Chapter 5: Start Learning

Thinking back on this, Zhou wondered if this was a vain girl.

Because she had to do a lot of housework at home, but always ranked higher than her in exams, she would often say sour things about Zhou Xiang's grades, saying in a roundabout way that Zhou Xiang was tired of doing housework and didn't need to study so hard.

Thinking about her cheerful tone just now, could it be that she thought I had dropped out of school and returned home to do housework full-time?

Zhou Xiang really wanted to push away the arm that was around his arm, but thinking of her nagging, he decided to endure it.

When Zhong Ling entered the classroom, the students were stunned when they saw Zhou Xiang, and then several students asked her why she didn't come to class?

Zhou Xiang simply replied to a few people that he was sick, and then stopped talking. He couldn't remember who was who and couldn't respond.

As for those who ignored him after just one glance, Zhou Xiang didn't care at all. Not to mention that they didn't want to pay attention to him, he wouldn't be on the same starting line with them in the future, so there was no need to pay attention to the emotions of these little girls.

Zhong Ling smiled and pulled Zhou Xiang to her desk. "Your things are all in there. Look for them yourself!"

Then he raised his voice and asked, "You're packing up your things and not attending classes anymore. Is that because you've dropped out of school? Your mother is so cruel. She's not letting you study just to get you to do chores at home."

Zhou Xiang turned around, looked at her with a half-smile and said, "When did I say I dropped out of school?"

"Just now! I asked you if you were not going to class anymore and you just said 'hmm'."

"Yes, I am not attending classes, but I am not dropping out of school! Oh, you don't understand now, but you will understand later."

Zhou Xiang deliberately spoke in a contemptuous tone. Because she had her brother to compare her to, what she feared most was being looked down upon.

Sure enough, Zhong Ling's face turned ugly. She wanted to say something else when the bell for class rang.

Zhou Xiang gently pushed her away and said, "Class is about to start. Go sit down at your desk."

Zhong Ling returned to her desk. Zhou Xiang took out everything from the hole in his desk and looked through it. There were only a few filled exercise books, no blank exercise books or ballpoint pens.

Although Zhou Xiang's memories of elementary school were very vague, he still remembered his habit of preparing several new exercise books. He borrowed a ballpoint pen from Zhong Ling because he was not feeling well that day.

I remembered a lot of things about this person, and I also remembered that she often borrowed my pen, saying that she forgot to bring her pen, and she forgot to bring her pen at least four days a week.

Zhou Xiang packed up his things and walked out of the classroom. As he passed Zhong Ling, he said loudly, "Zhong Ling, I'll give you my pen since you often forget to bring it with you. Don't let forgetting to bring a pen drag down your grades. You forget to bring a pen four days a week, no wonder your grades are so low."

After Zhou Xiang finished speaking, he arrived at the classroom door. Coincidentally, Chinese teacher Guo also arrived at the classroom door. Usually, teacher Guo would come to the classroom when the preparatory bell rang. But today, she came into the classroom when the second bell rang because she was looking at Zhou Xiang's test paper.

She didn't expect that Zhou Xiang, who usually had above-average grades, could actually get full marks on the most difficult fifth-grade test. She heard from the principal that she would study at home. Although it was a pity, it would be great if she could maintain her current grades by studying at home. There would be plenty of time available for self-study at home.

When Teacher Guo saw Zhou Xiang coming out, she was about to say a few words of encouragement to her when she heard a sharp female voice say, "Teacher Guo, Zhou Xiang has already dropped out of school, so she left the classroom at this time. Don't blame her."

Teacher Guo looked at the girl who was talking. He knew this girl and she was a good friend of Zhou Xiang. On the surface, what she said was for Zhou Xiang's own good, but the real intention was that, as a woman in her thirties with two sisters-in-law in her husband's family, how could he not understand?

Turning to look at Zhou Xiang again, he saw a sneer on his face. "Thank you for your concern, Zhong Ling. I believe the teacher has already learned about my situation from the principal. You don't have to worry."

I emphasized the word "worry" and said to the teacher, "Teacher, I'm leaving now. I'll come back for the exam on Friday, four weeks from now."

After Teacher Guo nodded, Zhou Xiang turned and left.

Teacher Guo looked at Zhou Xiang's aloof figure, then at the anger on Zhong Ling's face, and sighed inwardly that this Zhou Xiang was not simple. No one in this class had her calmness and magnanimity. She was not like these kids at all, who could easily let him see through their thoughts.

Teacher Guo shook off his thoughts, walked into the classroom, and stood on the podium. "Everyone, turn to the textbooks..."

Zhou Xiang left with brisk steps, knowing that he would have plenty of time to learn more knowledge in the future.

Tomorrow is Sunday, and it is market day in town. I can buy what I need, but I still have to ask my mother for money because I have no money now.

Schools nowadays still have six days off, so even though today is Saturday, school is still in session.

Today is the seventeenth day of the twelfth lunar month, the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month in the Gregorian calendar. There is still more than a month until the Spring Festival. My fruits will definitely sell well. I will ask my mother for money first, just enough to buy some wicker baskets and vegetable seeds.

After dinner, Zhou Xiang took his mother to the kitchen and said to her, "I need money to buy some things. I'll pay you back in a few days."

Zhou's mother took out all the money from her pocket and counted it. There was only three dollars and seventy cents left. "This is all the money left in the family this month."

Zhou Xiang took three yuan, and seventy cents was enough for his mother to buy food for two days. "Don't worry, Mom, I'm taking these. I'll return them to you in a few days. When I make money, I'll give you money to buy New Year's goods."

Mother Zhou smiled and rubbed her little girl's head. "Just figure it out for yourself. Mom will do her best to help you."

Zhou Xiang enjoyed this rare warmth. Ever since she confronted her mother, her mother seemed to be much more cheerful. Perhaps it was because she knew what would happen decades later and had a direction in her mind, or perhaps it was because she felt that if there were any problems in the future, she could discuss them with her little girl. It was as if she had a backbone in her heart and no longer showed such emotional instability, irritability and anger. She calmed down.

At night, after washing up, Zhou Xiang entered the space under the quilt, planning to sleep in the space from now on. He first taught himself the current Chinese and mathematics, and then memorized "Nature" and "Ideology and Morality". Zhou Xiang found that he could memorize them after reading them a few more times. Is this the benefit of rebirth?

After learning and memorizing, you can then study the fourth-grade textbooks of later generations, including those auxiliary subjects. Memorize everything you can, just in case you need it one day.

There is also English, which is an international language. In later generations, English will be taught in the third grade. Zhou Xiang took the third-grade English textbook and worked hard to learn its pronunciation and reading.
