Zhou thought about walking out of the Education Commission gate. It was getting dark, so he planned to go to Zuo Heng.
"Zhou Xiangxiang."
Zhou Xiang felt strange when he heard this unique name. Didn’t he tell him to go home?
He turned around and saw Ling Ran standing by the gate wall, "Why are you here?"
"I'm worried about waiting for you."
Seeing that his lips were frozen purple, Zhou Xiang's heart softened a little. "Then why don't you go in? It's so cold here."
"I was afraid of causing you trouble if I went in, so I waited here. What took you so long? I've been waiting for over an hour."
Hearing this, I knew that he had been chasing me since I left.
"I finished four more exams, which took me more than two hours. Let's go! Are you going to your grandfather's house?"
Ling Ran looked at Zhou Xiang, "Where are you going?"
"Me! Going to my own home."
What do you mean? My own home? Ling Ran was bewildered. "I'll go with you."
As long as it's not her grandparents' house, she will follow.
Zhou thought about it and nodded.
The two bought steamed buns and braised food at the intersection and went to the Water Conservancy Bureau.
Along the way, Ling Ran just looked at the road and memorized it without asking any questions. He would know when he got there anyway.
"Zuo Heng, Zuo Heng, here I come." Zhou Xiang pushed open the gate, and Da Huang was the first to rush out, jumping and jumping towards Zhou Xiang, wagging his tail.
Ling Ran was startled and was about to kick him when he saw Zhou Xiang pushing the big dog away. "Da Huang, get out of the way! Your claws are dirty on me."
Dahuang whimpered softly.
"Not convinced? Then lift your feet and see if they're covered in dust. You were clean in your nest, but you just left the nest and stepped on the ground."
Da Huang lowered his head and followed Zhou Xiang into the kitchen, ignoring Ling Ran who came in later.
Zhou Xiang felt strange. Doesn’t Dahuang bark at every stranger?
Looking back at Ling Ran, he secretly complained that this devil was even afraid of Da Huang when he met him for the first time.
Zuo Heng put down the noodles he was cutting, came out and saw Zhou Xiang coming in, and immediately became happy.
"Zhou Xiang, you're here?"
Then he saw Ling Ran following in, "What is this?"
Zhou Xiang introduced the two people. "He is a childhood friend of mine from town, his name is Ling Ran. Ling Ran, this is Zuo Heng, an orphan. He is now my friend and also a family member."
Ling Ran felt uncomfortable when he saw Zuo Heng's affection towards Zhou Xiang. Then he saw that he was handsome and looked like a pretty boy, which made him feel very uncomfortable. But he couldn't find fault with him because the little girl said that they were friends and family.
Zuo Heng said to Ling Ran, "Hello, please take a seat."
Ling Ran nodded, put down what he was holding and looked around the kitchen.
There are two small rooms. The outer room has a stove and a desk, and the inner room has a small dining table and benches, as well as a double-layer cement platform with grain bags and jars on it.
It's very clean and warm.
Ling Ran didn't admit that he was jealous. He definitely couldn't keep the house so clean and warm.
Will such a warm-hearted man snatch the little girl away with her?
Should I start learning how to do housework and cook?
It seems that Uncle Zhou can cook, and my father can cook too. Every time I cook with my mother in the kitchen, I cook happily.
Well, I’ve decided. When I go back, I’ll learn how to cook and how to coax a woman from my dad.
Zhou Xiang saw the noodles that Zuo had cut in half, and asked, "Are you eating noodles tonight?"
"Well, I wonder if you could come over so I can make some more noodles?"
"No, I bought steamed buns and braised food. We'll each have a bowl of thin noodles and steamed buns later."
Zuo Heng continued cutting noodles. "Why are you still in the county town so late today?"
Zhou Xiang explained what had happened, and Zuo Heng immediately thought, "Was it that rumor spread by the person who reported you for cheating in the exam room?"
Zhou Xiang nodded. "She's definitely in trouble this time! The principal lost face. Although I've come here to take the exam and redeemed myself, this rumor is still spreading among the students. It's embarrassing! So I won't let her off easily."
Zuo Heng felt relieved after hearing this, and Ling Ran started thinking about how to deal with the person named Zhong Ling.
Zhou wanted to take out the braised food, find the plates, and cut and arrange it. Ling Ran looked around, then cleaned the pot on the stove, added water, covered it with a lid, and sat on a small stool to start a fire.
Zuo Heng picked up the shaken noodles and carried them to the stove with a chopping board. He wiped the small dining table clean, brought the two braised dishes that Zhou Xiang had cut to the table, and took out sweet and sour garlic and pickled mustard greens from the jar.
Zhou Xiang saw it and said happily, "Did you buy sweet and sour garlic?"
Zuo Heng nodded. "Don't you like sweet and sour garlic? This place's not spicy and crispy. I bought a jar and you can have it when you come. And you like these pickled mustard greens too."
"Well, thank you for remembering."
Zuo Heng smiled happily, "No thanks, as long as you are happy."
Ling Ran watched the interaction between the two with displeasure. He still didn't know the little girl well enough. He only knew one or two of her favorite foods.
"Zuo Heng, the water is boiling, let's cook the noodles!" Ling Ran interrupted.
Then I thought to myself, the name Zuo Heng sounds so familiar, where have I heard it before?
Zuo Heng quickly started to cook the noodles. After the noodles boiled in the water, Zuo Heng asked Ling Ran to get some firewood.
"Why did you pull it out? Hurry up and take out the noodles, wash the pot, boil some water, and clean it up. Boil some water for washing up at night. We're staying here tonight."
Ling Ran knew that since Zhou Xiang came here, he must be planning to stay here.
When Zuo Heng heard that Zhou Xiang was going to stay tonight, he happily picked up noodles and washed the pot, and completely forgot about the word "two". This boy who disliked him could live wherever he wanted, and he just had to take care of Zhou Xiang.
Zhou Xiang couldn't help but glare at Ling Ran because of his harsh tone and the strong command he sounded.
Ling Ran felt aggrieved: Baby feels sad but doesn’t say it.
Zhou Xiang ignored Ling Ran's aggrieved face and brought the noodles to the table. "Hurry up, wash your hands and eat. Ling Ran, throw some firewood into the stove and wash your hands."
Ling Ran happily washed his hands and ate his meal, the little girl called him alone!
It was the first time in more than two years that someone sat at the dinner table with me and had a meal with me peacefully. My left eye sockets were red.
He picked up the bowl and called to the two of them, "Zhou Xiang, eat. Ling Ran, eat."
Zhou Xiang nodded vigorously. She knew Zuo Heng's current state of mind, so she pretended not to see the tears in his eyes.
Ling Ran nodded lightly. Yes, he knew basic manners, although he didn't understand why he was crying.
After dinner and feeding Dahuang's family, Zuo Heng went to the west room to make the bed for Zhou Xiang.
Zhou wanted to stop him, "I'll make the bed myself later. You bring out a quilt first, and Ling Ran will sleep with you tonight."
Then, he turned to look at Ling Ran and said apologetically, "You'll have to squeeze in with Zuo Heng tonight. His bed is okay, it's not too small."
Ling Ran nodded, and the three of them went to the main house.
