Chapter 13 Let it go to your sister

Chapter 13 Give it to your sister

Jiang Jianni said in a righteous and stern manner, "Grandma, don't worry, when you go back, I will definitely have a good talk with my grandpa."

Grandma Jiang: "..."

Grandma Jiang was dizzy.

She didn't understand why Jiang Jianni had so much to say about just taking a shower.

Before she could even say that she hadn't never showered in her entire life, Jiang Jianni started listing all the downsides of not showering, such as itching, bacterial infections, inflammation, and even skin ulcers.

Jiang Jianni seemed oblivious to Grandma Jiang's pale face and continued, "Grandma, do you know what bacteria are? Bacteria are tiny insects that we can't see with our eyes, but we can see with a microscope."

"If the skin's protective layer is completely destroyed by these bacteria, ulcers, sores, and pus discharge are not the worst problems; in severe cases, it can even turn into skin cancer."

She looked at Grandma Jiang and asked, "Grandma, do you know what skin cancer is?"

"Skin cancer is a type of cancer, and cancer is an incurable disease that the whole world cannot cure at present."

"People with cancer can't take medicine, have surgery, practice traditional Chinese medicine, or treat Western medicine. They can only wait to die."

"They died in a particularly pitiful and terrifying way, all of them..."

Grandma Jiang shouted angrily, "Alright, that's enough."

Jiang Jianni looked bewildered: "Grandma, what are you doing? I'm doing this for your own good."

"You seem quite healthy now. I can let it go from now on, but you can't stop taking showers. From now on..."

Grandma Jiang couldn't help but reach out and slap her: "Shut up! Don't say another word!"

"Who hasn't showered? I shower every day. Stop talking."

She doesn't actually shower that often.

When I was younger, it was fine; if my skin felt sticky and uncomfortable, I would just wash it off.

But as I've gotten older, my body isn't as strong as it used to be. Even in the summer, I only take a shower once or twice a month at most, and in the winter, I only take one shower before the Lunar New Year.

Thinking of the dangers of not bathing that Jiang Jiani had mentioned, Grandma Jiang suddenly felt itchy all over.

Thinking back to how my mother-in-law was bedridden for several years, her body was covered in bedsores, and her skin was even itchier—as if it would develop bedsores too.

Seeing her mother-in-law's increasingly worse complexion, Yang Yuemei couldn't help but scold her, "Jia Ni, your grandmother is getting old. Don't say such nonsense to scare her."

Jiang Jianni retorted, "I'm not making this up, I'm telling the truth! Otherwise, why would I keep urging you to take a shower every three to five days?"

Due to poor bathing conditions and the high cost of medical treatment, many people at that time did not develop the habit of bathing regularly.

Summer is a bit better, because people sweat more in the summer and shower more frequently.

In winter, going to the public bathhouse once a month is considered very diligent. Some people, from autumn until the next summer, might only go once a year, around the Lunar New Year.

Jiang Jiani almost fainted when she realized this after she had transmigrated.

Later, he took the initiative to boil water, not only taking a bath himself, but also urging his family members to take baths. He even bought a stack of bath tickets, forcing the Jiang family members to take baths as well – no one was willing to spend the money on bath tickets.

Grandma Jiang's heart sank: "You, what you said is all true?"

Jiang Jianni retorted, "When did I ever say anything false?"

Grandma Jiang swayed slightly.

Yang Yuemei was startled and quickly helped her up: "Mom, Mom, are you alright? Don't listen to Jia Ni's nonsense, she's just trying to scare you."

Grandma Jiang slapped Yang Yuemei and scolded, "You're the one spouting nonsense."

"Jiani is a college student, why would she lie to me?"

"I think you're the one who's getting nowhere!"

She couldn't sit still any longer. She stood up and walked towards the door, saying, "Second son's wife, hurry up and pack your things. Come with me to the bathhouse."

"I'll find a master to give me a good massage later."

There are no filial sons at the bedside of a chronically ill patient.

She doesn't want to end up like her mother-in-law.

Although Yang Yuemei was anxious about Jiang Jiani's situation at the Lu family, she had no choice but to compromise in the face of her unreasonable mother-in-law.

As soon as the two of them left, Jiang Yanni immediately came out and gave Jiang Jiani a thumbs up: "Second sister, you're amazing!"

Jiang Haiyang also came out: "Second sister, Grandma said she'll be staying at our house for a week, so be careful."

Jiang Yanni looked displeased: "Didn't she say she was relying on her third uncle for retirement? What's she doing at our house?"

Jiang Jianni shooed her away: "Have you finished your homework yet? Stop yelling like that and go do your homework!"

Jiang Yanni stomped her foot angrily: "Second sister, you're going to make me so angry, hmph."

She went inside and slammed the door shut.

Jiang Haiyang pushed up his glasses and said in a low voice, "Second sister, be careful. I think Grandma's visit this time is not friendly; she's here for you."

"When I came back, I heard her asking my mom and brother-in-law about their family."

“Mom said she didn’t know, and she even scolded Mom for being a bad mother. Be careful, she might be up to something.”

Before entering, the young man hesitated and added, "Second sister, no matter what Grandma says, just ignore her. She's just being unreasonable and won't do anything serious."

"If she tells you to ask the Lu family for a very high dowry or something, you, you shouldn't listen to her."

"She's not doing it for your own good, she's harming you."

Jiang Jianni laughed and pushed him into the house: "Alright, old man, I know what I'm doing. Go back and do your homework. You'll be taking the college entrance exam next year, so work hard and try to get into a good university."

Jiang Haiyang chuckled and scratched his head.

Jiang Jianni also tidied herself up.

She thought the day would just pass like this.

At most, it's just that Jiang's mother is staying with the sisters for the next few days, and it's a bit cramped for the three of them to sleep in one room.

Unexpectedly, after she had already crawled into bed, Grandma Jiang pulled her out again: "Put on your clothes, I have something to tell you."

Jiang Jianni, suppressing her impatience, put on her clothes, sat down on the sofa, and asked, "What is it?"

Grandma Jiang looked radiant after taking a bath, showing no signs of having nearly fainted from fright: "Your mother said you went to your boyfriend's house today. What do his parents do?"

Jiang Jianni couldn't help but frown: "Is that all? Can't we talk about it tomorrow? What time is it? I have class tomorrow."

Grandma Jiang slammed her cane down and shouted, "Just say what I told you to say! What are you rambling on about?"

Jiang's father quickly said, "Jiani, just tell me. I'd also like to know about your in-laws' situation."

Yang Yuemei glanced at the wall clock: "Don't you usually go to bed at eleven o'clock? It's only ten o'clock now, so tell me."

Jiang Jianni couldn't do anything about her parents: "They're both retired, with four brothers. He's the third oldest, and the other three aren't married yet. They bought a house this afternoon, that's all."

Grandma Jiang immediately perked up: "You went to buy a house this afternoon?"

Jiang Jianni nodded.

Grandma Jiang immediately said, "Jiani, your boyfriend is quite good."

"In that case, you should give this opportunity to your sister."

“Your sister doesn’t have as high an education as you, nor does she have as good a job. You should give Lu Xiangyang to your sister and find someone with better conditions.”

What do you think?
