
The chubby girl's head slammed directly into the back of the chair.
She instantly woke up, and most of her drowsiness vanished.
"Ayan, have you fed the shrimp larvae?" The chubby girl simply put her notebook aside and asked curiously.
She looked at the shrimp larvae in the pond; they were noticeably more active than yesterday.
Lin Ziyan told her to open the notebook and look at the first page about raising shrimp larvae.
The chubby girl's eyes lit up. She figured that if she combined the notes with real-life examples, the effect would be doubled.
Lin Ziyan shook her head. The only way to deal with the problem of wanting to sleep while reading is to use her hands more and combine her brain and hands.
She thought of the county town again, and a glint flashed in her eyes.
…
At the other end of the village is Wei Er's house.
Wei Sheng was leaning back in his recliner, dozing off.
He was woken up early in the morning to have breakfast, but it was raining heavily and he couldn't go out.
After he finished eating, he lay on the bamboo chair and read a storybook. Before long, his eyes started to droop and he fell asleep.
The scenes in his dream were so beautiful that even though he could vaguely hear his father yelling and cursing, he didn't want to wake up.
"Bang!"
The door slammed shut, and Wei Sheng was jolted awake.
"Eat and sleep, even a pig is more useful than you." Wei Er cursed, his face flushed, showing he had just drunk some alcohol.
Li Zhaodi muttered under her breath, "He started drinking first thing in the morning, and then he became a drunken madman, like a rabid dog..."
Wei Er took off his plastic slippers and slammed them hard against Li Zhaodi's calf.
"You've really grown bold, daring to talk back to me!" He raised his voice, as if a floodgate had been opened.
"Get out of the way." Wei Er pulled his son up.
Wei Sheng smelled a strong odor of alcohol, along with a foul stench.
He was pulled so hard that he stumbled and fell off the eaves, landing on the wet ground.
"They're all useless; they can't even handle the smallest things."
"You're hopeless. We pushed you up there, but you accomplished nothing and only brought trouble upon yourself," Wei Er continued to mutter.
He squinted at his son, who was standing there dumbfounded, and his anger surged up again.
After finally getting the report letter to the county town and asking the higher-ups to send someone to investigate Lin Ziyan, it all came to nothing.
Now he doesn't dare to go out. People in the village are talking about his family, saying they are traitors and bully the Lin family.
Wei Er wasn't afraid of being scolded, but he was afraid that with his son at the age of marriage, with such a bad reputation, which family would be willing to marry their daughter to him in the future?
In Fukushi, people are much more cautious about choosing a son-in-law than a daughter-in-law.
"You went crazy this early in the morning after drinking some dog pee, even pushing your son. You've got some baijiu, I can't take this anymore..."
After Li Zhaodi finished speaking, she wailed loudly, so loudly that it could be heard several houses away.
Wei Er felt dizzy, and the veins on his temples were throbbing.
Before he fell asleep, he thought he had to think of another way to trick the Lin family's daughter into marrying him.
In contrast to the chaos at Wei Er's house, the Lin family was filled with laughter and joy.
Lin Ziyan couldn't stand being pestered by her third sister any longer, so she agreed to make her candied sweet potatoes.
The chubby girl helped peel the sweet potato, constantly swallowing her saliva, and asked, "Ayan, what is candied sweet potato?"
Jiaojiao's eyes lit up, and she raised her hand, "Fat sister, the candied sweet potatoes you made are delicious!"
After she finished speaking, she looked expectant.
"First fry the sweet potato chunks until cooked, then caramelize the sugar..." Lin Ziyan reached out and pinched Jiao Jiao's chubby cheeks.
In this day and age, nobody eats that much fried food.
Fortunately, the Lin family never lacked oil or rice; otherwise, even a skilled cook would be powerless to cook without rice.
Since her grandmother wouldn't nag her, Lin Ziyan didn't hold back.
However, she couldn't bear to throw away the oil used to fry the sweet potatoes, so she ladled it out to use when cooking other dishes.
