Feng Qianqian: "Auntie, my family is from Shanxi."
Chunni was taken aback and blurted out, "Isn't he from Jiang Province?"
Feng Qianqian was also taken aback, and secretly pinched Da Bao. "No, did you tell Auntie I'm from Jiang Province?"
Da Bao scratched his head. "I remember you told me you were from Jiang Province."
Chunni glared at Dabao. He can't even get the location of his partner right. What a useless guy. But since he's not from Jiang Province, he can't ask for such a high dowry, right?
"My eldest child told me that you also have three children?"
The girl nodded. "I have an older sister and a younger brother. My brother and I were both born in violation of the one-child policy, and we paid a lot of fines back then."
“Back then, the rules were strict. Our three kids almost got fined. We were poor then, and we didn’t have the money to pay the fine,” Chunni chimed in with a smile.
As if knowing what Chunni was worried about, Feng Qianqian continued, "Back in my day, my dad and his brothers ran a small coal mine. They had some money, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to have two more children than allowed."
"Your family is well-off. Do you even own a coal mine?" Chunni asked casually.
"Yes, it's bigger and more formal now," Feng Qianqian briefly showed off her family situation, also because she was afraid that people in Beijing would look down on her as a girl from out of town.
Chunni was surprised that Dabao had found a coal mine owner's daughter. She had been worried that she was a "brother-supporting demon," but it seems she had been overthinking it. She chatted with the girl with a smile about other things.
Feng Qianqian went to university in Beijing. The year she went to university, her family bought her a house in Beijing and also invested in several other properties. She was well-off, and her parents treated her very well.
Chunni felt relieved. As long as he wasn't the kind of guy who clung to girls for a living, the young couple could live a peaceful and stable life after getting married.
The second son sat on one side of the sofa, listening to their conversation without saying a word. He only hoped that his son wouldn't marry someone like his eldest brother; he didn't care about the woman's background.
Da Bao was completely bewildered when he first heard about his girlfriend's family situation. He had assumed that his girlfriend's family was of average means, but he never expected that she was a rich second-generation.
Sanbao looked on with envy. Why couldn't he find a girl who was both beautiful and rich? All the good cabbages were eaten by pigs.
After lunch, the girl said goodbye, and Chunni gave her a large red envelope. Dabao saw the girl off.
"Oh my god, I'm exhausted from wearing this for so long!" Chunni relaxed, realizing her face was stiff from smiling.
"Now you don't have to worry anymore, right? You didn't even dare let anyone go to the new house," the second son said with a smile, appreciating his wife's shrewdness.
"You don't know anything," Chunni said, somewhat embarrassed.
Second brother: "I don't understand, but you do. If they come again next time, will we still come here?"
"What? Do I have to report everything to my future daughter-in-law? Next time I go to the new house, I'm not going to bother with all that trouble," Chunni said, puffing out her chest. She was the mother-in-law; why would she need to explain to her daughter-in-law?
When Chunni was a young wife, her second son was still a child, and now they are about to become parents-in-law.
"Now that you've met the parents, if the girl has no objections, let's start preparing for the wedding. And you should hurry up and have a second child too."
"Dad, where will we live after we get married? Upstairs in the new house?" Sanbao's eyes sparkled.
"None of your business! You haven't graduated yet, don't date anyone!" Chunni shoved Sanbao aside.
Sanbao: "Mom, I'm already twenty-three. You guys my age already have my second brother. Can't I even have a girlfriend?"
