The old lady smiled and nodded. "That's good, you have quite a few brothers. Are your elderly family members in good health?"
"My father is in good health, but my mother's health is not very good." Song Shiyu answered one by one.
"The capital is so far away from Yun Province. Do you agree that you should stay here?" the old man interjected.
Song Shiyu: "I am now settled in the capital, I can bring my son over. The capital is under the feet of the emperor, it is better than my hometown."
The old man drooped his eyelids and said, "Is that any better? There's no electricity in the mountains over there."
"You are a filial son. Are you divorced or widowed?" the old lady praised.
"I am a divorced mother with two sons, the older one is 20 and the younger one is 16."
The old lady's heart sank. "What about studying?"
Song Shiyu: "No, my children are not good at studying. Let me start a small business."
The old lady glanced at Fenglan, who lowered her head, not daring to look at the old lady.
"So how long have you been in the capital? Have the children come here?"
"Grandma, I've been here for more than two months. I came to check out the market. The children haven't come yet. They'll come over after I settle down."
"What are you planning to do?" After more than two months of not understanding the food market, the old lady wanted to ask what big business he was planning to do.
"Grandma, he is planning to open a store..." Fenglan wanted to answer for Song Shiyu.
The old lady glared at Fenglan, and she swallowed the rest of her words.
Song Shiyu glanced at the old lady. He didn't expect that the old lady had so much say in the family. Fenglan's parents didn't say anything, so it seemed that the old lady was the one asking questions.
"Grandma, I'm in the medicinal materials business and want to open a pharmacy in Beijing."
"It's good to do the medicinal materials business. You must have a lot of good medicines on hand. They can save lives at critical moments." The old lady seemed very satisfied.
"I've seen some good things, but I'm not well-off, so I haven't saved any good things." Song Shiyu spoke without a single leak.
"That's such a pity. Today we have a family banquet to see off two college students. You should come with us." The old lady stopped asking questions, glanced at Song Shiyu who came to buy things, and asked everyone to leave together.
Song Shiyu and Fenglan walked behind.
Song Shiyu: "Isn't your grandma simple?"
Fenglan didn't understand what Song Shiyu meant. "My grandma is quite powerful. I've been afraid of her since I was a child."
"Your parents seem easy to talk to, don't they?" Song Shiyu asked tentatively.
Fenglan nodded reluctantly... Her mother was even harder to talk to than her grandmother, while her father was easy to talk to, but her words didn't count.
Song Shiyu knew that the old lady was not satisfied with his conditions. Her last look showed that she thought his gift was too light. He said nothing more and followed the family.
Chunni followed the old lady and said, "Grandma, my eldest sister is doing business with this man, but he is so stingy, not as good as my eldest brother-in-law before." There are grandparents, grandparents and children at home, so she just took some bananas and apples. It's okay to take these things for a normal visit, but this is her first time visiting, so she doesn't have much to offer.
Manman’s father had a very difficult time back then, as he had to buy meat every time he visited.
"Let's wait until the children go to school," the old lady was unwilling to say more.
Xiaoyu Manman is the protagonist today and sits next to the old man and the old lady.
While waiting for the food to be served, the old man took out two thick red envelopes and said, "I told you that as long as the children in my family can get into college, I will pay for all the expenses. Manman and Xiaoyu are promising. They both go to top universities and don't have to pay tuition. It saves me the money. Xiaoyu and Manman, take this as a token of your appreciation. Buy whatever you like."
"Thank you, sir."
"Thank you, great-grandfather"
The two little girls accepted the thick red envelopes without hesitation.
"You can't slack off in your university studies. Learn more knowledge and serve the country." The older generation is patriotic in their bones.
"I will try my best!" Manman gave an unstandard military salute, which made everyone laugh.
