Chapter 166 You're Mine Now
Guo Zhenyi smiled after hearing this.
"You're all exhausted today, go wash up and go to bed, don't stay up too late."
Zhou Shufen stood up and patted the wrinkles on her skirt.
Looking at all the people in the room, she suddenly felt extremely at ease.
After everyone had left, Guo Zhenyi remained.
He leaned against the door frame, still holding the wet towel in his hand.
"Zhenyi, you..."
Zhou Shufen had just opened her mouth when a sudden silence silenced her.
She looked at him, her eyes filled with doubt and a hint of unease.
It's so late, why isn't he leaving? What does he want to say?
"I've had too much to drink, I'm afraid to drive, I'm afraid of causing an accident."
He pretended to be somewhat drunk.
But his eyes were not at all cloudy; they were gently fixed on Zhou Shufen.
After a long while, Zhou Shufen spoke softly.
"Then you can stay here tonight, I'll make up your bed."
She turned and walked towards the bedroom.
Fortunately, Zhou Yujie's rented apartment was big enough, with three bedrooms and a living room, so he could manage to squeeze in.
The only room left was the one next to hers.
Zhou Shufen pushed open the door, turned on the light, and patted the blanket.
Guo Zhenyi followed behind her, his eyes fixed on her, forgetting even his own heartbeat.
He stood at the door, not daring to go in rashly, only watching her busy figure.
"Shufen, it's so nice to see you every day."
Zhou Shufen paused for a moment.
She could feel the gaze from behind her, a gaze that burned her with unease.
With a creak, the door opened.
The room was simple, with a wooden bed and a wardrobe with peeling paint.
She turned to light the lamp, but her hand was grabbed.
Guo Zhenyi's palms have thin calluses, marks left from years of holding a pen.
"No need to turn on the lights, this will do."
"Shufen, seeing how well you managed the shop today makes me feel really at ease."
As he said this, his gaze fell on her profile.
Zhou Shufen gently moved her wrist, tried to break free, but couldn't.
She simply let him have his way.
"It's not my achievement; everyone did it together."
"You came up with the idea, and you also gathered the people."
Guo Zhenyi moved forward half a step, bringing the two closer together.
He smelled the soap in her hair, a scent that brought him a sense of relief.
"When you said you wanted to open a shop, I believed you could succeed."
These days, she gets up before dawn and stays up late reviewing account books and studying the blueprints for the new store.
I need to keep an eye on Yu Xin's factory, and I also need to manage Ningcheng's new store.
She was like a taut string, never daring to relax for a moment.
She never complained in front of the children.
But Guo Zhenyi's single sentence seemed to reveal the weariness hidden in her heart.
It wasn't a question, nor was it expressing pity; it was simply, "I believe in you."
She looked up and met his smiling eyes.
“You always indulge me and pave the way for me all the way.”
Guo Zhenyi chuckled softly.
He released her hand and tidied her stray hairs.
"Shufen, I've been waiting for this day for far too long."
Her face burned even hotter, and her ears turned so red they looked like they were about to bleed.
"Hurry up and make the bed. You've been busy all day, it's time to rest."
Zhou Shufen had her back to him, and tried her best to keep her voice calm, but the slight tremor at the end of her voice betrayed her.
He watched her flustered fingertips, and the smile on his lips deepened little by little.
"You rest, I'll take care of it."
When he said this, his voice was so low it sounded like a sigh.
Inside the room, the sheets were laid out flat and wrinkle-free, and the pillows were placed neatly against the headboard.
He suddenly remembered something, and then slowly took a small box out of his pocket.
"for you."
It was a small velvet box.
Zhou Shufen was slightly taken aback, then gently lifted the lid of the box.
With a soft click, the box opened, revealing a gold bracelet lying quietly inside.
“I passed by the department store today and saw it was bright and eye-catching in the window. I thought to myself, it would look great on you.”
He scratched his head, his ear tips turning slightly red.
“I asked the sales clerk to pick out the style. I don’t know much about these things myself, and I don’t know if it suits your taste.”
Why waste money like this?
She said this, but her tone betrayed a hidden smile.
"It's not a waste of money."
He looked at her intently.
"When things get better in the future, I'll buy you a big house, a new car, and the brightest diamond necklace. Whatever you want to wear, wherever you want to live, I'll bring it all home for you. If you like something, I'll do everything I can to get it for you."
"Zhenyi, can you help me put it on?"
His eyes lit up, and he carefully lifted her wrist, slowly slipping the gold bracelet onto her wrist.
"This is too expensive."
She murmured, a sense of unease rising in her heart.
"I can't accept something so expensive."
Just as she was about to make a move, he grabbed her hand, pulled her into his arms, and drew her into his embrace.
Guo Zhenyi's embrace was broad and warm, with a hint of tobacco smell.
"What's valuable?"
"You've always been the most valuable thing in my life. Without you, even if mountains of gold and silver were placed in front of me, I wouldn't care about them."
Zhou Shufen's ears instantly turned red.
"Shufen, I miss you so much, I'm going crazy. I work like crazy every day on the construction site, and I don't even dare to wipe the sweat from my eyes, because I'm afraid that if I stop, all I'll think about is you. I want to marry you tomorrow, find a car, take you to the Civil Affairs Bureau, get our marriage certificate, have a wedding banquet, and tell the whole world that you are mine. For the rest of my life, I will never let go, and I will never let you be alone again."
Before he could finish speaking, his kiss landed on her lips.
She instinctively closed her eyes and unconsciously softened her breathing.
The only sounds in the room were breathing and the violent pounding of two hearts.
"Shufen..."
"Will you marry me?"
Zhou Shufen's heart skipped a beat.
She looked up abruptly, her wet eyes meeting his bright, shining ones.
"OK."
Guo Zhenyi was like a firework that had exploded, his pupils suddenly trembling.
"Shufen, from now on, you belong to me."
Those words, like a vow, weighed heavily on her heart.
Zhou Shufen remained silent.
"aunt!"
Yang Qingyan woke up groggily, her face still drowsy.
She turned over, but didn't see Zhou Shufen. In a panic, she grabbed her pillow and ran out of the yard.
Zhou Shufen hurriedly pushed Guo Zhenyi away.
She couldn't let Qingyan see this scene, and she couldn't let her misunderstand.
He paused, frozen in place, his face filled with disappointment.
But in the blink of an eye, he smiled again, a smile that contained no resentment, only understanding and doting.
He knew that some things couldn't be rushed, and some feelings needed to be waited for.
Zhou Shufen walked towards the door.
"I'm going back now. Remember to lock the door."
"Shufen".
He called to her softly.
"I'll fry you eggs for breakfast tomorrow morning."
He spoke with the seriousness of someone making an important promise.
Her heart softened, she nodded gently, and then left the room.
"Qingyan, your aunt is tidying up Uncle Guo's house, why aren't you asleep yet?"
Zhou Shufen quickly walked to the child's side and hugged Yang Qingyan.
I got up to drink water because I was thirsty, but you weren't there... so I didn't want to bother you.
Yang Qingyan hugged her pillow and muttered softly.
"Auntie, you should go to sleep! We have to get up early tomorrow."
Zhou Shufen ruffled her hair and said with a smile.
"Okay, sleep with Qingyan, and you'll grow tall and strong! You can even become a female general in your dreams."
The courtyard was finally quiet.
