"Your dad's phone is off, try calling again tomorrow." The call went unanswered.
Little Fish didn't believe it, so he picked up his phone and called several times, but it was always switched off.
"Why is my dad's phone off? Why would he turn it off? Doesn't he know I'm worried because I can't find him?" Xiaoyuer said, somewhat exasperated.
The room wasn't soundproof, and Dong Yun's younger brother heard the mother and daughter's conversation. Li Xingguo had been in the hospital for so long, and the child hadn't visited even once. Now he was getting anxious. If he were Li Xingguo, he wouldn't want this spoiled brat.
Li Xingguo didn't ask for custody, and Dong Yun's younger brother had a bad feeling, but he didn't tell Dong Yun. He knew his older sister wouldn't believe him anyway, so he just prayed that Li Xingguo would be angry for now and could take the child away once he recovered.
The next day, before dawn, Xiaoyuer started calling Li Xingguo again. She had been calling him until midnight the night before, but Li Xingguo's phone was still off.
Little Fish didn't sleep well all night. She dreamed of lying in a spacious house, where her grandparents offered her money and begged her to go to an international school, saying that she was the most academically gifted child in the family.
"No, my dad's phone is still off. I'm worried. I have to go check on him." Xiaoyuer sat up and started getting dressed.
Dong Yun quickly got up and said, "Wait a bit. Your dad only went back half a day ago. Once he's settled, he'll definitely be able to pick you up. You can't get in now anyway, so don't go."
Xiaoyuer threw her clothes down hard. "It's all your fault! Why did you insist on having custody of me? If my dad had custody, wouldn't it be only natural for me to go to him? You just want to keep me in your hands and control me for the rest of my life, don't you?"
Dong Yun looked at her daughter in disbelief. "How could you think of me like that? Wasn't my divorce from your father all for your sake? You don't care about me, and yet you say such things about me."
"Don't tell me you've gone to such lengths to kill my dad for my sake. No wonder he's not going to stay with you. My grandparents hate you too. And you still have me in your hands. If you want me to be happy, you should let me be with my dad, not use divorce as an excuse to make me grateful to you!" Xiaoyuer said bluntly. She was young but not stupid, and she understood the implication in Dong Yun's words.
Dong Yun trembled with anger, "If it weren't for you, I would never have agreed to divorce your father. If you're so afraid that I'll make you feel unwelcome, then just sever our mother-daughter relationship!"
Xiaoyuer glared at Dong Yun, "Fine, let's break it off then! I'm going to find my dad!" After saying that, she got dressed, got out of bed, opened the door, and left.
Looking at that heartless figure, Dong Yun covered her face and sobbed.
Little Fish arrived at the neighborhood by taxi, feeling very happy. She knew that her grandparents would be pleased to accept her after hearing that she had severed ties with her mother.
"Uncle security guard, I want to go inside to find my dad."
The newly appointed security guard sighed deeply. This family was truly destined to be with him; they only came when he was on duty.
"Let me ask the homeowner, please wait a moment."
“Tell my second uncle that I’ve cut ties with my mother and have nowhere else to go but to come and stay with my father,” Xiaoyuer immediately added.
The security guard was speechless. "Your dad's in a mental hospital, are you going to go there to seek refuge too?"
The second son, who had just gotten up, frowned deeply when he saw the property management's call. He had already seen Li Xingguo off, so why was they calling so early in the morning?
Chunni glanced at the phone. "Answer it. You think you can communicate with your mind just by looking at each other?"
