Si Cheng really hadn't considered moving to another place. Knowing that the other party's offer was already the best he could get, he still politely declined.
Although Leader Kuang was somewhat disappointed, he didn't insist. After chatting for a few minutes, he was called away by the others.
"Brother, thank goodness you didn't agree." After everyone had walked away, Yun Jianying patted his chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
Si Cheng tapped him on the head. "What are you thinking about all day? I haven't even sorted out our village yet, how could I possibly agree to their terms?"
“Yes, we have so many things to do in our village, we’re too busy to handle them all.” Sun Shaofeng nodded quickly. “Besides, those people outside our village are living more comfortably, why would they want to come out and create trouble for themselves?”
Now that you mention it, it does seem to make sense. Our village has many advantages, otherwise so many people wouldn't crowd over there and refuse to leave.
The two began to sing in unison, listing all the good things about Pinghe Village, as if afraid that Sicheng would be lured away by someone else.
Si Cheng glared at them, annoyed. "Instead of idly chatting here, why don't you hurry up and help? Can't you see they've already found work?"
Yun Jianying and Sun Shaofeng then noticed that the villagers around them had somehow gone over to find something to do and were helping out.
Si Cheng saw that they had all found their own things to do before turning to leave. He still wanted to go outside the city to see if there were any clues at the site of the previous explosion. He always felt that Dong Ge would be a major hidden danger in the future, and it would be good to learn more about him.
Ah Kun, who had taken advantage of the chaos to hide in a corner as soon as he entered the city, witnessed his cousin and Dong Ge being chased. His heart was in his throat the whole time, and he only relaxed when he heard that Dong Ge and the others had escaped.
Although he wanted Dong Ge to be arrested, he also knew that his cousin's heart belonged to him, so he could only pray in his heart that Dong Ge could escape successfully.
He glanced out of the city a few times before turning and walking in the direction he had chosen. From now on, he would have to face the future alone, and he would have to build a good life for himself and also leave a way out for his cousin.
Yun Zhixin was awakened by the pain of his wound in the middle of the night, and then he felt his mouth was dry and he couldn't even speak.
Yun Jianying, who was guarding his bedside, was fast asleep, completely unaware that the person in the bed had woken up.
Yun Zhixin never expected to get caught in a trap on his first mission. His luck was truly indescribable. Although he was annoyed, he was extremely thirsty and couldn't lift his arm near Yun Jianying. He could only stare blankly and suffer in silence.
Yun Jianying, who was sleeping soundly, suddenly started snoring as if on purpose. Yun Zhixin lowered his eyes to look at him, then lifted his foot and gave the bed a hard shake.
"What happened? An earthquake?" Yun Jianying jumped up, waking up the patients in the beds next to him.
"Sorry, sorry, I disturbed everyone's rest." He immediately realized where he was and quickly apologized to the people around him.
Yun Zhixin was surprised that Yun Jianying was so careless, not even checking on his condition. He could only raise his uninjured left hand and wave it in the air.
"Uncle, you're awake." Yun Jianying finally noticed the wounded man he was taking care of. He was about to say something when he saw the man pointing to his cracked lips, and then he realized what was going on.
"Uncle, are you thirsty? You need some water!"
Yun Zhixin nodded quickly. He realized that his throat was parched and he desperately needed water.
Yun Jianying quickly added warm water to the water she had prepared before feeding him, and only put him down when he shook his head.
"Are you feeling unwell anywhere?" Yun Jianying asked, touching his forehead to check his temperature.
Yun Zhixin pointed to his wound and said in a hoarse voice, "This part of my arm is sore and numb, but otherwise there's nothing wrong. How long have I been asleep?"
Yun Jianying raised his hand to look at his watch. "It's already three in the morning. You've been sleeping all day. Do you want to eat something first? There's some porridge here specifically for the wounded."
After hearing what he said, Yun Zhixin also felt his stomach rumbling.
Seeing him nod, Yun Jianying quickly got up and filled a bowl of thick porridge for him. After the bowl of porridge was down his throat, Yun Zhixin felt a little bit of his strength return.
"Where are your brother Cheng and the others?"
"They rested at yesterday's camp, and they've spent the whole day searching for traces of Dong Ge and his men in the vicinity."
"I've dragged you all down this time and delayed your schedule," Yun Zhixin said with some guilt. He hadn't expected that his first mission would cause such a hindrance.
"Who would have thought of this? And it's not your fault, it's all because that Brother Dong was too arrogant," Yun Jianying quickly comforted him.
"You should rest well first. The wound will heal faster if you rest well." Yun Jianying was really bad at comforting people, and he didn't know how to talk to an elder, so he could only advise him to rest more.
Yun Zhixin was indeed unable to resist, so he nodded, closed his eyes, and immediately fell into a deep sleep.
By daybreak the next day, the land that had been covered in blood had been cleaned up, and apart from the newly covered soil, there was no trace of yesterday's bloodshed.
After a whole night of hard work, Wang Letian and his team completed the count of yesterday's casualties.
His bloodshot eyes stared at the densely packed list, wishing he could turn back time and grind Dong Ge and his gang to dust long ago.
"With so many people, I really don't know how to explain this to their families." They all know what a strong laborer in the family represents at this time, especially since many of them are only children.
"Compensate them for the houses we built earlier first, and give priority to these people once our base is established." Leader Kuang glanced at the list in his hand and gave the limit of what he could offer at the moment.
"But this means we don't have enough manpower. The losses this time have been too great." Lieutenant Wang looked at the number of people lost and the wounded soldiers, and realized that they were severely short-handed.
"It's a pity that Village Chief Si and the others are unwilling to join us. Otherwise, with their abilities, we wouldn't be in such a predicament." Wang Letian still felt it was a pity.
Leader Kuang said, "Everyone has their own ambitions, and you can't force these things. Besides, although they usually stay in the village, they at least help stabilize that area. And he also promised us that if needed, we can still ask them to come and help."
Wang Letian also thought it made sense, "But we still need to recruit people. Should we recruit from the local population or from the refugees outside?"
People are currently somewhat resistant to refugees from outside, and it's unclear what kind of people will be recruited. If they are people with ill intentions, it could lead to another period of turmoil.
