Sun Cheng sometimes wondered if things would have turned out differently if he had agreed to Captain Yu Yanbin's suggestion back then.
However, he didn't think about it any further; there was no need. Having made the decision, he shouldn't dwell on the other possibility.
If you're afraid of regretting it, don't do it. If you do it, don't regret it and waste your time.
They should be doing well now.
They are all good people, and he didn't want to be a burden to them. They considered him a friend, and that was enough; he should be content.
Even friendships need boundaries; you can't cross them or be completely unrestrained. Doing so will only erode any precious friendship you have left.
That's good. I still have the ability and can still find a solution. And I have a helper by my side, right? That's enough.
They still had food; having followed Yu Yanbin's team for so long, they had learned how to store things. If they were careful with their food, it could last them for a while longer.
I still have the raincoat I prepared beforehand. If the rain lightens up, I can go out and find some food. I should be able to survive.
It's safe here; no one will come to this little house full of junk and trash.
This was something Sun Cheng found while searching for supplies. He never imagined it would become their refuge.
Having a safe shelter is more important than anything else. No need to worry about food being stolen. All you have to do is deal with the ugly zombies.
Everyone has killed zombies; it takes less effort than dealing with humans.
Between the two, killing zombies is much simpler.
Li Xiao was unaware of Sun Cheng's situation; they were more focused on their own.
"Let one person go collect the supplies; it's pointless for too many to do so."
"I'll go."
Shao Jie looked at Xiao Peng, who was trying to take the place from him, and nudged him.
"Why are you trying to take it from me? I can go quickly by myself."
"What's the use of being fast? You don't need to be that fast to collect your stuff."
Seeing the two arguing endlessly, Yu Yanbin interrupted, "Alright, stop arguing."
The two fell silent instantly, their eyes locked in a fierce battle, neither willing to give in.
"Going too often won't do any good; people will just think we have too much rain gear and nowhere to use it. How about this, the two of you go together."
Shao Jie and Xiao Peng both looked at Yu Yanbin with puzzlement.
"It's safer for the two of you to go. If you carry so much stuff at once, people might covet it."
"Okay, sure."
Shao Jie carefully put away his personal identification card, which he had obtained upon entering the base, and placed it in his pocket.
This is everyone's identification document; you can't lose it. Replacing it is a hassle.
Now, supplies are distributed by card; once the cards are used up, the supplies will go to someone else.
Li Xiao brought out long raincoats for the two of them, as well as a large umbrella, rain boots, and waterproof trousers for each of them, piling them up on the table.
Shao Jie and Xiao Peng grabbed their pants and raincoats and put them on; these were life-saving items, so they couldn't be careless.
"Xiaoxiao is so thoughtful, she's covered everything perfectly." Shao Jie touched his thick raincoat, extremely excited.
Li Xiao glanced at him sideways. "Didn't you want to sell it? You can sell what you're wearing. Go out naked."
Shao Jie's expression changed immediately. "That, that was just a joke. Don't be angry, Xiaoxiao. I was just kidding, I'll slap myself. I'm a smart aleck, I promise I won't say it again." As he spoke, he slapped himself in the face.
Li Xiao said indifferently, "There will be a next time?"
Shao Jie cried out in alarm, "No, absolutely not! There will be a next time! If there is a next time, you can kill me!"
Li Xiao: "Hmph."
Shao Jie wiped the cold sweat from his face and let out a soft sigh.
He turned around and saw that everyone was sitting, looking at him with expressions that seemed to want to laugh but didn't.
His face immediately darkened...
Is this something we can't get over? Ugh, that sharp tongue of yours.
Without saying anything, Shao Jie tucked his tail between his legs and followed Xiao Peng out the door.
Shao Jie couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. "This is so difficult."
Xiao Peng glanced at him sideways, "Let's see if you'll still talk nonsense."
Shao Jie was still shaken. "How could I dare to do that again?" he said, making a zipping motion with his mouth to show his determination.
"That would be best. We're in a new place now, and we haven't figured out anything yet, so it's better to be careful." Xiao Peng said as he walked downstairs, ignoring Shao Jie who was following him.
Don't let Xiao Peng's tall and burly appearance fool you; he's actually very meticulous. It's not that he doesn't understand things, he's just a simple and quiet person.
"Okay." Having learned his lesson this time, Shao Jie would never repeat the mistake, and obediently followed Xiao Peng downstairs silently.
It's almost lunchtime, and you can hear noises coming from the hallway every now and then.
You can still hear voices; they must be heading to the base canteen to collect supplies.
The two, carrying umbrellas and wearing raincoats that looked to be of high quality, stood out in the crowd.
I could hear people whispering around me and behind me, "That raincoat's nice." "Yeah, it looks like good quality." "It looks pretty good, so, shall we find a spot..."
The two men exchanged a glance, listening to the intermittent voices behind them and the ambiguous glances directed at them. They both understood the same message from each other's eyes: "Thank goodness the captain ordered us both to come; one of us might have been dragged away."
The two casually turned their gazes forward; the cafeteria was a bit of a distance from the information desk.
It took about 5 minutes to see the information office. The cafeteria was right next to the information office, at the bottom of the building.
The information office was converted from a supermarket; it's quite large, spanning two floors.
The cafeteria is on the first floor of the building next door; the office area is above it.
This area is mostly the base's office area, and the surrounding police force is very strong. No one dares to cause trouble here; doing so would be courting death.
