Habits are truly strange. I woke up at that time on my own. Li Xiao saw that the sky outside the window was still pitch black, and decided to sleep a little longer, but found that she could no longer fall asleep.
He sat up and saw that Tian Tian was still asleep. He quietly got out of bed, tiptoed out the door and downstairs.
To my surprise, there was light downstairs; it turned out the men downstairs had all gotten up.
"Xiaoxiao, why are you up so early? Why didn't you sleep a little longer?"
Cheng Shaolin, who was sitting in a chair, turned around when he heard the noise and saw Li Xiao coming downstairs.
"I'm awake, but I can't fall back asleep." It seems like we're all early risers, sitting and thinking.
Xiao Peng came out of the kitchen. "Xiaoxiao, are you hungry? Would you like some porridge?"
He was making breakfast in the kitchen, and Li Xiao quickly ran over to see what he was doing.
There's porridge, and they're making pancakes. They can't steam buns or dumplings because they don't have a steamer.
Li Xiao looked at Xiao Peng, her big eyes blinking in the dim light.
“I have it,” Li Xiao whispered.
Xiao Peng glanced outside and shook his head.
Li Xiao chuckled. The two of them were exchanging cryptic remarks like thieves, which was quite amusing. They even found themselves laughing.
The two were laughing loudly in the kitchen, and the people sitting outside also laughed.
"I didn't expect the young lady to be so easy to get along with."
Cheng Shaolin glanced at him sideways, "What, Xiaoxiao has always been very likable."
Yu Yanbin laughed, "Yes, yes, no one can compare. You're just afraid others won't know, is it really necessary?"
Cheng Shaolin ignored him and leaned back in his chair to rest.
Yu Yanbin chuckled and stopped teasing him.
They're all acquaintances; everyone knows each other. They've known each other for a while and are fairly familiar with one another.
They were in the same school, one year ahead of Cheng Shaolin, and both were top students. They often bumped into each other at events and gradually became familiar with one another.
After getting to know each other, we found we got along quite well.
Both of them are meticulous and perceptive. When it comes to relationships, they are the type to give their all if they like someone, without hiding their feelings.
We get along well, and as we spent more time together, we gradually developed a relationship. We're not particularly close friends, but we'd say we're good friends.
They were both surprised to run into each other again in Yingzhou. Such a coincidence is rare.
Cheng Shaolin was planning to take a plane to pick up Li Xiao, but when he got to the airport, he found that the plane was canceled. So he drove to Mingcheng and ran into Yu Yanbin, who was there on business.
Both of them felt that it would be better and less dangerous to go together, so they decided to go to Mingcheng with Cheng Shaolin and then return to Beijing.
Unexpectedly, this encounter led to an even better relationship between the two.
It's undeniable that this is fate between these two.
Yu Yanbin knew a little about Cheng Shaolin's affairs, but not much. Cheng Shaolin wouldn't tell him these things.
He had a general understanding of what kind of person Cheng Shaolin was.
Inside the kitchen, people were still whispering amongst themselves, while those sitting outside were resting with their eyes closed; the atmosphere was harmonious.
People gradually got up and came downstairs. I was surprised to see them all up so early, and I thought something had happened.
"Get up, everyone, come and have breakfast." Li Xiao invited everyone to sit down at the table. Everything was ready and they could eat.
"Xiaoxiao, why didn't you call me? You got up by yourself first," Tian Tian complained, pouting.
"You were sleeping so well, so I didn't wake you. It's rare for you to get a good night's sleep, why would I wake you?"
Tian Tian still felt embarrassed, because she hadn't done anything while everyone else had been working for a long time.
"It's okay, sleep as much as you can. You won't wake me up next time either."
Tian Tian was then happy, "Okay, I won't call you next time either."
Seeing the two of them bickering, everyone else laughed too.
I had a very satisfying breakfast. The porridge was cooked perfectly, not too dry or too watery, and I was very happy with it.
With cheerful hearts, those who had things to do went out to attend to their own business.
Soon, there was no one left upstairs or downstairs.
Tian Tian, Li Xiao, and Qiu Fengyu went to wander around the base, while the others went to gather information. As for Zhou Lingyu and the others, no one paid any attention to them.
Surprisingly, the base was almost the same as before the apocalypse, with shops, stalls, and general stores everywhere.
After asking someone for directions, the group arrived at the location where they had set up their stall at the base.
Here, on both sides of the road, people lay out any kind of cloth, display what they want to sell, and let others look at it. If it's suitable, they can then discuss the price.
The entire street was lined with them, and it was very lively.
I've heard that this is a place for people to buy and sell goods, but the quality isn't guaranteed.
For better quality goods, just around the corner, you'll find shops; the quality there is more reliable than street vendors.
You have to rely on your own eyesight and judgment when you're at a street stall; there's nothing you can do if there's a problem. They might only be selling for one day—where are you going to find that person?
Shops are different; if there are any problems, they can come to your door to compensate you. This is why shops sell for more than street vendors—the quality is guaranteed.
Another option is the official one, where you can redeem items using points. It's not expensive; as long as you have points, you can redeem suitable items.
Official products are guaranteed to be of high quality, which is why they are in such high demand. If you're not quick enough, you might not be able to buy them at all.
That's about it. After getting a general idea, Li Xiao and the others started browsing the stalls.
A bed sheet was simply laid out and it became a stall, displaying all sorts of things for sale: toys, exquisite bowls and plates, collected calligraphy and paintings by famous artists, jewelry necklaces...
The women were still discussing how paintings and calligraphy, once rare and highly sought-after, were now treated like trash, ignored by everyone. Even precious sapphire necklaces and red agate bracelets went unnoticed.
