As she spoke, she grabbed the child and led him out the door.
Zhao Zishuo immediately opened his mouth wide and started crying loudly, calling out for his grandmother.
"Xie Dan, what are you doing? What's wrong with you so early in the morning? Let go of the child!" Zhao Ma put down the bowl and went to pull the child away.
"I can take care of my own child, you don't need to worry about him," Xie Dan shouted as she turned around.
"I'm the child's grandmother. I've been taking care of your whole family and the child from dawn till dusk, and I can't even take responsibility for it?" Zhao Ma was a shrew, and she certainly wouldn't let her daughter-in-law get away with it.
"Who asked you to serve us? Who needs your service? We can't live without you. If you're gone, our whole family will have to go with you!" Xie Dan's pent-up emotions finally erupted.
“Zhao Xiaochuan, listen to this! Is this how your wife talks? Is this how you talk to your mother-in-law? I serve your whole family like a maid, and I’m wrong?” Zhao’s mother yelled at Zhao Xiaochuan.
Zhao Xiaochuan's head was buzzing.
“I didn’t expect you to serve me. We’re going to separate the family, but you insist on clinging to your son. You can’t live without your son. You want to be a maid?” Xie Dan pulled the child and walked out.
"You, you're being insolent! Xie Dan, do you have any manners? Is this how your family raised you? You have no respect for your hometown at all!" Zhao Ma's face turned ashen with anger. In all these years, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law had never had such a direct confrontation.
"I've respected you for so many years, but have you ever respected me?" Xie Dan suppressed her anger, not wanting to divorce Zhao Xiaochuan, so she couldn't be too harsh. "Mom, you've worked so hard all these years, I thank you. We're getting old, let's separate the family. While you're still healthy, you can enjoy some leisure time. Go out dancing, exercise, travel, and don't worry about us."
After saying that, she pulled the child out of the yard.
Zhao's mother trembled with anger, pointing at the courtyard gate, "This is your wife? She treats your mother like this, and you don't even care?"
"Mom, let's go inside first, so people don't laugh at us," Zhao Xiaochuan rubbed his face and helped his mother up.
“It’s a joke, but it’s also a joke about your unfilial behavior.” Zhao Xiaochuan didn’t speak up for her, which made Zhao’s mother very dissatisfied.
"You're always making a fuss and arguing, there's never a moment of peace. Hurry up and come inside!" Zhao's father shouted from inside the house, feeling ashamed.
Zhao's mother was unconvinced, but she didn't continue talking in the yard. She stormed into the house.
"What are you arguing about again? Can't you just be quiet for once?" asked Zhao's father.
"You're scolding me too? I work myself to the bone every day to take care of your whole family, and I'm wrong? Don't you have any conscience?" Zhao's mother cried, feeling wronged.
Zhao Xiaochuan sighed, "Mom, the child is already ten years old, and you still feed him. What family has such a big child who doesn't eat by himself? You spoil him too much."
“I just want my child to eat one more bite. If you don’t care, can’t I?” Zhao’s mother said, explaining her reasoning.
Zhao Xiaochuan: "He's such a big kid, doesn't he know how to eat? He scolds his mother, and you protect him. Tell me, is it okay to spoil a child like this? If I scolded you, could you stand it? There's an old saying that spoiling a child is like killing a child. Mom, don't blame Xie Dan for everything."
Zhao's mother: "Your wife scolds the kids as soon as she thinks of them, and dumps them on me when she doesn't. Yesterday, she was yelling at me because of their homework. It's not like they're going to school today. What's wrong with doing it in a couple of days? Why does she have to make such a fuss?"
Both sides have their own arguments, and no one can truly resolve a family dispute.
"Mom, how about we separate the household? The three of us can live separately..."
Before Zhao Xiaochuan could finish speaking, his mother immediately objected, "Your father and I only have you as our son. You went out and left us here? We raised you, and now you're abandoning us?"
