Chapter 56 What's with the pretense of high-mindedness?

Chapter 56 What's with the pretense of high-mindedness?

"Otherwise what? What else can you give me?"

Wu Haiyan stared at him coldly.

"I'm wasting my breath talking to you! You can't even support yourself, and you expect me to pamper and coax you? Dream on!"

She gave a cold laugh, her words leaving no room for sentimentality.

"You still have the nerve to ask me that?"

Zhou Dajun suddenly slammed his hand on the table, making the bowls and chopsticks jump.

He stood up abruptly, his eyes bloodshot, his fingers almost poking Wu Haiyan's face.

"What are you pretending to be so high and mighty for, you divorced woman? Everyone knows you ruined your previous marriage yourself. Weren't you the one who came to me that night? You were drunk and couldn't even speak properly, and you wouldn't let go of my hand. Now you're looking down on me?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

Wu Haiyan laughed in anger, suddenly stood up, and forcefully slapped his hand away, the force so great that he staggered back half a step.

"You're just wasting your life, and you blame me for your incompetence? You're unemployed and instead of looking for a job, you spend all your time playing games, drinking, and complaining! Who cares about you! Who cares about your face or your character! Stop putting on airs, you piece of trash, what are you yelling about! If you're so capable, go out and make some money!"

"Me, a piece of trash?"

Zhou Dajun's voice trembled with anger, and his eyes reddened.

"You're the one who's worthless! Always with a long face and cold demeanor! Compared to the one before, you're not even as good as the mud under her feet! She's gentle, considerate, and caring. What about you? Besides cursing me and looking down on me, what else can you do? I must have been out of my mind to have fallen for you!"

Zhou Dajun got more and more into cursing, spitting as he spoke.

He could tell at a glance that Wu Haiyan's expression had changed.

"They're doing really well now, their shop is always packed with customers, they can't even keep up with the money they make. And you? You're just a lowly workshop foreman, nobody, you don't even have a voice. I'm ashamed of you!"

He deliberately emphasized the word "people".

Wu Haiyan's ears were ringing.

This is the thing she can't stand the most.

She had fought tooth and nail for this job, relying on groveling and pulling strings to get it.

She had fought tooth and nail to snatch the man from someone else, but her life kept getting worse and worse, and her salary didn't increase.

"Shut up!"

She finally lost control and screamed.

Did I say something wrong?

Zhou Dajun straightened up instead, and asked with a cold smile, showing no remorse on his face.

He tilted his head, looking at her with disdain.

"I must have been blind! In every way, Zhou Shufen is better than you! She's capable, knows how to handle things, knows how to manage a household, and understands social dynamics. And you? What can you do besides nagging, complaining, and being petty?"

He got more and more excited as he talked, even shaking his head exaggeratedly, looking quite smug.

He deliberately mentioned Zhou Shufen's name repeatedly.

You can never compare to her; you're just a substitute, a compromise.

"Get out! Since you think she's so great, then get out of this room!"

Wu Haiyan was completely furious.

She lunged forward and pushed hard with both hands, with a force that even she herself hadn't expected.

Caught off guard, Zhou Dajun staggered back a few steps and almost fell to the ground.

As soon as he was pushed out the door, Wu Haiyan immediately turned around and rushed into the bedroom, grabbing all his wrinkled, tattered clothes and musty-smelling old shoes, rolling them up without leaving a single piece behind.

Then, she rushed to the door, opened the security door, and raised her arm.

They threw all the luggage into the hallway!

The hallway was instantly filled with a mess.

Zhou Dajun was still in a daze, cursing under his breath, preparing to explode.

But the door slammed shut with a loud bang.

He then realized that he had been kicked out of his home.

He squatted on the ground, frantically picking up the rags, his fingers trembling as he haphazardly stuffed the clothes back into his bag.

"Open the door! Open the door! Stop messing around!"

But it was quiet inside; there wasn't even a sound of footsteps.

A few minutes later, he stood at the door and finally realized that knocking was useless.

He spat on the floor tiles in front of the door, his eyes darkening.

He shouldered the bulging, tattered bag, gritting his teeth.

"You won't let me in, huh? Fine, then don't come crying to me for a ride back. Do you really think I have nowhere else to go?"

He turned and left, his back view looking disheveled.

After walking a distance, he pondered where to settle down next.

The night wind slipped into his collar, chilly, and he shrank his neck, but still held his head high.

The first person that popped into my mind was Zhou Shufen.

That woman was his wife; she had shared his hardships and weathered the toughest times with him.

Although they had been divorced for many years, he knew that she was soft-hearted and kind, and wouldn't truly shut him out.

She will definitely take him in again, even if it's just for a few days.

We've been husband and wife for so many years, and our names are still on our marriage certificate.

The child's photo is still in a frame at her home.

As the old saying goes, "A prodigal son who returns is more precious than gold."

Hasn't he turned back now?

Isn't it an act worthy of forgiveness to take the initiative to leave Wu Haiyan, who is always noisy and petty, and return to the "right path"?

The more he thought about it, the more justified he felt, and his pace gradually quickened.

Thinking of this, Zhou Dajun couldn't help but smile, his eyes narrowing into slits.

He reached up and lifted his backpack, then swung it forcefully over his right shoulder.

He immediately straightened his back.

He walked with his head held high and chest out in the direction of Zhou Haiqing's house.

He knew that Zhou Shufen was now living with Lao Si.

With only Zhou Haiqing and Qin Guifang left at home, it was the perfect opportunity for him to make his move.

The doorbell rang three times.

Zhou Haiqing was washing vegetables in the kitchen when she heard the doorbell ring. She quickly dried her hands and hurried to the door.

As he turned the doorknob, he laughed and said loudly, "Mom, why are you back so early today? I thought you'd be back before dinner..."

But his smile froze on his face halfway through his sentence.

He opened his eyes wide and was slightly taken aback.

The person standing at the door was not Zhou Shufen, the mother, but Zhou Dajun.

The man, wearing a faded gray jacket, wore a smug smile that revealed a row of yellowed teeth. He said slowly, "You've mistaken me for someone else, son. It's not your mother, it's your father. What, not welcoming him?"

Zhou Haiqing opened his mouth, but before he could utter a single word.

Zhou Dajun swiftly pushed forward with his shoulder and shoved forward.

He slid into the room like an eel.

After entering the house, he first stood in the entryway and squinted as he scanned the living room.

After watching for a while, he nodded in satisfaction and hummed in agreement.

Then, he loosened his shoulder strap and threw his luggage on the floor with a thud.

He turned to Zhou Haiqing and ordered in a firm tone, "Go, take my things inside, don't leave them blocking the way. I'm staying here tonight, I'm not leaving."

"What are you doing here? I don't have a place for you to stay."

Zhou Haiqing's face darkened, and he lowered his voice.
