Chapter 111: New Ideas for Traders

"Hmm!" Before Zhao Xiaohai could seek justice, a dry cough was heard in the room. The voice sounded a little old, but full of energy.

The dry cough reminded Zhao Xiaohai of his own situation. He turned his head suddenly and was shocked to find that there were seven or eight people sitting in this large conference room which was over a hundred square meters. All of them were wearing military uniforms. The lowest rank among them was lieutenant colonel, and the highest rank was a major general who was sitting side by side on the sofa with a serious face.

"Mr. Zhao, huh?" The Major General, who looked younger but had a rather frail face, spoke first. He pointed to the lone chair in the middle of the hall and said stiffly, "Sit down."

"Oh, okay." Zhao Xiaohai glared at the expressionless Major Sophia, then walked to the chair carelessly and sat down on it as if no one was around.

"Mr. Zhao, I'm a major general in the KGB Far East Military District. Of course, according to your Chinese custom, you can call me leader," the frail-faced general said as he sat on the sofa, looking Zhao Xiaohai up and down. "Do you know why we called you here today?"

"I don't know." Zhao Xiaohai answered neatly.

Zhao Xiaohai's straightforwardness and shamelessness made the officers present twitch their lips. In their opinion, this guy who committed a serious crime should first admit his crime, and then beg for mercy with tears and snot on his face. After that, everything will be easy. They put forward conditions and let this cunning guy who has a lot of connections in China become their money-making tool.

But the reality now shows that Sophia's judgment was not wrong at all. This guy is indeed a piece of stinky and hard stone. He has no awareness of his crimes, and of course, there is no question of begging for mercy.

Zyuganov frowned, stared at Zhao Xiaohai for a while, then turned his head and waved to a lieutenant colonel holding a thick document not far away.

The lieutenant colonel stood up, unfolded the document, and read aloud: "Zhao Xiaohai, Green City, Zhongyuan Province, People's Republic of China..."

It was obvious that the documents listed all of Zhao Xiaohai's crimes. These crimes ranged from real to fabricated, including smuggling contraband, tax evasion, illegal profiteering, endangering the border security of Soviet Union countries, espionage, and so on. Regardless, based on these crimes, Zhao Xiaohai deserved to be shot twenty times over. There was no place like a prison or a torture camp to hold him. Listening to the crimes listed by the Soviet soldiers, not only did Zhao Xiaohai feel like an unforgivable sinner, but he himself felt like an eternal criminal.

"Alright, alright, stop reading," Zhao Xiaohai couldn't bear to hear it any longer. He shifted his posture in his chair and said with a bitter face, "Everyone, I'm very aware of the crimes I've committed. Smuggling large amounts of contraband and bribing your country's serving soldiers—for just these two things, I'm afraid I'll have to do hard labor in your labor camp for the rest of my life. So, there's no need to accuse me of any of those ridiculous crimes."

"Then do you know why we didn't deal with you directly, but instead gave you the best treatment and let you enjoy the best medical care in the past few days?" A middle-aged major sitting next to Zyuganov asked calmly.

"That must be because you think there's a better way to deal with me," Zhao Xiaohai said with a grin. "After all, just shooting me would waste a bullet, and at the same time, my body isn't suited to the hard labor in the labor camp. So, from the perspective of punishing the criminal while taking into account economic benefits, using... Ouch!"

Before Zhao Xiaohai could finish his teasing words, he was slapped hard on the back of his head.

"Answer the questions honestly. This is not the place to show off your sense of humor!" Sophia said with a cold face standing behind Zhao Xiaohai. Not to mention, this slap made her feel very happy.

"Well then," Zhao Xiaohai rubbed the back of his head and shrugged his shoulders. "In that case, don't test me anymore. Honestly, my brain is only for business and making money, not for solving puzzles. Now that everyone is sitting here, feel free to speak openly. I'm a businessman, and I'll do anything that benefits me. And in my opinion, the biggest profit right now is just being able to walk out of your hands alive. So, as long as you can accept my conditions, you can ask for anything you want. As long as I can do it, I will never refuse."

"Good!" the Major General finally spoke. He clapped his hands, sat up straight, and said loudly, "Mr. Zhao is indeed a quick-witted person. I like people like you who speak directly. To be honest, when we first captured you, we really didn't intend to keep someone like you alive. But then, due to a small change of heart, we changed our minds. So, you really have walked around the gates of hell."

"You are General Zyuganov, right?" Zhao Xiaohai glanced at the sharp-faced old man and smiled. "I know everything you're talking about. I guessed it from the day I left the prison and was transferred to your hospital. So the only thing I want to know now is what you want from me."

"It's very simple," Zyuganov stood up, walked slowly to Zhao Xiaohai's side, patted him on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "All we need is your favorite thing."
