Chapter 21 Inspection

After saying goodbye to my parents and returning to work, everything was back on track.

The two stored the pre-ordered shelves in their online space. The shelves were made to order, with the bottom shelf being two meters high, and five more shelves stacked on top, creating a lot of extra space. After setting up the shelves, the two began shopping online at their leisure.

Over the weekend, the two drove around the surrounding rural areas, purchasing supplies in various locations. To avoid attracting attention, they bought in batches, claiming the cost would be shared among all relatives. They accepted everything, from crops to poultry, even buying several pigs, which were slaughtered and cut into pieces. Living creatures couldn't be kept in the space. Yunqi had experimented before; they were fine initially, and he thought they could survive, but they all died the next day. It seemed keeping living things in the space was impossible. Therefore, Yunqi focused on storing meat for future consumption. After all, grains could be grown, and as long as the space existed, there would be a continuous supply of food.

This weekend, Si Cheng picked up Yun Qi early. The two had ordered a batch of seasonings from a grain store, which they claimed was for a supermarket, and the goods had arrived. They rented a small truck and went to the agreed location to pick them up. The grain store owner was very welcoming, even inviting them to do business with him again if they needed anything. However, Yun Qi and his companion didn't want to continue ordering from there; doing so too often would arouse suspicion.

After storing the goods, the two finished their meal and returned home. As soon as they entered the house, Si Cheng said to Yun Qi in a very serious tone, "I suspect there may be another reborn person, and this reborn person may have already told the country about this matter."

Why would you say that?

"I've noticed a lot of grain arriving at the port lately, all purchased from various countries. While we've imported grain before, it's mainly been beans. But now, I've found there's no limit to the types; the orders are placed under the names of food processing companies. We've worked with these companies before; they all have their own production bases and partner bases, enough to supply their production lines. I even jokingly asked the CEO of one of these companies, saying that their business is getting bigger and bigger, and the domestic market can't even meet their needs anymore. Guess what he said?"

"This food was not ordered by them."

“My Qi Bao is still so smart. His answer was that he was helping the government allocate the grain, because the country is increasing its grain reserves. Because of this, I even went to ask my friends. Grain exports have been restricted since the beginning of this year. It seems we need to be even more careful,” Si Cheng said, patting Yun Qi’s head.

“Then we can’t buy in such large quantities anymore! Tomorrow I’ll open an online shopping account using my parents’ identities and slowly buy some items that we need to store for a long time and send them back to our hometown. That way, we can accumulate a lot little by little over time.”

"Yes, let's take it slow. If there really is a reborn person, he should be able to contact the higher-ups. He did things that we dare not do, and he told the country about these things so that everyone can make preparations in advance, which can also reduce losses."

"Yes, every time I think about keeping this secret, I feel uneasy. I don't know if it's certain that there are other reborn people. If the country hasn't reacted by this time next year, let's make this public online."

Si Cheng nodded. "Yes, we also need to find a way to convince our relatives and friends to stay away from dangerous areas and stockpile as many supplies as possible."

After discussing it for a while, the two brought up the matter of taking wedding leave. The wedding date was set just a few days before May Day, so they took their annual leave and wedding leave together, which would give them plenty of time during the May Day holiday.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Once Yunqi was able to get out of bed, she cursed him as a beast. Sicheng quickly and obsequiously took her shoes and bent down to help Yunqi put them on.

"We don't seem to be using contraception, will someone get sick?!"

"If you're pregnant, just have the baby," Si Cheng comforted her.

"But I'm afraid that if I give birth to him, he will suffer with us."

"Why would you think that? We've encountered mothers with children in the apocalypse before. In such environments, people are actually better able to train children's survival skills. Besides, with us here, we can definitely protect him and help him grow up safely."

"Do you think we should go to the hospital for a checkup? It seems like we were together for so many years in our past life and we still couldn't get pregnant. I don't know why."

“It’s probably related to the apocalypse. Didn’t you see that fewer children were born in those years? Maybe in that harsh environment, everyone’s nutrition was inadequate, so it was impossible for them to get pregnant,” Si Cheng comforted her.

“If that’s the case, then we should get our bodies checked and try to have our baby before the apocalypse.” Yunqi loves children and has always wanted a child together.

"Okay! Let's go for a check-up together tomorrow."

The next day, the couple arrived at the hospital early. After a series of tests and waiting, the results came back, and both of them were fine. The doctor advised them to relax and approach conception with a calm mindset, as this would greatly increase their chances of success.

Since it was about preparing for pregnancy, Yunqi also asked the doctor to prescribe fertility medications such as vitamin C and folic acid.

"Looks like I'll have to go back and work overtime to welcome our little prince as soon as possible."

"Why are you still sexist? If I had a daughter, would you not like her?" Yun Qi asked fiercely, hands on his hips.

"Of course I love the little princess, but I can't bear to see her suffer. It's different if it's a boy; boys can take a beating."

Yunqi fell silent. Yes, he was reluctant to part with either the little princess or the little prince, but he would do his best to raise them.

"By the way, Auntie called earlier to ask if we'd taken our wedding photos yet, and if we'd taken time off work." Seeing her downcast mood, Si Cheng quickly changed the subject.

"Yes, we haven't taken wedding photos yet. Let's go check it out later. There seems to be a wedding photography studio at the intersection ahead. I'm thinking of taking outdoor photos by the sea, since we don't know if we'll ever have the chance to see the beautiful ocean again." Well, this is another heavy topic. Si Cheng grabbed Yunqi's left hand while driving. "We'll definitely have the chance to see it again. Even if it's a natural disaster, as long as we overcome it, the world will still be created by humankind."

Seeing the beautiful white wedding dresses at the bridal shop instantly lifted my spirits. After trying on several dresses recommended by the staff, I chose a few outfits based on my preferences and what suited me best, and then booked a date for the photoshoot.
