Chapter 50 They're the ones who are wrong.
"Thank you...it's you who appeared at this time again and helped me out of this predicament."
Zhou Shufen forced a smile.
It seems that Guo Zhenyi always appears whenever she is at her most vulnerable and helpless.
Pull her out of the mire.
"Don't thank me, it's not your fault, they're the ones at fault."
Guo Zhenyi looked at her intently, his tone steady.
"Remember this, it's not your fault, not at all. You don't need to take responsibility for other people's greed and unreasonableness."
Zhou Shufen nodded haphazardly.
My thoughts, however, had already drifted far away.
She thought of Zhou Hailiang from her past life.
Back then, he was good at sweet-talking and flattering people, always saying:
"Mom, you've worked so hard."
"Mom, I love you the most."
He would call to greet people during every holiday and often brought back gifts.
Of all her children, she loved him the most and fulfilled all his requests.
But what happens in the end?
She was seriously ill and bedridden, but her children couldn't wait for her to leave.
Zhou Hailiang even complained in front of his siblings.
"She needs over two hundred yuan a day for IV drips, who can afford that?"
Even the funeral wasn't held in a proper manner.
Now that she's been given a second chance at life, all she wants is to live a good life.
She tried to make up for past favoritism, thinking that this would change her fate.
But the Zhou Hailiang before me is even more terrifying than in my previous life.
They actually dared to force her to give them money at the wedding in front of so many people.
"Sometimes I wonder if I've been a terrible mother. I've raised four or five children, and only two of them are somewhat sensible. The others are either selfish and indifferent, or insatiably greedy..."
With only Guo Zhenyi by her side, Zhou Shufen unconsciously spoke her mind.
"But you also said that two other children are fine, so how can you say it's your fault?"
Guo Zhenyi patted her shoulder lightly.
"How children grow up depends not only on their parents, but also on their own character. You gave them life and basic necessities, but the rest should not be your responsibility alone."
"But those two..."
Images from the past flashed through Zhou Shufen's mind.
When her eldest son had a fever as a child, she didn't take him to the hospital in time because she had to take care of Zhou Hailiang's new girlfriend.
This resulted in him having mild hearing problems in his ear.
Her second daughter wanted a tutoring book, but she thought it was too expensive and didn't buy it.
Later, the child was able to keep up with the lessons by borrowing books from classmates.
Although they weren't deprived of food and clothing, they weren't really taken seriously.
"Stop thinking about these things. Your kids are all adults now and have to walk their own paths. The most important thing for you right now is to live your life well."
Guo Zhenyi gently held her shoulder, making her look at him.
When she met his calm and gentle eyes, her flustered heart calmed down.
So much happened today that she was completely overwhelmed.
She couldn't figure out what she had done wrong.
She didn't even dare to recall what she had overheard in the hotel.
"I understand, thank you so much. You not only helped me out of that predicament today, but you also stayed here and talked to me."
Zhou Shufen's voice was filled with gratitude.
"I'm glad you can pull through. How about I take you?"
As Guo Zhenyi spoke, his gaze never left her face.
"No need, no need. It's still daylight. I can walk back by myself."
She quickly waved her hand.
We've already troubled them too much.
The two said goodbye, and Zhou Shufen returned home.
Zhou Haiqing and Qin Guifang were extremely anxious, wondering whether they should go out to look for someone.
"I'm back."
As soon as she pushed open the door, the two of them immediately ran out of the house.
"Mom! You're finally back! Haiqing and I were so worried!"
Qin Guifang grabbed her hand and looked her up and down.
I was afraid she might have suffered some injustice.
Seeing her calm expression, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Guifang and I went to pick you up at the wedding banquet, only to find out about what happened."
Zhou Haiqing lowered his voice.
"It's alright now. I knew something bad wouldn't happen there."
Zhou Shufen took off her coat and hung it on the hanger.
"You have no idea what happened when we got there! Zhou Xiaowei called off the engagement in front of all the guests, causing a huge uproar. Everyone was stunned."
Zhou Haiqing deliberately made it sound more relaxed.
"Oh? Well, he deserves it. Let's just let this go. From now on, we'll only care about ourselves and ignore everyone else."
Zhou Shufen spoke calmly.
She had long anticipated this day would come.
Zhou Xiaowei, a person who only cares about money, got close to Zhou Hailiang because she could gain benefits from it.
Now that they haven't gotten any benefits, they've naturally scattered.
These people have a lot of tricks up their sleeves; it's best to stay away from them.
She didn't want to get involved in these messy things anymore.
Zhou Hailiang was an immature person from a young age.
Now that she's been dumped and is making such a scene, she deserves it.
She has no intention of interfering, nor is she obligated to.
"Mom is right! We don't need to worry about that. Living a good life is the most important thing."
Qin Guifang nodded repeatedly after listening.
After saying that, he went to the kitchen to boil water.
The group finally calmed down.
But this matter was still unpleasant, and no one at the dinner table mentioned Zhou Hailiang's name again.
Everyone ate in silence, occasionally exchanging a few words about everyday life.
Qin Guifang paused for a moment when picking up some food.
He wanted to say something, but swallowed it back.
Zhou Shufen noticed her hesitation but didn't press her for details.
Sometimes, it's better not to say anything than to say something.
Time flies, and it was the next morning in the blink of an eye.
Zhou Shufen got up as usual, tidied herself up, and went out to study design.
The weather outside was sunny, and she walked briskly out of the building entrance.
The neighbor was walking his dog downstairs, and the two greeted each other.
She wasn't thinking too much; she was only focused on today's lesson.
She has already mastered the course and her progress is obvious.
She can basically understand what the teacher is saying, and she can even draw a few sketches after class.
Several young people in her class often discussed things with her.
During lunch break, she sat on a bench outside the classroom and ate her lunchbox.
Occasionally, I look up at the sky and think that life is pretty good just like this.
Qin Guifang continued to look after the shop and manage the business.
Her belly was already quite big.
Every day, I just tidy up the store and wait for customers to come in.
She dared not make any big movements, and the doctor had advised her to rest more.
The work isn't strenuous, but there's never a moment of peace.
Occasionally, when I need to use the restroom, I have to check if anyone is coming in.
Unexpectedly, before any customers arrived, a troublemaker showed up instead.
She was looking down at her phone replying to a message when she suddenly heard footsteps.
Looking up, I saw a figure staggering towards me.
The man approached, carrying a wine bottle in his hand.
As he walked, he mumbled something unintelligible.
After finishing the bottle of wine, he shook it violently and smashed it on the ground.
"You dare to betray me? That wretched woman ruined my life, I will never let her get away with this!"
His face turned purple, and his eyes were filled with hatred.
Looking up, I saw Zhou Shufen's shop right in front of me.
He gritted his teeth, pushed the door open, and rushed inside.
"Where is Zhou Shufen? Is she there?"
Qin Guifang looked up from behind the cashier and immediately recognized Zhou Hailiang.
Her heart tightened.
"Watch your mouth. That's my mom. You can't just call her by her name like that."
Zhou Hailiang recognized that the speaker was Qin Guifang.
He gave a cold laugh.
"What are you calling me 'Mom' for? She's my enemy! I'm here today to settle scores with her! Since she's not here, I'll smash up her lousy shop and vent my anger!"
After saying that, he pulled out an iron rod.
