Chapter 346 Cousin

Gao Dongxing excitedly ran to the village entrance. It was still early, as he had agreed to meet Cen Ran. Although he knew Cen Ran wouldn't arrive there so soon, he was still somewhat disappointed.

"Dongxing, you can't wait to be a groom, why haven't we seen the bride yet?" The two young men on duty here started teasing him.

"She went back to her old place to pack some things. It's still early, so she shouldn't be there for a while." Gao Dongxing didn't mind the jokes and explained to the other person in a good mood.

"So you got a wife for free? I heard it was buy one get one free?" Godfrey Gao asked curiously.

"That's because Xiaoran only has one younger sister. We can't just leave her to fend for herself outside."

Godfrey Gao gave Gao Dongxing a thumbs up, saying, "He's a real man. But the burden on his family is also greater now, and the pressure will be immense in the future."

Upon hearing this, Gao Dongxing's straight shoulders slumped slightly. "That's right. We don't even know what's going on with the crops in the fields right now. We're eating wild vegetables and mushrooms every day, it's driving us crazy."

"But this is good. Having a wife can help you a little, and if all else fails, you can raise some livestock." Godfrey Gao patted his shoulder comfortingly. Actually, sometimes the villagers felt quite sorry for Gao Dongxing.

Unlike other families in the village, Gao Dongxing's family did not keep livestock. The reason was even somewhat ridiculous: Gao Shuzhen said she was afraid of livestock and couldn't stand the smell, so her family refused to keep them.

However, they hadn't skimped on the chicken that Gao Zian had given them before, so many people in the village looked down on Gao Shuzhen's behavior.

Gao Dongxing felt a little awkward talking about it. At first, he was somewhat disgusted with it, but after a period of hardship, he realized how precious these poultry were. He wanted to raise some himself, but he had been harassed by his uncle's family and couldn't bring himself to ask.

As for exchanging some with other villagers to raise livestock, the family didn't have anything worthwhile to offer, and they were too embarrassed to borrow, so the matter was delayed.

Now that Godfrey Gao has brought this up, I feel even more that finding a wife is a good thing. Although she has a younger sister, she can still help out in some ways.

She was even more excited about the arrival of the Cen sisters, and began to chat absentmindedly with Godfrey Gao while planning her wonderful future life in her mind.

Godfrey Gao was secretly winking at his companion, but Gao Dongxing didn't notice at all, and kept glancing at the village entrance.

"Dongxing, is that your new wife? But weren't there two of you? How come there are three?" Gao Yunxiang was the first to notice the three people who came into view.

"I don't know either." Gao Dongxing was also stumped and tried to identify the other person carefully.

As the person opposite him drew closer, Gao Dongxing finally saw that it was the person he was supposed to pick up. But what was with the middle-aged woman beside him?

"Dongxing, this is my younger sister, Cen Xiang." Cen Qi introduced her sister to Gao Dongxing as soon as she walked in. After the introduction, she looked at the middle-aged woman next to her, not knowing how to continue.

"Xiao Xiang, hello there! I've heard your sister mention you before, you really are a pretty little girl." Gao Dongxing looked at the ten-year-old girl and bent down to greet her.

Cen Xiang, with her small and thin body, secretly hid behind her older sister, looking at the young man in front of her with some fear.

"She's a little shy, but she'll get used to it after spending some time with her," Cen Ran said apologetically to Gao Dongxing, patting her younger sister's head.

"It's alright, she's just a child. She'll get used to it after a few days." Gao Dongxing noticed that Cen Ran hadn't introduced the women beside her, so he assumed they were just passing by and invited Cen Ran to come into the village with him.

“Dongxing,” Cen Ran grabbed Gao Dongxing’s arm, somewhat afraid to look at him. “This is my aunt, she’s always been with us.”

"Is your aunt worried about you and came to check on our environment?" Gao Dongxing was stunned for a moment and asked her blankly.

Cen Ran nervously gripped the hem of her clothes, took a deep breath, and said, "My aunt has always helped my sister and me. I was wondering if she could come into the village with us?"

Gao Dongxing frowned as he looked at her. "We agreed before that I would only bring your sister, and my house is just a small place, there's not enough room for everyone."

“I don’t need a lot of space, just a corner will do,” Cen Ran’s aunt quickly said. “Besides, I can do things; I can do all the work in the fields.”

"Xiao Ran, you're putting me in a difficult position." Gao Dongxing looked at Cen Ran with some anger. "I've already agreed with the village and my family that I'll only take two people in. Now there's one more. How am I supposed to handle this? Besides, you know how scarce food is right now. My family is barely getting enough to eat. We simply can't feed so many people."

"Dongxing, I have no choice. I can't just leave my aunt there to live alone. Besides, all three of us can work, we're sure we can find our own food." Cen Ran pleaded with Gao Dongxing in a low voice. She had no choice. If she had said there were three of them from the beginning, no matter how beautiful she was, no one would have taken her in.

Seeing the three people opposite him looking at him with expectant and pleading eyes, Gao Dongxing felt a little soft-hearted.

"Dongxing, you'd better go back to the village and ask the villagers, and your mother too. Besides, we only received a notice that two people could go in, not that there would be three." Gao Yixiang, as a fellow villager, kindly reminded Gao Dongxing.

After all, every household has limited food supplies these days, and with three more people suddenly added to the family, Gao Dongxing's family simply couldn't afford it.

Godfrey Gao's reminder to Gao Dongxing was also to give him a chance to maneuver and time to think about the issue, so that he wouldn't agree impulsively.

“Yes, this matter needs the village’s approval. And my mother doesn’t know that there’s suddenly an extra person. I need to go back and discuss it.” Gao Dongxing seemed to have found his backbone. Without waiting for Cen Ran to speak, he turned and ran towards the village.

"Xiao Ran, if it really doesn't work, you and Xiao Xiang should go in." Cen Ran's aunt was genuinely thinking of her two nieces; she couldn't let this opportunity slip away because of herself.

"Auntie, let's wait and see. Maybe there will be another chance. Otherwise, where can you go by yourself? If they don't let you in, we can just continue living our old lives."

Cen Ran played a little trick on Gao Dongxing. If she had said from the beginning that she was bringing two people, Gao Dongxing would have turned around and left immediately.

Now she's gambling, gambling on Gao Dongxing's attitude. If it doesn't work out, she can only find a place to settle down nearby and slowly work things out with Gao Dongxing. Her aunt has taken care of her and her sister so much along the way, and is now her and her sister's only family in the world. The three of them must stay together no matter what.
