Chapter 247 Enjoy a Good Meal

Sometimes Li Xiao would wonder if things would be different if she were alone.

Indeed, a person can do whatever they want without having to think about anything else.

However, being an individual also has its drawbacks.

In the apocalypse, you won't always encounter one person; you might meet several people or even a team.

When your strength is insufficient to contend with it, you will be like a fish on the chopping block. At that point, you will realize that being alone isn't always a good thing.

Li Xiao didn't think that much at first. She just thought that Uncle Cheng and the others cared about her so much, and even in the apocalypse, they still didn't forget to look for her.

It would be a bit unreasonable to completely ignore it.

But they were originally a group, and it would seem a bit excessive to separate them.

I haven't had a bad experience with them since I started dating them. Apart from the first few troublesome ones, we've generally gotten along well.

After so much time getting to know them, she felt these people were reliable. If she discovered anyone had ulterior motives, then she could only say she hadn't been discerning enough.

Thinking of this, Li Xiao felt relieved.

There are all sorts of superpowers these days, so it's not unreasonable to make one up for yourself.

Who says you can't be like that? Nobody's ever said otherwise.

When the time comes, I'll be in charge. As long as I don't reveal the most important things or show my hand, everything should be fine.

If things really turn out badly, then I won't care what I say at that point.

I'm not a saint; if things go against me, I'll definitely think about my own life.

Thinking about all this, Li Xiao had already thrown a lot of things outside.

No one's coming here, so I can do more without worry.

The food I stocked up on is almost gone, so I need to replenish it as soon as I get out.

Pots and pans, rice, flour, green vegetables, potatoes, taro, fish, meat, eggs, scallions, ginger, garlic, and various seasonings were all laid out on the table.

It's not surprising that there are many things; I've seen them all before.

What's most astonishing is that the fish was still alive and kicking.

Alive!

Who's ever seen a live fish these days?!

Everyone stared at the fish, which was still jumping around, speechless.

"Xiao, Xiaoxiao?" She was stammering, clearly quite frightened.

"Get to work faster, stop spacing out." Seeing that no one was moving, Li Xiao had no choice but to speak.

"No. What happened?" Shao Jie's hand was still trembling as he pointed at the fish, he just couldn't stop.

"What's wrong? Can I have a live fish?" Li Xiao asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, yes. But how come there are any alive?" He continued to stammer.

Li Xiao tried to remain calm and said, word by word, "It was alive to begin with, so what? Is that not allowed?"

Everyone was looking at her, their expressions varied.

Cheng Shaolin's mind was in turmoil. This was no small matter; if handled poorly, it could lead to serious trouble.

Thinking of something, he lowered his voice and said in a low voice, "Shao Jie, go and see if there are any irrelevant people around."

Everyone was stunned at first, but then they immediately understood and rushed to the door or the window.

I was incredibly nervous, but my hands and feet moved quickly.

Cheng Shaolin strode over to Li Xiao, took her hand, and asked, "Xiao Xiao, you—" He seemed unsure how to answer, his eyes fixed on Li Xiao's, and after a long pause, he finally spoke, "You... can you tell me about this?"

Li Xiao noticed his cautiousness; he wanted to know but was afraid of being too abrupt.

A tense look was conveyed to her through her deep eyes.

Li Xiao smiled and said, "Okay, let's cook first, and talk while we eat, or we can talk after we finish eating, okay?"

"good."

Everyone wanted to know the answer, but no one pursued it.

Xiao Peng took the knife and quickly cleaned the fish.

No one spoke while I was cooking today; it was very quiet.

The dishes were served and laid out on the table, with a bowl of rice in front of each person, ready to begin.

Today, before Yu Yanbin could even speak, everyone was looking at Li Xiao.

Li Xiao didn't hesitate and said with a smile, "Let's eat, everything while it's hot."

Only then did everyone start shoveling rice into their mouths and taking their first bite of food.

The fish was quite big, weighing about 10 pounds. I cut it into small pieces, made braised fish chunks, and filled a large bowl.

With its bright color and enticing aroma, this fresh fish has a completely different taste from frozen fish.

No one spoke; everyone kept their heads down and ate.

This meal smells so good, it would be a fool not to take the initiative.

Actually, after a meal, everyone wasn't as surprised as before. Instead, they had calmed down.

Li Xiao was still waiting to be asked, but later no one seemed to have much desire to ask anymore.

"Why aren't you all asking anymore?" Li Xiao asked curiously.

"Ask what? Just say what you want to say. Besides, as long as we have food, who cares what it is?" Shao Jie was the most honest of all, but it was this last sentence that made the clearest sense of what he meant.

"Yes, as long as there's food, why worry about so much?" Zheng Yongnian understood these things better; only he truly understood how rare those foods were.

Although the base provides food every day, you need points to redeem it. Without points, you can't eat anything.

For a survivor like him with limited abilities, just getting enough to eat was a tremendous effort.

I didn't see that many people at the base were no longer human, yet they were still constantly running around trying to make ends meet.

He was lucky; his teammates were all friendly and never ostracized him.

In his view, this was extremely lucky.
