Chapter 2 Zhou's Mother's Discovery

Zhou Xiang was lying on a wooden bed in the kitchen, where a cold wind was blowing in. Beneath the hard quilt was a thick layer of straw.

The quilt weighing ten kilograms made it difficult to turn over, let alone tuck myself in. A chilly breeze blew in through the cracks in the window, making the quilt and my body feel icy cold.

Zhou Xiang looked at the dawn outside. If he died like this, would God regret his move again? Would he be thrown back to a time when he was younger, when he was even more powerless to resist?

The sound of a door opening was heard outside, followed by Zhou's mother's voice.

"You silly girl, why don't you get up and cook?"

Zhou Xiang opened his eyes wide and stared blankly at the roof made of bundles of reeds.

There are two rooms in the pot house, separated by a bundle of reeds in the middle, and then some lime powder is applied on the outside to form a wall.

Seeing her daughter didn't respond, Zhou's mother lifted the door curtain and walked in. "Are you fast asleep? Why don't you get up and cook?"

Seeing that her daughter didn't move or pay any attention, Zhou's mother went forward and tried to lift the quilt. When her hand touched Zhou Xiang's skin, she flinched and quickly touched her forehead, "Ah! It's so hot!"

He shouted to the outside, "Zhou Quan, Xiang Xiang has a fever. I'm taking her to see a doctor. Please ask for leave for me."

"Okay, I'll cook!"

Zhou Xiang was woken up by her mother. Seeing that she didn't move and didn't put on clothes, she sighed and took the cotton coat and trousers for her to put on.

"Girl, get up, let's go see a doctor!"

Zhou Xiang just regarded himself as a wooden man without a soul.

Zhou's mother had a bad temper and often scolded Zhou Xiang. Sometimes she would even slap him when she got angry. However, whenever Zhou Xiang was sick, Zhou's mother would still be a little gentle.

The burden of life falls on this woman. She has four children, and although three of them live with their elders, she still has to have living expenses every month.

My husband only uses his salary to eat and drink. Every time he gets his salary, he calls his friends. When the money is gone, he stays at home quietly.

Her salary was all that was needed to cover the family's daily necessities. Sometimes, when she asked her husband to contribute some of his salary to share the burden, she would get beaten up.

Zhou Xiang looked at his 42-year-old mother, who already had a lot of white hair, with dull eyes, and felt a little touched. His mother had it so hard.

The movements of her hands became more coordinated. Seeing that her daughter had some reaction, Zhou's mother felt a little relieved. She was very worried that her daughter's brain was damaged by the burn. Her eldest son had a brain burn caused by meningitis. Now he is almost twenty years old and looks like a five or six-year-old child.

After the mother and daughter washed up, Zhou's father cooked some porridge. Mother Zhou drank a bowl, but Zhou Xiang shook his head and refused to eat.

In the Chinese medicine clinic, the doctor took Zhou's pulse and said that it was evil wind that had entered the body and he had caught a cold. Zhou's mother thought about the windows in the kitchen that were drafty on all sides and felt helpless. She had no spare money. The unit could only give her four dilapidated tiled houses because both of them were working. Although Zhou's father and mother were not in the same unit, the two units were next to each other, and after some discussion, they got four remote houses.

The two rooms where Zhou's father and mother lived were slightly better, with windows that were not drafty, but the outer room was the main hall, and when Zhou's father entertained friends, he had to place the square table in the main hall.

After getting the fever-reducing medicine, Zhou's mother hurried back. "The school will wait for you when you get better. Tell the teacher when you go to school. Remember to take the medicine when you get back. I'm going to work now. If I can make it in time, I won't deduct half a day's salary."

Zhou Xiang nodded mechanically, returned home, opened the kitchen door, and went back to lie down on the bed.

What's the point of living like this?

My father neglects the family and my mother is busy earning 90 cents a day.

My sister will be back home next year. Not only is she lazy, but she also has to command herself around.

The eldest brother is stupid, the third brother is dumb, why did you ask me to come back, God?

This crappy place is on the north side of the Yangtze River. The temperature is more than ten degrees below zero in winter. We have to survive. The word "heating" has never appeared. There is no kang, not even a home heating stove. There are no spare parts at all. Even if you have the theory, you don't have the accessories to install it!

The living conditions are bad, the quality of life is bad, and you come back to be abused?

I swallowed the fever-reducing medicine mechanically. God would definitely not let me go. People who regret their moves always pretend that they didn't mean it.

If you can't live without it, you won't torture yourself. It's very uncomfortable to feel dizzy.

After taking the medicine, he went back to bed. At noon, Zhou's mother came back in a hurry and there was no ready-made meal, so he had to cook it himself.

After dinner, Zhou Xiang only drank a bowl of egg soup and went back to lie down. Seeing that her daughter had lost her energy and vitality, Zhou's mother was very worried.

I have never seen a little girl like this before. She looks like an old person who is about to die.

Zhou's mother was busy like this for three days, Zhou Xiang was like a walking corpse for three days, and Zhou's father was still happy for three days.

In the evening, Zhou's mother took her daughter to have a heart-to-heart talk. "Think about it, Mom knows you work hard every day, but life is like this. Even if you don't want to live, you have to endure it. When you are old, the moment you die and the moment you close your eyes, it will be over."

Zhou Xiang jumped up and cried out in tears, "But it can't be passed, it won't let me pass, He regrets it, He makes me start over again!"

"Who is it?"

"Oh my God!" She fainted after saying that. Mother Zhou hugged her daughter with heartache. She had seen the changes in her daughter in the past few days. The vicissitudes and deadness in her daughter's eyes frightened her.

I have heard stories about reincarnation before, and I thought my daughter's body was occupied by another ghost. However, after three days of observation, I found that the daughter was still my daughter, but she was from decades later, so I made the test just now.

What kind of life did my daughter live for the past few decades? She wouldn't want to live it over again, but if I could live it over again, I would definitely be happy.

When Zhou Xiang woke up, it was the next day. Her mother was not at work. She planned to have a good talk with her little girl and told her not to let her stay depressed like this.

After breakfast, Zhou's father went to work. Zhou's mother pulled her daughter into her bedroom and said, "Tell me, are you having a hard time in the next few decades?"

Zhou Xiang looked up at his mother in surprise. His mother said, "Mom can see that you are my daughter, my daughter decades later. What on earth have you been through that you don't even cherish this chance to start over?"

Zhou Xiang threw herself into her mother's arms and cried out loudly, her tears heart-wrenching. Zhou's mother hugged her daughter's thin body, patted her back gently, and let her cry, as long as she could cry.

Zhou Xiang had cried enough, and the depression in his heart had dissipated. Finally, he looked up and told his mother in detail about his life experiences over the past few decades.

Zhou's mother felt heartbroken when she heard this. Her daughter ended up picking up scraps and living under a bridge. Her old age was not as good as her own. At least she had her third son to take care of her.

The eldest son died of illness ten years later. The second son often came back to his parents' home after getting married, and he left with a lot of luggage. The third son remained a bachelor all his life and took care of him until he was over 80 years old. He suffered from hemiplegia when he was in his 60s. Zhou Quan was inexplicably paralyzed in bed half a year after he suffered from hemiplegia and died in a few months.
