Chapter 123 Going to the County

Zhang Youling happily accepted it and said, "Okay, thank you, Zhou Xiang. This is a wonderful gift. I gladly accept it."

Principal Li asked the two to sit down. They didn't want to leave immediately, so they sat down and chatted for a while.

Principal Li told Zhou Xiang that Zhong Ling had transferred to another school and was studying in Liu Town where her aunt lived.

Zhou Xiang just smiled when she heard that. She thought that going there would be a good opportunity for her to meet her future husband in advance, which was great.

After sitting for a while, Zhou Xiang and Ling Ran said goodbye and went home.

"Is Zhong Ling causing trouble again?"

"Yeah!" Zhou Xiang told Ling Ran what happened on the first day of school. Ling Ran felt that this result was not satisfying and he had to find an opportunity to retaliate.

Ling Ran returned home and handed the cloth bag to his mother, "Here, think about the down jacket I gave you."

Dong Yunrong took the cloth bag in surprise. "It's really down. That's great. I saw Xiang Xiang wearing something light and asked her if she was cold! She told me she was wearing a down jacket and said that down jackets are all the rage in big cities."

"Look how excited you are. Do you know how to make down jackets?" Ling Quan asked.

Dong Yunrong was stunned for a moment, then continued, "I won't ask Xiang Xiang's mother, will I?"

Ling Ran ignored his parents' verbal battle and went back to his room to review what the little girl had said today.

Zhou Xiang returned home and took the initiative to cook dinner. Zhou Yu breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that he would not be forced to cook by his father.

Zhou Xiang found it funny to see his second sister looking relieved.

Early in the morning, I kicked my second sister awake.

"I'm going to pick up my eldest brother today. You have to make more dinner for him. He can eat a lot, but he was too embarrassed to eat at grandpa's. We can't let him be afraid to eat for the first meal when he comes home."

"I'm going with you! We said we'd go pick it up together."

"Really? If you dare to wander around the county town, do you still want your diploma?"

"Uh, alright! Go on your own."

He took out his precious watch from under the pillow, put it on and went out to wash up. Since the bathroom was usable, Zhou Xiang forbade his second sister to use the urine bucket and even threw the urine bucket away.

In the middle of the night, Zhou Xiang went to the bathroom with a flashlight. He was not afraid that his second sister would find out that he was not in bed. Not to mention that his second sister was nearsighted, she would definitely be confused if she got up in the middle of the night. Besides, he had stuffed a pillow in the quilt, so it would be strange if she could find out.

Zhou Xiang had no choice but to pick up the coal from the stove, cook two poached eggs, eat them, and then go to catch the carriage.

The coal used for the three kangs is consumed too quickly, so it’s time to buy more coal blocks.

On the provincial road, Ling Ran was waiting for the little girl. "Yesterday you said you were going to the county town, but I forgot to ask you, what are you going to do there?"

"Oh, to pick up my eldest brother and take him home."

Ling Ran knew that the little girl's eldest brother Zhou Niao looked more like the little girl, and her third brother looked more like her second sister.

Zhou Niao's intelligence is like that of a child, but he understands a lot of common sense and knowledge and can learn it once taught. Unfortunately, it is only limited to the first or second grade, and he cannot learn anything above that.

I heard that his brain was damaged by a fever caused by meningitis when he was a child. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were many symptoms of meningitis in young children. Otherwise, Zhou Niao should have been the smartest among the four siblings.

"It's good that Zhou Niao is back. Living in your grandfather's house always makes me feel like a guest under someone else's roof. It's uncomfortable."

"Yeah! So I prepared everything at home and went to pick him up."

The two chatted idly, and Ma Gua arrived two minutes before the shuttle bus.

"Sorry, I'm late."

"It's okay, the car hasn't arrived yet."

Just as Zhou Xiang finished speaking, the car arrived and the three of them got in.

Ling Ran didn't know that Zhou Xiang had also made an appointment with Ma Gua, and his "world of two" with the little girl was destroyed.

Zhou Xiang saw that he looked grumpy and was afraid that he might do something bad, so he explained, "I asked Master Ma Gua to go to Zuo Heng's place and build a toilet."

Ling Ran's face immediately turned from gloomy to bright, "Okay, there's a bathroom for convenience."

Zhou Xiang has become accustomed to his mood swings, and it doesn't matter as long as he doesn't touch his bottom line.

When he arrived at the county town, Zhou Xiang took his jacket and went to the yard of the Water Conservancy Bureau.

They bought some fried dough sticks on the way, and Zhou Xiang's sudden arrival surprised Zhou Hua and Zuo Heng.

Zhou wanted to introduce the Ma Gua to Zuo Heng and Zhou Hua.

"Third brother, Zuo Heng, this is the bricklayer, here to build the bathroom. Master Ma Gua, this is Zuo Heng, he rented this yard, and this is my third brother Zhou Hua, our roommate. We're classmates."

The three of them greeted each other, and Zhou wanted to call them into the kitchen for breakfast.

Zhou Xiang added water to the two bowls of porridge to make four bowls. The four of them ate around the small dining table.

Zhou Hua felt very happy while eating steamed buns with fried dough sticks. His current life was exactly what he had always dreamed of.

Zuo Heng finished his meal quickly, went into the house and took out two people's school bags, and said, "Let's go, Zhou Hua."

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Zhou Hua walked out of the kitchen with the fried dough sticks in his hand.

The two men said goodbye to their sister and Master Ma Gua and left the courtyard together.

Zhou Hua said to Zuo Heng, "I felt like the happiest moment was when I said goodbye to my sister just now."

Zuo Heng felt the same way. It was the happiest thing to have someone at home watching him go to school and waiting for him to get out of school.

Zhou Xiang pointed to the west wall of the courtyard and said, "Master Ma Gua, we'll build the bathroom here. Please calculate the materials needed."

Ten minutes later, Zhou Xiang took the list and said to Ma Gua, "I'll go buy the materials."

Ma Gua nodded and said, "I'll go get the tools and take my brother and younger brother with me."

The two people acted separately.

In order to be quick, Zhou Xiang hired a donkey cart and went to the dock market on the Huai River to order a tractor of bricks, paid a deposit, and gave the address.

I went to the prefabricated board factory without stopping, bought prefabricated boards, and added cement and sand.