"Fat sister, candied sweet potato...it's really delicious!" Jiaojiao was trying to pull her companions along, but she deliberately kept her voice down so that her grandmother, who was cutting paper outside, wouldn't hear.
The chubby girl swallowed again, her anticipation growing.
Actually, she doesn't really like sweet potatoes; she used to be tired of eating them.
When we ate sweet potatoes all day and had no rice to eat, the whole family took turns farting, filling the house with a foul smell.
"That's enough, you don't need to peel so many sweet potatoes." Lin Ziyan rubbed her forehead as she watched the chubby girl peeling them.
She thought, since there are so many peeled sweet potatoes, why not boil some sweet potato soup? That way, Grandma can have some too, and it'll be perfect for a rainy day.
Then, Lin Ziyan started washing the pot and pouring in the oil. When the oil was about 50% hot, she put the sweet potato chunks coated with dry starch into the oil to fry.
After five minutes, they were taken out and, after a while, the oil was heated again and they were fried again.
Finally, drain the oil, add sugar and stir-fry to make syrup, then add the fried sweet potatoes and stir-fry. After less than a minute, remove them from the pan, and the candied sweet potatoes are ready.
The chubby girl reached out and grabbed a piece, which burned her so much that she cried out repeatedly, but she didn't let go. She took a few bites of the candied sweet potato and looked very satisfied.
"It's delicious..." she said as she ate.
Jiaojiao didn't dare to reach out and grab it, especially since it was fresh out of the pot. She swallowed hard, stared at it for a while, and only after making sure it wasn't too hot to handle did she pick it up and eat it.
Lin Ziyan was already washing the pot and boiling water to make sweet potato soup.
She prefers sweet potato soup to candied sweet potatoes.
The sweet potatoes nowadays have a rich, sweet flavor, are soft and delicious, and the aroma they release when cooked can make your neighbor's mouth water.
Unbeknownst to Lin Ziyan, Aunt Huang's youngest son next door was already causing a ruckus.
The aroma of fried sweet potatoes wafted to the neighbors, whetting the appetites of not only the children but also the adults.
"Fatty, you can take some sweet potato soup home later, and I'll take some to Aunt Huang's house next door."
After Lin Ziyan finished cooking, she took a bowl from the wooden cabinet, ladled out a bowl for her grandmother, and said something before leaving the room.
The chubby girl nodded and started eating the candied sweet potato.
"Leave a few pieces for Second Sister." Jiaojiao propped herself up on a small stool, took out a small bowl, and put a few pieces of candied sweet potato into it.
The chubby girl said, "Jiaojiao, will you be my little sister? I'll trade you my little brother Ergouzi."
Jiaojiao shook her head vigorously, "No!"
Her soft voice rose to a higher pitch, but remained gentle and sweet.
The chubby girl thought to herself, "My younger sister is better. She thinks about saving food for her older sister, while my younger brother only knows how to snatch food."
Her gaze towards Jiaojiao became even more intense.
Jiaojiao grabbed a piece of candied sweet potato and ran out in a flash.
Lin Ziyan returned to the kitchen and saw Jiaojiao running out the door. She called out to her several times but she didn't turn around, as if someone was chasing her.
"I'll take the sweet potato soup back first, then come over. I need to grind some seaweed powder for the shrimp larvae in a bit."
After Lin Ziyan finished speaking, she took out a large bowl and filled it with water.
The chubby girl licked the sugar strands off her fingers and said, "Raising shrimp is more troublesome than raising piglets."
Feeding the shrimp in the morning, recording the data, preparing shrimp food, preparing medicine powder, and looking for water fleas...
The chubby girl counted on her fingers, and then a bunch of black lines appeared in front of her eyes.
So busy…
"Stop muttering, making money is never easy," Lin Ziyan tugged at her sleeve, urging her to take her things and leave.
She had just stepped out when Lin Ziyan followed her out, but went in the opposite direction.
Lin Ziyan walked to Aunt Huang's door, put her umbrella aside, and knocked on the door.
"Creak!"
"Who is it?" a childish male voice came from inside.
