Huang Yun gripped the wall tightly with her fingers, struggling to resist the urge to rush out.
"Why haven't they come back yet? We've been waiting here for so long." The gate to the wall here is open during the day, but the wooden bridge over the deep pit has been removed. If anyone wants to come to this area, Baijia Village will be able to find them immediately.
The walls around the villages are now practically useless; they are simply closed again at night.
"It won't be that quick. We need to chat with them for a while before we can get to the point. But the single young men in Pinghe Village are really popular. We've asked people to mediate so many times, but we haven't succeeded even once." Sister-in-law Shi is really worried about her niece this time.
"I wonder if Sister-in-law Wang is any good? What if she finds a better match and saves him for her own niece?"
Sister-in-law Shi said, "She can't afford to ruin her reputation; she wants to continue down the path of matchmaking for a long time."
"But her niece is really pitiful. The three families who went up the mountain and didn't come back are always keeping an eye on them, and now no one dares to go to their door to propose marriage."
Huang Yun wasn't interested in listening to the gossip that followed. Seeing that they weren't paying attention to them, she quietly left along the corner of the wall.
Her mind was filled with the words that Sister-in-law Shi and the others had just used to mock her. She wanted to run over and ask Liu Xiaoli if these rumors were true.
But she already had the answer in her heart. She thought that for so long, it seemed that only she had been making sacrifices, while the other party had only talked the talk but never taken any action.
She felt completely bewildered. It turned out that the best friend she thought she had made was actually plotting against her behind her back.
Thinking of the villagers' ridicule and Liu Xiaoli's scheming, Huang Yun didn't know where he could go and, as if possessed, ended up in the farmland behind the mountain.
It was lunchtime, and there wasn't a soul in the fields.
Looking at his family's moist land, Huang Yun knew that it was all thanks to the three of them, father and sons, carrying loads up the mountain to irrigate it.
I was already out of breath from walking up the mountain, and they had to carry heavy loads, which shows how much labor they were doing.
Thinking about how I hadn't paid much attention to the three of them, and even how I had given away the food that could help them improve their health, I felt incredibly regretful.
She rarely goes out alone, and at this moment she was also distracted, so she didn't notice that a small, greenish-blue snake, about the thickness of a thumb, was approaching her.
As night fell, Si Zhengwei, who had initially been somewhat nonchalant, began to feel uneasy.
He said to the two brothers, Si Ming, "You two go to the village and look for your mother. It's already dark, why isn't she back yet?"
"Did she go to see Liu Xiaoli again?" Si Liang looked towards the location of Liu Xiaoli's house, only to find that it was already pitch black there.
Si Liang: "The engines are all completely shut down over there, so we probably won't be staying overnight, right?"
Si Zhengwei said, "Their family only has two rooms, and they can barely fit their own people in them. There's no room for your mother. Don't just stand here, go and check on her."
Just as they were about to go out to search, someone ran over and grabbed Si Ming's hand, "Si Ming, hurry, something has happened to your mother."
Si Zhengwei and Si Liang quickly caught up, asking, "What did you just say?"
Wang Liyuan didn't even have time to greet them. "When we were patrolling the back mountain, we heard someone shouting for help. We followed the sound and found Sister Si sitting on the edge of the field calling for help."
Si Zhengwei breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. As long as she was alive, there wasn't much of a problem. Besides, what danger could there be in the back mountain? "Why did she go up the mountain instead of going home after dark?"
Seeing that the father and his two sons weren't in a hurry, Wang Liyuan shouted, "She's been bitten by a snake!"
Si Ming: "She was bitten by a snake? Didn't we give her a snake repellent pack? How come there are still snakes getting close to her?"
Wang Liyuan said, "I don't know. You guys should go and take a look. We don't know what kind of snake bit her yet, so no one dares to move her."
Si Zhengwei turned around and went back into the room. When he came out, he was carrying a flashlight, which Si Cheng had brought to him along with the supplies last time.
Wang Liyuan hadn't seen this kind of light source in a long time, and as he followed behind Si Zhengwei, his eyes kept drifting towards the flashlight.
It seems that Accountant Si really has some good stuff. Village Chief Si is really good to his old father.
Upon seeing their arrival, Huang Yun sat down and burst into tears, crying, "This is it, I'm doomed, I won't live much longer."
Seeing Huang Yun with snot and tears streaming down her face, Si Zhengwei felt a little uncomfortable. "She's still alive and well, why are you saying such discouraging things?"
As he spoke, Si Zhengwei shone a flashlight up her head and down, asking, "Didn't you say you were bitten by a snake? Where were you bitten?"
While crying, Huang Yun pointed to her right big toe, "Look how swollen it is, my whole foot is completely numb now."
Si Zhengwei then focused the light on her big toe, and saw that the entire toe was black and swollen, making one shudder just looking at it.
Fortunately, she still had some common sense and knew to tear off her sleeves and tie them around her legs.
"What are you doing here? And didn't I give you the snake-repelling cannon before? Didn't you bring it with you?" Si Zhengwei questioned her as soon as he saw that she was not in immediate danger.
Huang Yun instinctively touched her pocket, and the empty feeling reminded her that just two days ago, Liu Xiaoli had borrowed her medicine bag.
I remember what she said to Liu Xiaoli back then, "Anyway, I don't need this in the village, so don't bother with lending it to me, just take it and use it!"
Now, thinking back on those words, she feels like slapping herself a few times.
Seeing her constantly changing expression, Si Zhengwei roughly guessed the truth.
He pointed at Huang Yun with his hand, saying, "Keep acting up, and see if your luck will keep improving every time. If you hadn't run into Captain Wang and his men this time, would you have died a truly unjust death?"
Seeing that Accountant Si was still making accusations, Wang Liyuan quickly reminded him, "Let's take her away first! We might have to seek help from Pinghe Village for her snake venom."
They had tried to send Huang Yun down the mountain before, but Huang Yun refused to leave no matter what. Captain Wang had no choice but to go down the mountain alone and call Accountant Si and the others over.
I never expected that this couple would start arguing as soon as they met. Don't they even realize what the situation is like?
Reminded by Captain Wang, Huang Yun started howling while clutching her right leg again. When she heard that she had to go to Pinghe Village to find a doctor for treatment, she screamed even louder.
"Mom, come on, I'll carry you home." Si Ming stood in front of Huang Yun with his back to her, thinking about getting down the mountain as soon as possible to get the medicine.
"Do you know what kind of snake bit you?" Only then did Si Zhengwei remember to ask about the type of snake.
