Li Xiao was unaware of the other party's thoughts; they simply wanted to gather some information.
Yu Yanbin and the others didn't really pay much attention to the fact that he had spread out a circle of cigarettes.
Even though I know that cigarettes and alcohol are precious now, if they can serve their purpose, I might as well give them up.
Even if you spend all your money, it will come back again; you can always find it again later.
It just goes to show that birds of a feather flock together. Even their thoughts are so similar.
They'll use these external possessions as long as they're useful. Since keeping them won't produce anything or conjure up messages out of thin air, it's better to make the most of them.
"Hey, brother, look, we don't understand either, and we've made you come all this way. Could you explain to us what's going on so we can understand?"
Seeing Yu Yanbin and the others offering cigarettes and helping to light them, even though he was secretly pleased, he couldn't help but say that they were very helpful.
"Hey, it's nothing, really, it's not a big deal." The man said, leaving the rest of his sentence unsaid, slowly puffing out a cigarette.
Yu Yanbin thought to himself, "It's not a big deal, but you guys are always so reluctant to say it out loud."
But she still smiled and waited for the man to continue.
After hesitating for a while, the man finally spoke, "Nobody dares to come here because something bad happened here before."
Yu Yanbin and Cheng Shaolin looked at each other, both seeing surprise in each other's eyes.
"What? Has something happened?"
The man nodded, looking troubled, and said, "The team that first came here to search for supplies had an accident here, and no one has come here since. They sent us to check it out after they saw the commotion here."
"Oh, so that's what happened. What exactly happened? Brother, could you tell me?"
The man noticed that everyone was looking at him, waiting for him to continue.
The man smirked, as if he were looking down on his subjects who were waiting for his charity, and arrogantly raised his chin.
Yu Yanbin and his companions were cursing inwardly. This guy really thought he was someone important. They just didn't want to ask anyone else. It wasn't like they needed to know the reason. What was wrong with this guy?
But things have come to this point, and stopping now wouldn't be worthwhile. After all, the smoke has already cleared, and all the smiles have been exchanged.
Li Xiao found the man's expressive face hilarious. Was this guy a trained actor, already putting on an act?
The man cleared his throat and continued, "You guys are still pretty lucky. See that over there?" As he spoke, he gestured with his chin toward the other side of the county town.
Everyone looked in the direction the man pointed.
So that's what Xiaoxiao meant by "amazing".
"Hmm, what's wrong? We haven't gone over there yet. What's there?"
The man laughed. "Didn't you say you were lucky? It's dangerous over there. Luckily, you came here first."
Yu Yan's eyes widened, and he hurriedly asked, "Is that so? Then we're really lucky. Big brother, what's going on over there? Is it dangerous?"
The man gave him an affirmative look. "Dangerous? Ha, you should say extremely dangerous."
The people behind the man all looked on in that direction with expressions of utter fear.
It seems they all mind that place is off-putting; even standing so far away, they all look like they don't dare to say anything.
Perhaps those two cigarettes had an effect; now, although the man looked unwell, he finally said what he had previously been unwilling to say.
"The team that first came here to search for supplies happened to be over there. You see, it's actually closer over there."
"That's true," Yu Yanbin nodded without hesitation. If Li Xiao hadn't said there was danger over there, they would have started there first anyway.
"Only three people survived in the end. If it weren't for one of them getting up to pee in the middle of the night, the whole team would have been wiped out."
At this point, the man took a deep breath, his gaze growing even darker as he looked in that direction.
Yu Yanbin and the others gasped in shock, never expecting things to turn out this way.
"From what you're saying, they spent the night here?" Yu Yanbin asked.
The man nodded. "That's right. Nobody expected something like this to happen that night. We didn't even know what it was, and we ended up running back to base in such a sorry state."
"You still don't know what it is?"
The man shook his head and sighed. "After what happened, the base took it very seriously. They sent people to investigate, but many people had mysteriously disappeared. After that, no one dared to come here anymore."
Yu Yanbin lowered his eyes. No wonder he couldn't see anyone; that's what was going on.
"Brother, why did the base send you here again?"
The man coughed, making a fist. "Well, we noticed some noise over here, so we..."
Seeing the man's embarrassed expression, which suggested he was unwilling to talk about it, Yu Yanbin and the others didn't expose him.
"Thank you so much, thank you for telling us all this." She said, shaking the man's hand in gratitude.
The man scratched his head. "Oh, it's nothing. We just clicked, didn't we, brother?"
"Yes, yes, look, it just so happens that it's Big Brother's team coming over, and they're explaining it to us in such detail. If it were another team, it might not be the same."
At this point, the man said with considerable satisfaction, "Of course, you see, if the ones in the base were like..."
At this point, the man stopped talking, realizing he had said too much and made a mistake, and quickly stopped.
The people behind him paused, wanting to step forward to stop him, but seeing that the man had stopped talking, they said nothing.
"Captain, everything is clear now, let's go."
The woman who was standing closest to the man spoke up, reminding him that it was time to leave.
The man realized he had talked too much and was thinking of leaving. Just then, someone in the line handed him a ladder, which he used to descend the steps.
Knowing he wouldn't get anything more out of the man, Yu Yanbin stopped talking. Seeing that the man seemed to be leaving, he didn't stop him.
"Oh, brother, thank you."
The man quickly waved his hand and said, "Not at all, it's alright, it's alright."
Yu Yanbin smiled as he watched the group leave. His earlier smile vanished quickly, as if nothing had happened.
"Are these people here to see who made such a commotion?"
Yu Yanbin glanced at Shao Jie, "Otherwise what? Are you expecting me to bring you food again?"
Shao Jie chuckled twice, then touched his nose and shut up.
"Why doesn't this base nip the danger in the bud, allowing them to continue to grow and thrive?" Meng Yang was very puzzled.
Everyone had the same thought: since we know there's a problem, why don't we solve it?
Yu Yanbin chuckled, "Maybe he just doesn't want to."
Upon hearing this, Shao Jie turned his head and said, "Really? You don't want to? What if it gets harder and harder to deal with?"
At this moment, Cheng Shaolin said, "Maybe they don't care at all."
Shao Jie was dumbfounded.
Is this even possible? What kind of base is this?
