Chapter 10 Now, snatching the daughter-in-law

Chapter 10 Now, snatching the daughter-in-law

The young man quickly pulled a small round mirror out of his pocket and held it up to Jiang Jianni: "It looks just like her! It really does! She looks like Grandpa Fang, and even more like Grandma Su!"

His grandfather's eyes nearly popped out when he saw the small mirror in his hand: "You little brat! You're a boy, and you're carrying a mirror around with me?"

The old man was still strong and vigorous; he took off his shoes and chased after his grandson to beat him.

The young man then realized he'd been exposed, let out a scream, and ran away: "What's wrong with a boy carrying a mirror? Can't a boy look in the mirror to see if his hair is messy? I'm not talking to you anymore, I have things to do."

Once in the yard, he called out again, "Brother Xiangyang, remember to return the mirror to me later."

His grandfather roared, "That's your uncle! What are you calling 'brother'!"

No one cared about the farce between the grandfather and granddaughter; everyone was staring back and forth at Jiang Jiani, Fang Bo'an, and Su Jing.

Even Jiang Jianni looked in the mirror and then at Fang Bo'an and Su Jing, and couldn't help but exclaim, "They really do look alike!"

He resembles Fang Bo'an only in the nose and ears, and he resembles Su Jing only in the eyes and mouth.

Lu's mother was even more surprised: "Oh my, if it weren't for the fact that our Jia Ni's surname is Jiang, at first glance I would have thought that you two were from the same family as our Jia Ni."

Su Jing's heart skipped a beat, and she smiled and said, "It just so happens that Jia Ni likes it very much. Why don't we let Jia Ni recognize us as her godparents?"

Fang Bo'an was a man who didn't care about formalities, and upon hearing this, he laughed heartily: "This is good, this is good."

“Once we recognize Jia Ni as our goddaughter, we’ll be family.”

Lu's father immediately spat and said, "Get the hell out of here! I'm not going to be part of your family."

"You used to steal my equipment, now you're stealing my daughter-in-law. How the hell are you so capable?"

"Get out! Get out of here right now!"

As he spoke, he pushed Fang Bo'an toward the door.

Aunt Lu chimed in, "That's right, Lao Fang, you're really not a fair person."

"You have your own daughter, don't you? Isn't your daughter enough for you? Why are you trying to steal my daughter-in-law?"

“I only have this one daughter-in-law, I can’t give her to someone else.”

She also started to shoo Su Jing away: "Old Su, it's not that I'm heartless, but today is the first time my Jia Ni has come to visit."

"Since you've already met the person, I won't keep you any longer."

"You guys should go back right now, okay?!"

He then chased the couple out.

Fang Bo'an and Su Jing looked at each other, both feeling a bit helpless and amused.

Fang Bo'an said angrily, "That old Lu is really something, what nonsense is he spouting?"

"We're recognizing that girl as our daughter, not trying to steal her as our daughter-in-law. Why is he so agitated?"

"You're making me sound like some kind of tyrannical landlord. Am I that kind of person?"

Su Jing gave him a look that was hard to describe: "Come on, don't you know what kind of person you are?"

Fang Bo'an was furious: "You, you, you... wasn't it you who suggested adopting a goddaughter first?"

Su Jing: "I was just saying that, and you took it seriously? I was just envious of how well other people's girls are raised."

She sighed deeply: "Why is it that other people's daughters are all so wonderful, but our daughter is like a debtor from birth? Is it because we owed her something in our past life?"

Fang Bo'an felt a pang of discomfort when he mentioned his troublesome daughter: "Alright, let's not talk about her anymore. It's good that she's not around, so we can both relax for a couple of years."

"She'll cause trouble again when she gets back; she's a little devil."

The couple immediately looked worried when they mentioned their daughter, Fang Shuying.

Honestly, why are all the good daughters from other people's families?

Once they left, the others dispersed as well.

This is the first time that a daughter-in-law has visited the Lu family's four sons.

It's fine for everyone to join in the fun, but we shouldn't ruin someone else's good time.

As soon as they left, Mr. and Mrs. Lu immediately dropped their pretense. One of the elderly people unbuttoned two buttons on his shirt, while the other sent their son to the kitchen to help. Then, the two of them pulled Jiang Jiani to sit down on the sofa. Without asking a single question about the Jiang family, they kept telling her about their son's embarrassing history from childhood to adulthood.

Lu's mother enthusiastically took out a photo album she had prepared beforehand: "Look, this was taken when Xiangyang was a full moon baby, and this was taken when he was a first birthday baby..."

Each of the four sons in the Lu family has such a photo album.

From the full moon until the family tragedy, almost every birthday was photographed, and each photo tells a story.

In the years when photography was extremely expensive, only the Lu family, with their good financial situation, could afford to take so many photos.

Unfortunately, the Lu family was unlucky. In early 1973, the Lu family ran into trouble, and Lu's father and mother were sent to a farm for three years, which interrupted the photography activity.

By the time they returned, the four children had all grown up and were no longer as agreeable as they were when they were little; taking photos was out of the question.

Lu's mother was filled with regret when she talked about this.

Jiang Jianni: "..."

Just as Jiang Jianni was overwhelmed by her future in-laws' enthusiasm, Lu's mother suddenly clapped her hands and said, "Oh right, we haven't given you the gift yet."

Jiang Jianni was stunned for a moment: "What kind of gift?"

Mr. Lu said, "It's a gift for the new bride's first visit to our home."

He sighed, “Your mother has been preparing four gifts for your daughter-in-law for many years, but in all these years, she hasn’t given her a single one.”

"You're the first one here. I prepared everything yesterday and checked it several times today, just in case I got too excited and forgot."

His wife thought that since none of them could be given away, his four sons would be left alone in their old age.

I didn't expect the third brother to be so helpful.

He secretly got a marriage certificate with the girl on the same day they met.

The elderly couple had speculated countless times about their third daughter-in-law in private, but when they actually met her, they felt fortunate that their third son had acted quickly, otherwise such a good daughter-in-law would have become someone else's.

As the two were talking, Aunt Lu came out with a smile, holding a red envelope and a brocade box.

Jiang Jiani's expression changed slightly upon seeing this.

Aunt Lu had already stuffed the red envelope and brocade box into her hands, urging expectantly, "Quick, take it, this is especially for you, don't let that brat Xiangyang find out."

Jiang Jianni could barely keep her smile going: "This, this, I, I can't accept it."

Although she didn't know what it was, she had just seen the label under the brocade box, and she recognized the three characters "Lao Feng Xiang" on it.

"No, you must accept it," said Aunt Lu, leaving no room for refusal.

"I prepared four portions of this, especially for my daughter-in-law."

“You are Xiangyang’s wife, this share is yours. When the eldest, second, and fourth sons get married in the future, their wives will also have a share.”

Mr. Lu chimed in from the side, "That's right, your mother said that in our Lu family, we must treat our daughters-in-law fairly and impartially, and we must never show favoritism."

Lu Xiangyang came out and called them to eat: "What are you doing? Time to eat."

Jiang Jianni looked at him like she had seen a savior: "Lu Xiangyang..."

Lu Xiangyang was stunned by his shout, then he saw what she was holding and immediately understood: "Oh, this? Just take it."

Fearing that Jiang Jiani might feel embarrassed, she added, "It's a gift from my parents, there's nothing shameful about it."
