"Uncle Ge, Aunt Yuan, our area is going to be relocated!" the loudspeaker announced excitedly.
"They've been making this up for years, saying they'll move it today, they'll move it tomorrow," Grandpa Ge said nonchalantly. They've been saying their area would be relocated since the 1990s, but it's been over ten years and nothing has happened.
"This time it's for real! The street office will issue a document soon; it's confirmed that a large shopping mall will be built in our area," the loudspeaker announced excitedly.
Aunt Yuan: "Are you really going to move?"
The loudspeaker announced, "It's true! I asked the street director, and the developer has already planned everything. As soon as we move in, they'll start building immediately."
"Auntie, is it really going to be relocated?" Jiang Fen came out of the house when she heard the noise.
"This time it's for real, it's finally our turn!" the loudspeaker chuckled.
"Can we move back here?" Jiang Fen asked with concern.
The loudspeaker announced: "Even if we're relocated, we'll be to the suburbs. I think it's better to just accept the money. We can buy wherever we want. It's so convenient to live in the city. Moving to the far suburbs makes even buying groceries inconvenient."
Jiang Fen: "Yes, it's best to live around here. It's convenient for the kids to go to school. I don't know how much money we can afford, but we're wondering if we can buy a bigger one around here."
"We won't leave even if you give us less. These are all privately owned houses. If we don't leave, the developers can't do anything to us. Zhi Qiu, Zhi Qiu, we're going to be relocated. This time it's for real!" The loudspeaker shouted into the backyard.
"Is this time guaranteed to be authentic?" Wu Zhiqi asked with a smile as he came over from the backyard.
"It's true, it's true! I even went to the neighborhood committee to ask, and people have been coming over to persuade us these past few days!" The loudspeaker laughed so hard her eyes were almost invisible. Her youngest son and his family all lived with her. The house only had two rooms, and it was incredibly cramped.
Over the years, all the money I've earned has been used to buy houses for the two grandsons left by my eldest son. This house will go to my younger son so that his family can have more space when the land is redeveloped.
"So this time it's really going to happen. Do you want to move back or do you want money?" Wu Zhiqi has moved a lot of houses she bought in the past few years, plus her shares in the logistics company. Now she is rolling in money. Her second and third sons have been struggling all these years, but they don't have as many assets as she does.
"Is your family moving back?" Grandpa Ge asked expectantly.
"It depends on where they relocate to. It's too much of a scam. I don't really want to go there. It's inconvenient to go out," Wu Zhiqi said bluntly.
“Auntie, let’s live together again then. We’ve lived together for so many years, I’m used to it, and I can’t live without you.” Jiang Fen understood that Grandpa Ge and Aunt Yuan didn’t want to be separated from them. She also felt that everyone in the courtyard was very kind and helped each other, like family.
Wu Zhiqi: "Sure, it's still more comfortable for us old neighbors to live together."
"Then let's live together again," the loudspeaker laughed.
Grandpa Ge and Aunt Yuan exchanged a glance, relieved.
That evening, Lao San and Li Xingguo both returned home; they had both heard that the area was going to be relocated.
"Mom, after the relocation, you and Dad can come live with me," the third son said expectantly. Although his mother didn't say it, he knew that they had relocated more than ten houses over the years, had a lot of savings, and he was extremely envious of the dividends from the logistics company.
“Your second brother and I aren’t without houses. We can have big houses or apartment buildings if we want. We’ll live wherever Mom and Dad want to live. They’re used to me taking care of them, and they can’t live without me,” Chunni said with a smug smile.
"Second sister-in-law, you've worked hard all these years. Take a break and give us a chance to show our respect." The third brother is quite eloquent now.
“Your family still needs a nanny to take care of them. Are your parents going to your house to enjoy themselves or to become your maids? You can stay out of here,” Chunni said rudely.
Su Mo smiled but didn't say anything; in this respect, she was indeed no match for her second sister-in-law.
