After struggling with the situation for the past few days, Yun's mother finally told Yun Qi about the trouble caused by her daughter-in-law's mother.
After listening to his mother talk about his mother-in-law, whom he had never met, Yunqi felt a dark cloud hanging over him.
She didn't know whether to thank her mother for caring about her and sending so many things to her mother-in-law, or to complain that she shouldn't have spoiled her mother's appetite.
"It's alright, the gift has been given. After all, she's Cheng-ge's mother." Seeing that his mother was still a little uneasy, Yunqi couldn't bear to say anything more. No wonder his parents looked at the two of them several times as if they wanted to say something but then stopped when they came back this time.
Seeing that her daughter didn't blame her, Yun's mother breathed a sigh of relief. "At the time, I just thought I couldn't let her ruin your reputation, especially since they just came from the city. Everything here needs to be prepared anew, and it must be because of the severe shortage of supplies that they came here to cause trouble. I thought it would be better for both of them to give her some things."
Yunqi stepped forward and hugged his mother. "My mother is the kindest mother. But from now on, her affairs should be handled by my husband and me. We can't let you worry about us now that we're all grown up."
Yun's mother's eyes were red; her husband had been talking about her a lot lately.
Seeing her like this, Yunqi quickly changed the subject, "Mom, where are Junjun and Lele?"
"They're incredibly capable now; they can find their great-grandfather's house on their own without anyone guiding them." Sure enough, when talking about her two little darlings, Mother Yun's face was full of pride.
"These two little rascals are only good now that they're in the village. If they were out before, they would have been chased away by kidnappers as soon as they went out. We'll have to teach them a lesson when they get back. They're getting more and more unruly." Yunqi stopped worrying when he heard that they were going to his second grandfather's house. These two little devils can only be controlled by him and his wife at home. Their grandparents spoil them too much, and they've started to become lawless.
Yun's mother was not happy to hear this. "These children are only two years old. How do you expect them to behave? When you were their age, you were just playing around like an idiot. You ran all over the village."
Yunqi really didn't remember these things, but there was one thing she did remember: when she was little, her grandmother often took her to visit neighbors all over the village. That period was the most carefree time for her. Later, when she went to junior high school with her parents, she was surrounded by textbooks all day long, so those memories from before became even more precious.
"It's true what they say about grandparents spoiling their grandchildren. My grandparents also pampered me like that when I was little. It's a pity they didn't get to enjoy that happiness," Yun Qi said with some sadness.
"Yes, what a wonderful elderly couple. We owe them so much for all those years. All the elderly people later devoted all their energy to their descendants." Yun's mother was truly grateful to her parents-in-law.
Yunqi thought of her troublesome mother-in-law and suddenly felt a headache coming on. Not every elderly person is considerate of their younger generation; this is a case in point.
Honestly, if she didn't make a fuss, Brother Cheng might have helped her a little out of consideration for their shared parenthood. But her constant jumping around made him a little apprehensive, which actually pushed their relationship further apart.
Yunqi then thought of the fact that the water source in Gaojia Village seemed to be insufficient. Although their village had also dug a reservoir for water storage, it didn't have the same guarantee as Pinghe Village, which had a large lake right at its doorstep. If there was a water shortage there, all sorts of troubles would follow.
"Mom, let's continue to stock up on food these next few days. We exchanged all the stuff we took on this trip for salt, which will free up a lot of space." Forget about the future headaches for now; Yunqi just wanted to do more things to distract himself.
“That works too. We’ll be harvesting the crops in a few days, so let’s prepare a lot so we don’t feel like cooking later.” Yun’s mother now enjoys following Yun Qi’s lead in all sorts of things, and Yun Qi’s space is just too convenient. Food goes in and comes out exactly the same way, which is even more convenient than ordering takeout.
When Yun's father returned, he saw the mother and son making a ruckus in the kitchen again. He then glanced into the children's room and found that Junjun and Lele were not playing there. He guessed where they had run off to. After washing his hands, he went directly to his second uncle's house to bring them back.
"Uncle Ming, you're here." Yun Xun was tidying up the vegetable garden in the yard with his younger brother. As soon as he saw Yun Zhiming, he knew that he had come to take the two siblings back.
"Are they tidying up the vegetable garden? What are they planning to plant next?" Yun Zhiming stopped and asked Yun Xun.
"I plan to plant a little of each kind of vegetable. It's easier to grow vegetables at home since water is readily available."
"It's good to plant some vegetables. We can use the leftover water at home to irrigate them, which is quite convenient." Yun Zhiming also agreed with this approach. Currently, there's no way to bring water into the fields. If they want to plant some grain next season, they'll have to rely entirely on carrying water for irrigation. Fortunately, they managed to plant one season beforehand. If they had given up because they were afraid of winter, the following days would have been even more difficult.
"Grandpa!" Junjun and Lele, who were playing with their second great-grandfather in the room, ran out as soon as they heard their grandfather's voice.
“You two ungrateful little brats, you betrayed us the moment you heard your grandfather’s voice.” Second Grandfather also came out with them.
"Second Uncle, these two little rascals are bothering you again." Yun Zhiming greeted his second uncle, holding one of his nephews in each hand.
"What's the trouble? Their arrival makes our house much more lively." Second Grandma also came out. It had been a long time since there were children in the house, and Jingjing and Lele's arrival was just what brought some joy to the old couple.
"Our Xiaoxun is getting on in years, and he didn't find anyone he liked this time?" You know, this trip back and forth has led to several weddings in the village.
"That blockhead of his, he's such a worrywart. All his good friends have found someone. He's still like a clueless greenhorn, I wonder when we'll ever get to hold our great-grandson. Could you keep an eye out for us and have him go on a date with any nice girls you see?" Second Grandma really wanted a great-grandson, and every time she saw Junjun and Lele, she couldn't help but imagine what her great-grandson would look like.
“Grandpa, Grandma, you have more than one grandson, there’s also Yuntao, isn’t there?” Yun Xun straightened up and pointed to Yuntao not far away.
"Brother, that's not fair of you. Besides, how can the younger brother be the one to run off before the older brother gets married? I'm still young." Yun Tao quickly defended himself when he saw his brother shifting the blame onto him.
Seeing his two brothers clowning around and making their second uncle and the others laugh, Yun Zhizhong couldn't help but laugh along.
