"Between three hundred thousand and five hundred thousand?! Brother, are you kidding me?!" Although Zhao Xiaohai was knowledgeable and calm, and had made some mental preparations in advance, he still almost jumped up from the sofa. He opened his eyes wide and exclaimed in surprise.
It's no wonder Zhao Xiaohai, known for his calm demeanor, reacted with such surprise. Even if anyone racked their brains, they probably wouldn't have guessed Yakov would offer such an unexpectedly low price. Zhao Xiaohai knew the Qishino Holiday Hotel. This official Soviet government hotel was arguably the best and most upscale in Khabarovsk. Compared to it, the Friendship Hotel seemed like a low-class establishment.
The Qishino Holiday Hotel is located in the northern district of Khabarovsk City. Every time Zhao Xiaohai went to the military supply depot, he would pass by the door of this hotel. However, there were guards there and ordinary people were not allowed to enter, so Zhao Xiaohai didn't know what the interior decoration was like. But then again, a hotel covering several hectares of land with a swimming pool and woodland, even if its selling price is as low as possible, it probably shouldn't be less than five or six million rubles, right?
"Do I look joking?" Yakov glanced at Zhao Xiaohai and said nonchalantly, "As long as you can join our cooperation club, you will have the opportunity to acquire the Qishino Holiday Hotel at the ultra-low price of 300,000 rubles. Not only that, but you can also get a kickback of no less than 500,000 rubles from us afterwards. Hehe, in other words, as long as you can cooperate with us, if you want to buy a holiday hotel like Qishino, you not only don't have to pay a penny, but you can even get benefits in return. What do you think? Does this kind of cooperation appeal to you?"
"Ha, brother, you're almost confusing me," Zhao Xiaohai laughed, shaking his head. "Are you talking about some fantasy? I already couldn't bear to buy a hotel as large as the Chishino for just three or five hundred thousand rubles, and now you're saying you're going to give me another half a million. This kind of cooperation is indeed very profitable, but I think that free cakes often have poison in them."
"Haha, brother, it seems you still don't believe me." Yakov threw the cigarette butt on the gorgeous carpet at his feet, stepped on it and stomped it out. He glanced at Zhao Xiaohai with a gloomy look before continuing, "Well, it's my precious sister who has fallen for you. I'll let you know more today. Let me tell you, brother, if it were someone else, hehe, he would be out of the game."
Zhao Xiaohai ignored Yakov's dissatisfaction. He shrugged his shoulders and said nothing.
"Wait a moment, I'll show you something." Shaking his head helplessly, Yakov stood up from the sofa and said in a cold tone, "I believe that after reading this, you will understand everything. But I'm going to say it bluntly, once you understand our plan, you will have no room for regrets. Otherwise, no matter how deep your feelings for Sofia are, I will get rid of you without hesitation. Are you mentally prepared?"
"Do you think you can give me a chance just because I regret it now?" Zhao Xiaohai rolled his eyes and said disapprovingly.
"Haha, okay, I like you more and more." Yakov patted Zhao Xiaohai on the shoulder, then strode out the door.
Watching Yakov disappear out the door, Zhao Xiaohai reached out and rubbed his still-aching abdomen, pondering the details of this collaboration. Clearly, regardless of who Yakov meant by "we," this group must be high-ranking figures in the Soviet regime; otherwise, they wouldn't have known about a reform plan that hadn't even been officially promulgated. Furthermore, Yakov had just mentioned that they were confident they could secure the execution rights to auction off state-owned assets in certain areas. In Zhao Xiaohai's view, such power was unattainable. More importantly, these people were incredibly bold. They'd just sold a state-owned hotel worth millions of rubles, using shady methods, for a mere few hundred thousand rubles. What did this mean? It undoubtedly meant they weren't worried about an investigation, let alone the possibility of their actions being exposed.
This was a banquet, held quietly and shrouded in secrecy. The attendees were a group of corrupt officials holding real power, and every dish served was Soviet state-owned property. Now, Yakov had opened a door, inviting him to join the feast and share in the delicious dishes. This was undoubtedly a great opportunity. But then again, was this really a free lunch? Could he really get something for nothing? Clearly, that was impossible. These people had invited him to their feast because they must have some difficult issues he needed to resolve. What kind of schemes would they be? What role would he play in this feast? Zhao Xiaohai couldn't imagine it yet, but he was sure he would soon find out.
Yakov was away for about seven or eight minutes. When he reappeared in the reception room, he had two brown hardcover account books in his hands.
Facing Zhao Xiaohai's puzzled gaze, Yakov walked back to the sofa and sat down. He placed the two account books on the coffee table, reached out and tapped the cover of the upper one, and said with a smile, "See? This is the settlement account of the Second State Special Hospital in Kuibyshev City. The Bovinov brothers personally calculated it two weeks ago. According to our reform plan, this special hospital will be sold after August 4th."
