Zhou Changshun: "Alright, thank you for your trouble, brother. I've been at the hospital these past few nights and haven't been able to see a doctor."
"Hasn't your lawyer investigated this thoroughly yet? We need to conduct a follow-up interview in the next few days," the host asked.
"Not yet. Guan Xiaoyu has been abroad for too long, and it's difficult to check her overseas transactions." Zhou Changshun felt that the host was one of his own, so he didn't hide anything.
Host: "You still need to check those from overseas?"
Zhou Changshun: "The lawyer said he would check whether Guan Xiaoyu has any assets abroad, and whether the living expenses her adoptive parents give her match her spending. If they don't match, he would check whether someone in China transferred the money to her. Perhaps the old man transferred it through someone else."
"You guys are quite meticulous. Well then, let me know when you've figured it out, and I'll do a follow-up interview." The host was thinking, why is it taking so long to check an account? This guy even has to check overseas accounts, but he hasn't even figured out the domestic ones yet.
"It'll only be a day or two. The old man's house is going to be demolished soon. Would you like to go with him then?" With a notarized document, the host could go or not, so Zhou Changshun asked casually.
The host, of course, had to go over; the ratings were what they were after. "I'll go over and film the ending."
Zhou Changshun: "Okay, it should be within the next couple of days, brother. Go back and ask around for me what's going on. Everyone's cursing me out now."
The host waved dismissively and left. Why did I scold you? Why don't you watch TV yourself? You were probably too busy dreaming of getting rich.
That day, Zhou Changshun's lawyer contacted him. Xiaoyu's finances abroad were very simple. She worked part-time while studying, and no one except the Li family had ever sent her money.
There was no interaction between Old Man Guan and the Li family's accounts.
Guan Xiaoyu owns a house, which was transferred to her name by Li Xingye after she returned to China. This property has absolutely nothing to do with Old Man Guan.
After finishing with Guan Xiaoyu's story, the lawyer paused for a moment, then asked, "Mr. Zhou, are you sure the house your stepfather is moving out of is his?"
"I'm sure, that's his house. He's lived there for decades. What's wrong?" Zhou Changshun had a bad feeling and was so nervous that he couldn't even breathe properly.
"According to my investigation, Guan Wanshan has no assets under his name. Did you confirm the ownership before you went to have it notarized?" the lawyer said in a deep voice.
"Impossible! I've already asked the neighborhood committee; that house is definitely his!" Zhou Changshun raised his voice.
The lawyer frowned. "Alright then, let's go to the neighborhood committee office now."
Zhou Changshun hurriedly agreed, hung up the phone, and couldn't help but shiver. That house must belong to the old man. Zhou Changshun comforted himself and hurriedly went to the street.
When Zhou Changshun arrived, the lawyer was already there.
"Let's go in." Neither of them had time for idle chatter. The lawyer was paid according to the amount of the case, otherwise he wouldn't have gone to such lengths to investigate Xiaoyu's overseas spending.
Zhou Changshun found the clerk in charge of Guanlaotou Hutong.
"Officer Li, you're busy, right? Has the relocation started in this area?" Zhou Changshun took a deep breath and forced a smile as he greeted him.
Xiao Li looked up and glanced at Zhou Changshun, not knowing him well, and said, "Yeah."
Zhou Changshun: "Hey Xiao Li, could you help me check how many square meters my stepfather's house is registered in? My stepfather fell a few days ago and is in the hospital. He heard they're going to demolish it and he's really worried, so he asked me to come and take a look."
"Oh, okay, what's the homeowner's name?" The residents actually know their own area; it was already told to them when it was measured. But older people are just not at ease and always want to ask again, which is not unusual.
"Guan Wanshan, No. 258 Yushu Hutong," Zhou Changshun said, his lips trembling and his palms sweating with nervousness.
