The village chief flipped through the pages quickly. He couldn't understand the earlier parts, but he knew the summary was at the end, so he flipped directly to the last page.
The old man in the yard, holding a shovel, stared longingly at the village chief.
After seeing the results, the village chief's face turned ashen; he felt his old face burning.
"Village chief, he must be his biological son, right?" The old man still clung to his last shred of hope.
The village chief shook his head. "How did your family end up with such a girl? The child isn't someone else's."
The old man stumbled back a few steps, then plopped down on the ground, tears streaming down his face. His reputation, built up over a lifetime, had been ruined by this girl.
The old man got up and said, "I gave birth to such a wicked child. I am not human. I have let down my ancestors and the Li family. I will atone for my sins with my death!"
The old man rushed toward a large rock in the yard.
By the time those present realized what was happening, the old man was already lying on the ground, his head covered in blood.
The old woman ran out of the house wailing, "I gave birth to such a shameless thing, I don't want to live anymore!"
The old lady also tried to hit the rock, and people outside the yard quickly came in and stopped her.
The old woman knelt on the ground and kowtowed to the Li family, saying, "It's all my fault for giving birth to such a shameless aunt. I'm so sorry! I really didn't know when she was fooling around with other people outside. If I had known, I would never have let her pretend to be a young woman to deceive your family! My husband and I have been upright people all our lives!"
The old woman cried her heart out. She had lived a clean and honest life, but in her old age, this young woman had ruined her reputation.
“I apologize on behalf of their family. I know an apology is useless. A flimsy sentence cannot make up for your family’s sixteen years of sacrifice. But even murder is a death sentence. You can’t really take the old couple’s lives. It’s not their fault that they gave birth to such a girl. Can I ask them to compensate you?” The village chief looked at the old man’s miserable state in the yard and felt sorry for him, but he also understood the Li family’s anger.
“We’re not short of money, but we can’t swallow this insult. Let’s get him to the hospital first,” Li Mantun said, his heart softening at the sight of the elderly couple’s resolute expression.
"Fine, do whatever you want with their girl. Call the police to arrest her, shoot her, whatever you want!" The village chief was seething with hatred.
The Li family was firm but not easily swayed. Seeing that the elderly couple truly knew nothing about it, Li Mantun sighed and called the police.
When the host came over for an interview, the camera only focused on Xingping's ex-wife.
The villagers took the old man to the hospital.
The police came and took the person to the station. This matter can only be resolved through litigation. Xingping's ex-wife's case is a moral issue, which they cannot handle.
The third brother hired someone to distribute the flyers after they were made.
The family arrived home late at night, and the old man and woman were still waiting, already knowing what had happened.
"Xingping, gather evidence these days and file lawsuits if necessary. I know you're feeling down, but that's all I can do. Everything will pass, so let's look forward. You're a strong and upright man now, and your parents are getting old and will rely on you in the future! You can't fall apart," the old man instructed Xingping.
Xingping's eyes were bloodshot. He understood the reasoning, but he couldn't get over it.
The old man glanced at Young Master Bai, who nodded. He gently reassured him that everything would be alright.
"It's getting late, everyone go back to sleep," the old lady said, dismissing everyone.
