Dong Yun wiped away her tears, sobbing uncontrollably. They were just an ordinary family with elderly parents and young children to support. They had already faced a lot of resentment from their family for spending so much money on their sister and brother-in-law's medical treatment, and their eldest sister still didn't understand them.
Dong Yun's eyes widened. "What does Li Xingguo's life or death have to do with you? Why are you giving him money? If the Li family has money, let them have it. Do you have too much money to burn?"
“The Li family? Eldest sister, do you know that you crippled Li Xingguo? He’s a cripple now. The Li family would tear you apart. If we don’t pay the hospital fees, you’ll be in jail right now, and you won’t be out for at least ten or eight years. My younger brother and I have to kowtow to the ground to appease the Li family and Li Xingguo so they won’t pursue this matter.” Dong Yun’s younger sister held her forehead, feeling utterly powerless.
"Why is Li Xingguo suing me? He was the one who tried to kill me, so I fought back. Don't be intimidated by the Li family. Why are you suing me? I'll sue him too!" Dong Yun was so angry that her heart ached. She was about to be beaten to death, and she couldn't even fight back.
Dong Yun's younger sister said, "Even if it was a mutual fight, you acted in excessive self-defense, causing irreversible injuries. My younger brother and I have consulted with others, and the best solution is to reconcile and ask our brother-in-law not to pursue the matter. We're not stupid, nor are we rich. Eldest sister, if you feel it's unnecessary to get involved with Li Xingguo, then we won't interfere."
Dong Yun remained silent, her neck stiff.
"My dad is really useless?" Little Fish climbed out of bed, her eyes wide.
"You're in the hospital, don't you know how your dad is doing?" Dong Yun's sister said irritably.
Little Fish jumped off the bed and ran out of the ward.
"Why did you tell her? What's the point of her knowing these things?" Dong Yun complained again.
Dong Yun's younger sister said, "Even if I don't tell her, won't she ask if she wants to know? Can this kind of thing be kept secret? Her father is in the ICU, and she doesn't even know what's going on, yet she can still sleep. Big sister, you've really raised your child well."
“I can raise my own child however I want, and I don’t need anyone else to tell me what to do. You go and check on Xiaoyuer, make sure nothing happens to her,” Dong Yun said angrily.
"Fine, big sister, this is the last time. From now on, I won't interfere in your family's affairs. You can call me an ingrate all you want." Dong Yun's younger sister was also heartbroken and got up to leave the ward.
When Xiaoyuer inquired at the intensive care unit, he found out that everyone in the hospital knew about it. It wasn't unusual for someone to get sick, but being disabled was unique in the entire hospital.
Xiaoyuer stood blankly in the corridor. Her father had been crippled and was no longer a man. What would she do in the future? Her family would become the biggest joke, and relatives, friends, neighbors, classmates, and teachers would all laugh at her.
"Go back and take care of your mother, I'll go buy food," said Dong Yun's younger sister as she passed by Xiao Yu'er.
"I'm not going! My mom raised you all, so you should take care of her. Why should I take care of her?" Xiaoyuer yelled at Dong Yun's sister.
Dong Yun's younger sister stopped in her tracks. "Didn't your mother raise you? Why don't you take care of her?"
“I am my mother’s daughter, she should raise me. Who are you? She raised you, so you should repay my mother.” Xiaoyuer glared.
“I’m an ungrateful wretch and I won’t repay you. You are your parents’ biological daughter, and you have an obligation to repay them.” Dong Yun’s younger sister shook her head. This child was spoiled and couldn’t distinguish right from wrong.
"I'm not an adult yet, I have no obligation," Xiaoyuer immediately retorted.
"Then let them fend for themselves here," Dong Yun's sister said, turning and going downstairs.
"Hey, don't go! How can you not care? If you don't care, who will?" Xiaoyuer stomped her feet angrily. Dong Yun didn't stop at all. She left the hospital, wiped away her tears, and called her brother. She didn't care anymore. If her brother wanted to care, he could. Call her an ingrate or a heartless wretch if he wanted.
The younger brother was also helpless. His wife was still making a fuss, and now his second sister was making a fuss too. He could only appease his second sister and tell her to bear with it for a few days. His eldest sister's injury would only last a few days before she went home. He told her not to hold a grudge and to just be patient. He would take care of Li Xingguo when he came out, and his second sister wouldn't need to worry about him anymore.
Dong Yun's sister only complained a little, and after venting her anger, she bought food for Dong Yun while wiping away her tears, and then went back to the hospital.
Little Fish was so angry when her aunt left that she left too, ignoring everything. She didn't care either, because she wasn't an adult yet; she was still a child.
Dong Yun saw that her younger sister had returned, but didn't see her daughter, "Where's Xiaoyuer?"
