She nervously returned to her room, locked the door, sat on the bed for a moment, then opened the door again, took off her clothes, turned off the light, and lay in bed, feeling both scared and expectant.
Yan Xi slept fitfully through the night, and nothing happened. She was woken up by a knock on the door. Old Master Yun asked her to make breakfast.
Yan Xi hurriedly dressed, quickly washed up, and went to cook.
The middle-aged man came over at noon to deliver some ingredients, and then left without speaking to Yan Xi.
This went on for a week, and Yan Xi seemed to understand something. When she was working, Old Man Yun's eyes were always fixed on her. This wasn't a middle-aged man's home; he was the one responsible for Old Man Yun's life.
It was obvious what she was there for. Looking at Old Man Yun's wrinkled and age-spotted face, Yan Xi felt extremely disgusted. Just thinking about the old man lying next to her made her hair stand on end. How could someone of that age get pregnant? How much suffering would it take to conceive her?
Yan Xi, who used to sleep without locking the door a few days ago, has started locking it at night. She wakes up immediately at the slightest noise and regrets it; she doesn't want to do that anymore.
Her family has taken the money and won't care whether she lives or dies. Even if she runs home, she'll be sent back. She's penniless, what should she do?
Yan Xi spent another week in fear and anxiety, but the thing she feared did not happen. Just when she was starting to relax, one night she heard a knock on the door and someone pushing it open from the outside.
Yan Xi was so frightened that she trembled and wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, not daring to make a sound. Fortunately, the door was only pushed a few times before the other person left.
Yan Xi was wide awake and didn't sleep all night.
The next day, she didn't dare to look at Elder Yun and kept avoiding him. At noon, the middle-aged man came over, put out the ingredients, and looked at Yan Xi, who seemed listless, and asked, "You lock the door when you sleep?"
Yan Xi smiled awkwardly. "Yeah, who doesn't lock their door when they sleep?"
The middle-aged man's face was expressionless, his eyes fixed on Yan Xi. "You're a smart man; you should know why you're here, right?"
Yan Xi flinched slightly. "I'm here to be a nanny."
The middle-aged man chuckled. "Then you can go home now. We don't need a nanny here."
Yan Xi...
Middle-aged man: "If you're not willing, there are plenty of others who are. It's not like I can't live without you. Go pack your things now."
Yan Xi bit her lip, her eyes red as she stared at the middle-aged man. "I'm doing a good job. I'm not leaving. I have nowhere to go."
When I went back to my older sister's house, she didn't get away with it.
"We don't need a nanny here. If you want to stay here, you should know what you're supposed to do," the middle-aged man said calmly.
Tears streamed down Yan Xi's face as she bit her lip hard.
The middle-aged man met her gaze, waiting for an answer.
Yan Xi suddenly hugged the middle-aged man
The middle-aged man was startled and quickly turned to look at the doorway, whispering a scolding, "Let go, what are you doing?"
"Take me or I'll give myself to you." Yan Xi felt ashamed, but it was better than being with the old man.
"Let go, or Elder Yun will see that we're both finished!" The middle-aged man forcefully pried Yan Xi apart; he didn't want to lose his job.
Yan Xi burst into tears and collapsed to the ground.
The middle-aged man angrily straightened his clothes. "Don't you know why you're here? Stop pretending to be stupid. If things go well, Elder Yun won't treat you unfairly. Stop thinking nonsense."
Yan Xi shook his head vigorously.
“If you don’t want to, go home. Old Master Yun won’t force you. But you know your family’s situation. If I take you back, I’m afraid your family won’t take you in. Think about it carefully.” After saying that, the middle-aged man quickly left the kitchen.
