Shao Jie received his food for the day and started walking back, with Xiao Peng following behind him without saying a word.
Shao Jie just saw that the staff gave them nine mixed-grain steamed buns, each about the size of a man's fist, and a large glass jar. Inside was porridge, very thin porridge.
This should be enough for all nine of them, and it's packed in a jar.
Shao Jie remembered what the staff had just said: next time, bring your own containers with lids. They only gave them containers this time because it was their first time and they weren't prepared.
Some people in the crowd noticed the abundance of food and their eyes lit up with knowing glances. But when they saw the tall and imposing Xiao Peng following behind, their eyes involuntarily shrank back, and they quickly lowered their gazes.
Xiao Peng glanced around without a word, then followed Shao Jie away expressionlessly.
A thin man, about 170 cm tall, stood in the crowd with his head down and his eyes darting around. The big man's gaze had been terrifying. Although he didn't speak, the overwhelming, almost tangible pressure from that look kept him from acting rashly.
He hesitated. Seeing Shao Jie take so much food gave him a different idea. But before he could figure out what to do, Xiao Peng's gaze silenced him.
He could only cower in the crowd like a quail, hoping not to be seen by that man. He felt as if the man had seen and heard him, and he wanted to cry; he hadn't done anything wrong.
Xiao Peng was unaware that someone in the queue behind him was frightened by his mere glance. He had no idea; all he wanted now was to take the food back with Shao Jie, nothing else mattered to him.
There were still people heading towards the cafeteria. Shao Jie stuffed the food into his raincoat, held it in his arms, supported it with his left hand, and held the umbrella with his right hand, and quickly walked back.
Some people would glance at him, but he would look back at them without any emotion. When the person saw Shao Jie looking back at him fearlessly, they knew that he had something to rely on, so they stopped looking and walked away.
"Hmph." Shao Jie glanced around discreetly, gave a smirk, and then turned to walk back.
He was still being glanced at, but Shao Jie ignored them and went home without looking back, paying no attention to anyone.
And so, without any problems, they reached the bottom of the stairs. Shao Jie and Xiao Peng exchanged a glance, understanding each other perfectly, and began to climb the stairs.
They thought there might be trouble inside the building, since the stairwell is a good place for a sneak attack. They were wrong.
That's good, who wants to cause trouble for no reason? It's best if nothing happens.
They went upstairs briskly, and just as they turned the corner, there was a person standing at the top of the stairs.
Shao Jie immediately smiled; it was Cheng Shaolin. Seeing that they were alright, Cheng Shaolin turned and went back to his room.
Shao Jie quickened his pace, taking two steps at a time, and reached the door in no time. He pushed the door open, went inside, and finished his drink in one go.
"I'm back." She said, taking off her raincoat.
Xiao Peng followed behind and used his umbrella to shield him from the water, saying, "I took your clothes off outside, so I didn't see how wet you were."
Before Shao Jie could figure out what was going on, he heard Xiao Peng say something behind him, and upon thinking about it, it made sense.
I quickly unbuttoned the raincoat, revealing a large bag and a large jar inside.
Tian Tian quickly came up, grabbed the things, and went back. Only then did Shao Jie put away his umbrella and take off his raincoat.
The two carried their raincoats to the bathroom and hung them up. This rain was problematic; it shouldn't touch their skin, so they decided to keep it away.
The bag has been opened for you, and everyone has already seen the steamed buns and the porridge in the jar.
"This won't make you starve, but it won't fill you up either," Yu Yanbin said with a smile, looking at the package on the table.
"This is for the long term," Meng Yang said, picking up a steamed bun and examining it.
Cheng Shaolin smiled and said, "This base is alright; we're making long-term plans."
"Isn't that even better? It's in our best interest." Tian Tian had already taken a bowl and divided the thin porridge from the jar into individual bowls.
Yu Yanbin nodded, "Indeed." He then asked Shao Jie, "How is it? Has there been any trouble?"
Shao Jie admired Yu Yanbin greatly and quickly recounted his experiences along the way, "There was no trouble, but there were a lot of malicious glances. I think if it weren't for this big guy following me, something might have really happened."
As she spoke, she gestured with her chin towards Xiao Peng, who was sitting opposite her.
Yu Yanbin ignored his admiring gaze and simply said, "I think so too. From now on, whoever goes to collect food should not go alone."
"good."
"Um."
"Also, you women don't need to go. We men can go and pick them up," Yu Yanbin added.
Li Xiao, Tian Tian, Qiu Fengyu: "..."
"It's not safe outside right now, you'd better not go out." Even Cheng Shaolin said so, and they had no objections.
"If we don't want to go out, then we don't want to go out. I don't want to go out in this rain either." Li Xiao didn't seem to have any objections.
Cheng Shaolin rested his chin on his hand, his arm propped on his thigh, and looked at Li Xiao with eyes that seemed to be drowning her. Li Xiao was overwhelmed by this gaze; it happened every day, every hour, and she felt she couldn't take it anymore.
Li Xiao felt a little uncomfortable and regretted agreeing to date this guy and become his girlfriend.
Cheng Shaolin would never give her that chance. He wished he could see Tutu all the time and be with her. How could he let the little girl he had finally gotten slip away? That was absolutely impossible.
Seeing that Li Xiao seemed a little distracted, he chuckled inwardly. This little girl was just so shy. Well, he had to pamper his girlfriend. He'd just go along with it.
Thinking of this, Cheng Shaolin turned to Shao Jie and asked, "When you came back, did you notice anyone unusual in this building?"
Yu Yanbin also wanted to ask, and raised his chin, waiting for Shao Jie's answer.
"No, it's very quiet in the building, I haven't seen a single person. I find it a bit strange."
Cheng Shaolin scoffed, "They're probably still observing. If they have a tail, it'll eventually show."
"It's best to go out in pairs from now on. People don't know our strength yet, and there are always those who don't know what's good for them."
Shao Jie and Xiao Peng nodded. "Understood."
Yu Yanbin: "Yes, everyone be careful, things might get chaotic later."
Everyone is aware of this situation and has no objections.
The food was pretty good. Although there was only one steamed bun, the portion was generous and quite filling. The porridge was rather thin, with not much rice in it, but it went well with the steamed bun.
"It's alright, I'm enjoying it. How about you guys?" Meng Yang wasn't picky about food anymore. As long as it was edible and could fill his stomach, that was fine. Taste wasn't that important.
"Sure, I think it's good too. At least it'll keep you full." Xiao Peng agreed with the large steamed bun. It doesn't have to taste good, as long as it fills you up.
"Hmm, that's good. This base is decent; at least it's not a rip-off."
A steamed bun and a bowl of porridge would only fill a person with superpowers to about half full. But for an ordinary person, it would be enough to make them about 80% full.
That's great.
