Chapter 106: Fellow Villagers Meet Fellow Villagers
"Xiaoye."
Ling Chao saw Ye Jiawen from afar, leaned out of the car window, waved at her vigorously, and called out to her loudly.
Ye Jiawen stopped and waited for Ling Chao's car to stop beside him, then walked up to him and greeted him, "Hello, Uncle Ling."
"Hey, hello to you too."
Ling Chao asked Ye Jiawen with a smile: "Xiao Ye, are you going to Lao Yue's house?"
Ye Jiawen nodded, raised his wrist and looked at his watch: "Uncle Yue invited our family to visit today. I have something to do at school, so I'm a little late for this."
"It's not too late, study is the priority."
Ling Chao stepped aside and gave up his position in front of the car door: "Come on, I'll take you there. I just happened to be going to Lao Yue to discuss something, so it's on the way."
Ye Jiawen didn't act pretentiously and got into the car happily: "Thank you, Uncle Ling."
"You're welcome."
When they arrived at the gate of Yue's courtyard, Ling Chao and Ye Jiawen got out of the car and saw other children playing with sandbags. Huo Jiusi and Qin Feng were standing on both sides of Yaya's cart.
Huo Jiusi took some grass and with his fingers flying, he made a little rabbit.
Qin Feng was fanning Yaya with a large cattail leaf fan.
"Bud."
Ling Chao walked forward and picked up Yaya, then raised his chin towards her: "Do you still remember Grandpa Ling?"
Yaya's eyes curved and she shook her little fist at Ling Chao to show that she remembered.
Ling Chao laughed heartily: "Hahaha, hey, Yaya still remembers Grandpa Ling? Grandpa Ling must be so happy."
"Look, what did Grandpa Ling bring you?" Ling Chao took out a small stuffed cat from his pocket and waved it in front of Yaya: "Do you like it, Yaya?"
Yaya's eyes lit up and she shook her little fist vigorously.
Ling Chao put the ragdoll cat in Yaya's arms. Yaya hugged it tightly with her two little arms and giggled happily.
"Yaya is so smart." Ling Chao gently tapped Yaya's little nose.
The more he looked at Yaya, the more he liked her, and the more jealous he became.
Yue Guohuai was promoted to another level, but he was not jealous because that was what he deserved.
But how could such a good and well-behaved child belong to him?
He has three grandsons and two grandsons-in-law, but he doesn't have a baby girl in his family.
He also wants a granddaughter, a granddaughter as well-behaved, sensible and smart as Yaya.
Ling Chao thought about it and couldn't help but turn his head to look at Ye Jiawen beside him.
Ye Jiawen didn't understand what was going on. She felt uneasy when Ling Chao stared at her. She raised her hand and touched her face: "Uncle Ling, is there something on my face?"
"No, no."
Ling Chao waved his hands awkwardly and turned his gaze back to Yaya: "Yaya, if you like this little doll, I'll bring you another one when Grandpa Ling comes to see you, okay?"
Yaya grabbed Ling Chao's fingers and shook them, which made Ling Chao so cute that he almost lost his mind. He was still grinning and laughing until he entered the house.
"Old Ling, what's wrong? Did you eat magpie eggs?" Huo Yingnian teased Ling Chao.
"Go to hell, you fox, you can't spit out ivory from a dog's mouth, you just ate the magpie's eggs."
After Ling Chao scolded Huo Yingnian with a smile, he looked at Ye Yunlin and motioned Yue Guohuai to introduce him: "Old Yue, who is this brother?"
"This is Jiawen's father, and Zhiqiu's second uncle, Ye Yunlin. He was one of the first educated youths from Beijing who volunteered to go to the border areas. He later settled down there and stayed in the Great Northern Wilderness."
Yue Guohuai knew that Ling Chao had rushed back specifically to meet Ye Yunlin and Li Shuying. If Ling Hang could marry Ye Jiawen in the future, their two families would become relatives, and it would be good for both parties to get to know each other in advance.
Therefore, he tried his best to speak well of Ling Chao: "Yunlin, this is my old comrade Ling Chao. We both live in this compound now, and we are neighbors. His son Ling Hang and Mingyuan are childhood friends, and they are in the same squadron."
"Brother Ye, nice to meet you."
Ling Chao stepped forward and took the initiative to extend his hand to Ye Yunlin. Ye Yunlin quickly stood up and held Ling Chao's hand: "Brother Ling."
"Why!"
Ling Chao responded readily and sat down next to Ye Yunlin.
Ye Yunlin couldn't help but ask Ling Chao: "Brother Ling, are you from Heilongjiang Province? I heard your accent is quite similar to ours."
Ling Chao was very excited: "That's right, I am the one with the lump, I just want to have a good chat with you, Brother Ye."
"I'm from Jilouzi Village. Do you know this place?"
"How could I not know? My wife is from Jilouzi Village."
Ye Yunlin didn't expect that he would not only meet a fellow villager, but also a fellow villager from the same village. He quickly called out to Li Shuying, "Shuying, come here quickly. This Brother Ling is also from Jilouzi Village."
But after he said that, he realized something was wrong. There were not many people in Jilouzitun, and he knew them all, but no one had the surname Ling.
Li Shuying came over, looked Ling Chao up and down, and asked directly: "Brother Ling, who are you related to?"
"I used to be from Jilouzitun, but now there's no one I know there."
Ling Chao sighed: "Back then, the Japanese slaughtered all of our villagers. I was lucky enough to survive. I joined the army after crawling out of the pile of dead bodies, and I have never been back since then."
These words suddenly made the atmosphere heavy.
"It's time to eat. Man is like iron and food is like steel. Whether you want to reminisce or talk about business, wait until after dinner." Wan Jiayin called to everyone.
After dinner, Ling Chao chatted with Ye Yunlin and Li Shuying for a while. The two of them also heard from Ling Chao's words that he had taken a fancy to his daughter and wanted to match Ye Jiawen with his son Ling Hang.
The two were happy to see this happen, but they also stated their principles as parents that they would not force Ye Jiawen and everything would be based on her wishes.
Ling Chao had something else to do, so he left first, leaving them to continue chatting in the study.
Ye Yunlin talked about how Yue Mingyuan asked him to transform the milk powder factory.
Huo Yingnian expressed his opinion: "Xiao Ye, Mingyuan's suggestion is very good. In the future, state-owned enterprises will also be responsible for their own profits and losses. We are no longer implementing a planned economy, but a market economy, so we must withstand the test of the market."
"To put it bluntly, it's survival of the fittest. In the future, only companies that adapt to market rules and win in market competition will survive."
"If private enterprises are successful, then they will be the boss. If state-owned enterprises are not successful, then they are destined to be eliminated."
"We were too isolated in the past. Facts have proved that the planned economy does not work. If we want to enhance our national strength, we must transform."
Huo Yingnian's words made Ye Yunlin more confident in the transformation. He mentioned some aspects that Yue Mingyuan and Shen Zhiqiu had said, and he had read some books recently and had some ideas of his own.
"I think we can't just copy the foreign formula. We have to make milk powder that suits our own constitution. If we do that, we'll just be like a parrot. We need to have real skills ourselves."
"Xiao Ye, this is a good idea."
